As an April fools joke Scott should release a remake of five nights at Freddy’s one called nonsupernatural edition and the animatronics do literally nothing the entire game

the idea that Mike Afton is all of the night guards is actually quite intriguing, as it offers a convincing argument as to why the animatronics would go after him; as he says in sister location, he looks like his father.
It is, we basically follow Micheal on his "journey" to find his dad and kill him. The animatronics only wanted to attack the man that had caused this to them, William. Mike being his son must have alot of similarities to dad so they would confuse him with William. The toy animatronics attacking were due to the fact that Henry had made them to detect when william would be in the building (again confusing Michael with William). The only game we don't play as Michael is fnaf 4 where we play as Michael's brother, the victim of the bite of 87
@@traydeslavic1421 but wasn't the crying child the victim of the bite of 83? Mike wouldn't have a reason to scare his brother if he already knew about his dad's killings (if we were to go with your theory).
From what I remember, he is the night guard for the 1st, 5th and Pizza Sim. The 1st is most telling since he looks like his dad and the animatronics are out for revenge, though it doesn't explain why the animatronics want to kill the night guards in fnaf 2. The 4th is obvious since he was told to go there by his father, and in pizza sim when his soul is set free along with everyone else
It's weird that 8 year old me was obsessed with a story about man who murdered children and then was murdered by the children's vengeful spirits in a haunted chucky cheeses.
People don't give kids enough credit for what they can handle. Heck lion king is a movie about a ruthless dictator killing his brother in front of his son. And any parent would let their 5 year old watch it
My son loved this game. I honestly never watched him play because I hate jump scares but I’m watching for my son since he passed last year. Thank you for not scaring a old woman 😂
I hope you have a beautiful day, I'm certain if he was still here today he would thank you for taking a look at his interests. I can promise there are a few people that would love a mother like you.
I always found the creepiest thing in the first game was Bonnie, in the room with the endoskeleton, just staring right at the camera. Up until that point, it's ambiguous if there truly is something evil about the animatronics, or if Phone Guy's theory that they'll stuff you into a suit because they think you're an endoskeleton is right. Then Bonnie stands in a room, right beside an endoskeleton, completely ignores it, and just stares directly at you instead: that's when you know they truly DO want to hurt you.
I have not played any of the FNAF games in years, let alone FNAF 1 and to this day that particular camera screen of eyeless Bonnie staring at the camera and the night 5 phone call are still recurring nightmares for me to this day. Nothing has ever stood out to me in a horror game quite the same way.
That and the fact that the endoskeleton itself is also staring at you along with Bonnie. Legit the most unnerving thing I’ve seen in a horror game to date.
I like the fact that the menu for fnaf 4 looks like a house overlooked by bushes until you look a bit closer and realize that’s not leaves, that’s a jaw.
Love that Scott's reaction to the lumber game criticisms was spite and just "oh haha you thought THAT was scary. just wait" What a creative way to listen to criticism
Even if the toy animatronics and the funtime animatronics looking similar isnt intentional, i like the narrative difference between them. Henry made the toys with a criminal database in their minds to indentify creeps and get rid of them to protect the kids, and the fun times were made to lure and trap those same kids by William. I love it
I think it was due to COVID and the quarantine giving everybody nothing else to do but stay on the internet 24/7. I feel like FNAF is a comfort topic of a lot of people because it brings back childhood nostalgia while also still being really entertaining at the same time
Huh, on retrospect Golden Freddy saying the whole "It's me" thing makes a lot of sense in the first game now. if you're playing as Michael Afton, it's kinda fitting that you'd see Fredbear as a hallucination reminding you of his brother, or maybe his brother literally haunting you as a spirit.
The entire quote is amazing, with him not directly mentioning William but instead saying "one of you", yet also ending it with saying "old friend." Like fuck that's insanely good for the funny chuck e cheese series
It's like Bradford in XCOM, you'd expect him to be a generic army command guy, but he's got his own fully voiced and written opinions and thoughts. He also hates ADVENT Burger.
i love hearing people talk about things i enjoy even if i already know a lot about the subject, i’ve been into fnaf since i was 10 and i still listen through explanation videos like this:]
same here! i used to be a walking encyclopedia of fnaf theories, lore, and headcanons, and although i haven't interacted with anything fnaf in a very long time, it was very nice to see this door into the past in my recommendations :D
Huh, interesting, it's the opposite for me tbh. I find it fascinating listening to people talk about things they enjoy, especially if I barely know anything about that. Which is why I'm here.
I mean if a giant murder robot walked up to you, and you knew it was going to kill you soon and there was no way to prevent it what would you think? For me it would be one of the following. Well nuts, ah shit, huh, or oh no.
"I am still here." No shit, Mr I Always Come Back, the guy who burned to death twice, was stuck in hell, got his brain copied into a VR game, and is now trying to use mind control to gain new followers.
I still cannot believe that FNAF 1 was released almost *7 YEARS* ago, it feels like yesterday when I was 12 and all I did after school was watching FNAF videos and theories.
Scott is honestly such a talented artist/designer when it comes to 3D models and animations imo. You can tell throughout the series that the fanbase providing him with so much support let him flex his creative muscles and play around with the ideas that he wanted. My favorite designs for the animatronics themselves came from FNAF 2 and Sister Location- I loved how he was able to make the Toys, Withered, and Funtime animatronics look like they all have different weights to them. For instance, the Funtime animatronics look extremely heavy and made of actual metals instead of plastic or velvet.
I. Love. Your. Subtitler. Not only did they put in all your words, not ONLY just the bigger sound effects, BUT ALSO THE SONGS USED and the minor sound effects. The only one missing is that really unsettling noise from FNAF2 that sounds like laughing when you're looking through Freddy's eyes. My best guess for why there are children and night guards with the same name is Mike, Fritz, and Jeremy *are all Michael Afton* and he named himself after his father's victims when posing as someone else.
Honestly your restrospective series, is one of the best nostalgia trip ever, so I hope you'll continue with other liscences even outside of Fnaf. (Like you did with Little Nightmares.)
I genuinely forgot there was a time where the names "Afton" and "Henry" held no weight outside of the books, really weird seeing this since at a certain point I was the kinda person to hear any theory and immediately accept it as fact so MatPat spent years frying my brain with all his theory retcons lmao
I work at an indoor playground/restaurant. And closing up in the winter months when it's dark early is a nightmare because of this game. I once almost passed out scared when someone forgot to turn off the motion-detecting orangutan animatronic and it starts waving a banana in my face and making "oomph" noises.
I put on Jerma compilations when I sleep, and this auto played. I woke up at around 2:12:00, so I thought I was watching a Jerma clip of him reciting FNAF lore fluently
I feel the Scott always delivered games early on purpose. He makes the dates longer than he needs. So all problems can be solved and be doesn't get backlash from it being late. It's also kinda phycological. People being happier when something is done sooner or on time.
regarding the "guard names" it's highly likely we play as michael afton in a lot of games he named himself after the dead kids cause when a guy got fired for "tampering + odor" he's likely to be blacklisted so he'd need a new name
Jeremy most likely isn't Michael, as he gets transferred to the day shift and probably ends up as the victim of the Bite of '87. Fritz Smith meanwhile, is Michael, as he was the one who ends up getting fired.
One of my favorite eras of the FNAF fandom was actually the “Mangles Gender” debate. I remember Scott was asked about it and his answer was basically just “yeah, Mangle sure does have gender”. People took it so seriously it was hilarious.
When I finished this, I was like 'that was a really cool hour and a half long video!'. Then I looked at the time and realized it had been nearly four hours. Good job on making something so engaging you can literally lose track of time while watching!
i was literally thinking of either a shortened, revamped compilation of the entire series into one, or just a compilation of the videos. my man really delivered without me having to say a thing
the idea that william murdered henry’s daughter and henry tried so hard to convince himself she a) just disappeared and wasn’t murdered b) was murdered by someone other than william and c) william just needed to get it out of his system and he’d be better after that, is something that’s so fucking terrifying because of how actually plausible it it, despite how disgusted we should be with henry for turning a blind eye in pursuit of his friendship and a dream of success, even after he lost his daughter. there are plenty of men who stay friends with predators, abusers, people who hurt their own and other’s families, because they don’t want to lose the opportunity that their relationship to this well-connected, successful, *completely* horrific person might bring them. no wonder henry lost himself to guilt like that. he probably deserves it.
I think my favorite theory in the past was that Springtrap moves the way he does in fnaf 3 was that hes moving like a measured killer, hes not jumping at you and screaming, hes effectively stalking you and waiting for the right moment
@@Styxintheriver Bruh, who the fuck came up with _that_ one? To steal a quote, "that represents a level of reading comprehension that I think is in a negative score". That feels parallel to the time I workshopped an excerpt of a piece in class and I could tell that one person had skimmed it at best, if they even read it at all, bc they talked about how they thought the 2 characters in question "could be great friends". The interaction on the page was the villain taunting the protag about how she'd killed his father and her showing off some of his old possessions that she'd kept as trophies to rub it in further. It made me have a brief existential crisis about whether or not I'd completely failed in writing the scene, until I both bounced it off more ppl from the writing club and read the other workshop responses and found that that person's misinterpretation was a fluke/no one else had an issue with it
I think Scott's head being a jar and being the final boss of Freddy in Space is a reference to Metroid, as Mother Brain looks like a brain in a jar and one of Scott's earliest games was a Metroid fangame.
I never really realized how many games was released over only a few years, with most of them released even earlier than planned. That's really impressive, especially looking at the quality of the games
I guess it helped having, like, 7 kids to provide for. That's sure to give you motivation to quickly get your game done for release. But he really loved the lore of his own game too so I'm sure it was mostly passion
A small, little thing but I love how you use he/she for Mangle, she’s one of my favorite characters and it made me so happy to hear how you referred to him
I am SO GLAD someone else finally appreciates how fucked up and creepy withered Chica looks. That impossibly large, unhinged jaw, the huge eye sockets giving her a permanent, almost scream-like look, making her look like a horrifying cornered creature, her massive stance, withered Chica is perfect.
People always said withered bonnie was the scariest. But withered chica ALWAYS and to this day scares me due to how dead she is. Her eyelids gone, the broken jaw making her looking like she's screaming. She's got everything to look terrifying. While bonnie just looks badass. And then there's the fact she's posessed by the 2nd angriest spirit susie. Who had her dead dog used to manipulate her into getting the afton treatment. I akways thought she kills you by biting you but... It seems that she bashes your face with hers. And her voice being rightfully pissed, and when she speaks..i always imagine her head is CONSTANTLY shaking left and right. She hates being like this. Whereas bonnie just...drowns his depression with face puns.
I love how in the span of 8 years we went from "the ghosts of the children possesed the robots cause they where stuffed inside them" to "william was experimenting to reach inmortality so he killed the kids to harvest their remnant and then just hide the bodies but elizabeth had other plans to try and stop william so she made their souls posses the robots till they managed to get tevenge but they werent the only souls traped because of williams remnant experiments so Clizabeth, Crying Child and Cassidy stayed behind after stuffing william inside the spring bonnie suit to try and stop him until the presumed dead co owner of the pizzeria and williams son corpse reunited everyone and set them on fire"
fnaf lore at this point remembers me a lot to cod zombies lore: it started as a simple minigame but got insanely convoluted and now there's this whole fantasy alternate universe type deal
@@Sinstarclair I had been a FNAF fan since Markiplier first uploaded his first FNAF video in 2014, and I haven’t paid attention to the lore since the fourth game. Too convoluted for my tastes lol.
I think a lot of people don't realize that there's no way that Scott had the story as planned out and as detailed as it is, And likely took inspiration from people's theories. Like I feel like at least at some point he would put game theory on in the background while writing up plot details
Oh yeah I never even thought of that lol, some reddit aut-artists just write these cool insanely complex novels that tie everything together that's a great point
Cuz he doesn't have a full story. He's making it up as he goes and he can't even remember what he was writting, that's why it's still in pieces with lots of retcons

I'd say that fnaf 4 is the scariest game, the fact that you're alone and the dread leading up to a jumpscare. The jumpscare honestly scared the shit out of me. The monstrous yell followed by what I assume is the child screaming in fear is horrifying. Playing this game was an actual nightmare. Out of all the nightmare animatronics, I'd say that nightmare chica is the scariest, something about her open jaw, and wide mouth, along with her close eyes. She's actually terrifying. Lastly, seeing the animatronics massive size compared to your small body as a child was so legitimately scary, even more on night terrors from help wanted, (Yes I have a VR).
I never even made it past night 2 fnaf 4 scared me so bad. Leaning out the door looking into the pitch black hallway is absolutely terrifying to me and it only took a handful of jumpscares for me to quit. I don't know what sagan is talking about with the nightmare animatronics not being scary, I think they're horrific. They may look a little silly out of context but when they're stalking the unlit rooms of some innocent child's house they really do look like nightmares. I decided to try the game again recently after my little brother begged me to play it for him and started physically shaking when I saw the loading screen so I guessed that was a sign to not bother for now.
@@mmmcloud2771 honestly , after playing the first 3 , some people , myself included just didn't feel afraid anymore. The jumpscares didn't do much for me except plushtrap and fredbear that gave me a spook at times but i just don't have it in me anymore , however i enjoyed Security Breach alot because i love chase related horror like Outlast did , i still clench whenever i get chased by Chris Walker to this day. it's just that we got used to us being helpless and cant even move anymore , the reason SB was fun for me was the story and character we get for Freddy , and most importantly the change of pace. despite chase horror being common for a long time now , it still makes the series feel fresh and i hope we can get maybe 1 more game with that type of gameplay if possible.
I remember when I got my first IPod and the first thing I watched on UA-cam was marks and Dawkos videos on fnaf, I had nightmares and couldn’t sleep for a month 😂. But I finally got over it and wasn’t scared anymore…….until fnaf 4. Fuck fnaf 4 I hate it was a passion, I still can’t bring myself to play that damn shithole of a game. The fact that they make you have the volume super loud is actually horrible 😭
I think that the animatronics are too over the top, however when it comes to the vibe, it wins. Being a child vulnerable and alone in your own house is terrifying.
To any of you who are potentially unaware, in the second game, the tune for winding up the music box is called 'Grandfather clock'. A grim and morbid song about a grandfather's clock that stopped ticking when he passed on. In my opinion a great tie in for what the puppet does and how when the tune ends, it game ends you.
You mean the music that's playing constantly in the prize corner? Because if so, that makes it even creepier that I had an old cuckoo clock toy as a really young child that played that exact same tune. I'm p sure it was from my mom's childhood, so it was already a good amount of decades old by the time I had it in the early-mid 2000s
I think one of the funniest things is that, several years after MatPat's first video on FNaF turned out to be correct, Ultimate Custom Night is a game where the killer is tormented by all of the people he killed or tormented that he cant wake up from.
I kinda feel like that real murder thing was actually partly inspiration for the game. Not that it's what it was about, but like, that it was at least in some way related to it.
I honestly love the way he talks. He doesn’t stutter and his voice isn’t annoying like a lot of other peoples videos. And he has such a wide vocabulary. It just adds to the video and everything. /// guys I have a speech impediment myself. I'm not making stuttering seem bad and stuff. Ik my choice of wording wasn't very good.
don't worry, the butterfly doesn't look back on the catterpillar with any shame, so why should you? or you could just remember that people have a crush on the red dude from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared. either works.

I was a bit old to be on the hype train when these games came out, but something about them is immensely fascinating to me. I’ve only ever played FNAF World because because I can’t handle scary games, but I’ve watched every single one of these retrospectives.
It’s honestly so weird to know that Scott cawthan is now retired, he’s been making so many fnaf games and has been such a huge part of my childhood and to know he’s moving on to take care of his family is so surreal. I’m honestly happy for him and that he got all his success, it was well deserved too!!
Unfortunately tho, the retirement is kind of ugly cause he was canceled and doxxed in Twitter. At least that's what I've read in the past hour. It's news to me too. And you know why? Cause he apparently donated to a charity for some Republican or smth like that. Pretty crazy I know.
@@IngenieroBasado what happened to ‘canceling’ people in silence by not financially supporting them instead of blatantly harassing them especially if their loved ones or people associated with them have NOTHING to do with it. That’s part of the reason I stopped using Twitter. I’m not saying what he did was right, but still people have their opinions and don’t deserve to be treated like that. And last time I checked, it was mainly LGBTQ+ fans upset about this. I find it hypocritical that they’re supposed to represent love and acceptance, but I find the majority (not all) pulling s*** like this whenever somebody does something they don’t like.
I'm only an hour in but i just have to say that your storytelling abilities are amazing, the transitions are great. I have not looked at the lore whatsoever but you make it so easy to understand. I love the gameplay in the background that you put as a cherry ontop.
The fact that my friends and I literally got to experience all of this as it happened is amazing. I remember in middle school, me and one of my friends (Z) were really hyped about the first FNAF, and then he told me they were releasing a second game and I was like "no way" and lo-and-behold, a second one was released.
dude i also did experience this and it was amazing, remember when everyone thought the phone guy was afton? even random encounters made a musical where near the end it pictures that, even though being a bit of a mis-information
It's amazing that Sagan was able to balance saying "he" and "she" every other time when talking about Mangle consistently. I wonder how many takes he took... Edit: Idk how this turned into a whole fight about LGBTQ. It was literally just a note on the script…

Ah yes, the dark times when some of us forgot that these animatronics were haunted by c h i l d r e n- -personally I was more of a bonnica and fangle shipper back then myself-
The second game was definitely the best, I agree. The audio combined with the openness of the office made you really feel powerless and exactly like a terrified security guard. That was made even more stressful with the number of characters you had to worry about. The additions to the lore were the icing on the cake
I still think that the 1st one is the scariest and most unique when you think about it right when it came out. It had the right amount of jumpscares and mystery lore with golden freddy and dead kids. It also holds that nostalgia feeling to me and thats why i love it so much. Fnaf 2 is amazing as well, but idk fnaf one was able to scare the hell outta me and keep me on the edge of my seat, where fnaf 2 to me at least gets a little less scary. But still awesome and amazing and are both on a whole new level of fnaf games then the others.
@@yesitsryan_1579 yes I totally agree. Fnaf 1 is absolutely TERRIFYING. Think about it. A small room with 2 lights and doors. Seeing bonnie and chica just staring at you from your door. Just imagine that.
Nah, fnaf 2 was more of a strategy game. It was much busier and the player would be too alert to be scared. FNAF 1 is the best of the series _by a thousand country miles._ The atmosphere that was captured in fnaf 1 was never captured again in the series. fnaf4 came close but still missed. Also fnaf2 is hard to take seriously because the main ambient loop has become a literal meme, but in retrospect, it's a good horror strategy game whereas the first one was just pure horror.
I also found the art style and atmosphere to be on point. Gameplay and horror wise it's weak compared to the first game, but it just nails its aesthetic and mood so well. Its minigames also say a lot while keeping a lot of mystery.
@@foredee8496 Uh, no, what trash logic. They'd get scared because they are too busy, they'd completely forget about getting scared, which would then make them get scared since they aren't expecting it.
I'd like to just shoot in a comment that most people won't see, mostly for myself. FNAF world showed how much animation experience Scott had gotten to where he actually *could* create cutesy animated characters that didn't exclusively set off all warnings of uncanny valley (on the assumption he was still making said animations, which iirc he hadn't really hired many more people so). Simple animation loops in combat that fit surprisingly well with the chaos and shaking of the screen. Not bad, if he was getting help or had other animators on it, then massive props to them too!
this is very nostalgic, my best friend in middle school/first girlfriend was really into fnaf and i loved hearing her talk about it. i stopped keeping up after the 4th game so finding out there’s even more is ceazy
Personally I think I like FNAF 3 the most and now I realized why and that's because of two things one is the main game because it's like being in a horror movie where the player needs to keep the killer away from them by distracting them and not having any weapons to defend yourself, the second is the "Bonnie's lullaby" music that plays with the shadow Bonnie minigame which is both creepy and interesting reminding the player of good times but also the creepy nature of the animatronics souls being dead kids who also listened to lullabies similar to that
As an April fools joke Scott should release a remake of five nights at Freddy’s one called nonsupernatural edition and the animatronics do literally nothing the entire game

I'm honestly so sick of this phrase. The fan theories got downright rediculous.
That’s such a clever detail!

It is really terrifying but the T pose meme thing ruins it for me

Honestly think that 2 or 1 is the peak, in terms of horror. The lack of doors in 2 is fucking terrifying
And then there’s a grandfather clock in FNAF 4

Five Nights at the Crusty Crabs restaurant in the ocean Bikini Bottom is basically the same thing you'll never ever trust Square Pants ever again.
