I agree whole-heartedly about the radio. I absolutely love mine! I'm so glad I was able to 'slip in under the wire' and get one right before he closed up shop. I also have the same one, with the Z-match tuner, and the battery. Complete 'Shack in a box'.

I think this radio has the most pleasant cw sound of any modern radio I’ve heard. It sounds warm like my Collins radios and not fatiguing to the ear. It’s a shame he doesn’t make them anymore.
    Thanks again Thomas!

I prefer to log on paper exclusively while in the field and transcribe online later. I haven’t really gotten the hang of operating two “devices” at once ;)

I used to, but I don't think I've logged to both paper and a device in many months now. Just so much more pleasant to stick with paper in the field.

It's crazy how invisible the blue line is. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just surprised. Thanks for your hard work and time you put into these posts. Have a blessed week 73

I have operated from that exact same picnic table. I wasn't able to get my antenna as high as you though. Good job

After a terrible attempted activation with no CW getting out, only 8 FT8 QSOs on 20 and 40 combined, and getting sunburnt, its pleasant to see a successful activation! 72s, M7TAW

Man...we've all been there before and lately I've no clue if an activation will go south or not.

I appreciate your videos. Thanks for continuing to create them and sharing the Amateur Radio portion of your life. I’m getting back into the hobby after learning code in the eighties. Hope to work you someday.

Thanks for the P2P hunting 43:02. It's a pleasure to get you in the log! I enjoyed the video, although the humidity came through the screen. --n1bs

I finally discovered the secret to listening to your QSO and picking up CW. Listen at 3/4 speed lol

I’ve lived in Raleigh for more than 40-years and been and currently a member of RARS radio club (I think you recently demoed a ISS contact attempt at nearby Crabtree Lake park). I’ve been to that park many times. Yeah the park is huge and it offers completely different sites and experiences depending on which entrance is accessed.
Another great video and content from you, awesome and thanks!

I used to live in Raleigh and went to that park a lot. It’s beautiful. Didn’t have my license yet, but was an avid SWL at the time.

Thomas, if you had to rate your two most enjoyable CW field radios that are still in production, what would you say?

    • @ThomasK4SWL
      @ThomasK4SWL  27 днів тому

I hate to say this, but there are simply too many factors to consider. I look at my CW radios and think, "I love all of my children." I do love all of the Pennteks, the KX1, KH1, MTR-3B, CFT1, R4020, and many more. :)

Thomas: Are you using the DJI Mic2 with the DJI Osmo 4 camera via a Bluetooth connection? Is the connection from the mic to the camera stable? I note sometimes you are 50' away from the camera when deploying your antenna and the audio is great. Are you recording to a DJI receiver or directly to the camera when you produce your video? if there is a better way to contact you to get this feedback, pls let me know your preference. I think I am going to get a DJI camera as my remote microphone options with my Go Pros make them non waterproof and I need them waterproof for the work on my channel. Bob An example why I need waterproof capability: ua-cam.com/video/RvuWyb6EQds/v-deo.html

I do plug the wireless mics directly into the OSMO 4 via the USB-C port. It works very well. In your case, though? Connecting the mic controller directly to the OSMO 4 means that you're doing away with the waterproofing. You have to remove the USB weathertight cover.

@@ThomasK4SWL thanks for your time. You must not have the Mic2s? Because now with the Mic2 and the Osmo Camera 4 firmware update you can Bluetooth the remote mic directly to the camera… keeping the camera waterproof. No usb cables needed. That is the application I plan on using for my channel needs. It may help you on a rainy day also…. Thanks again. Bob
