Ido Portal Locomotion Tutorial: How to Low Bridge Rotation

  • A low bridge rotation is something like a rotating matrix move where you do the limbo but also spin off the ground. I saw it first from Ido Portal and then when I was doing Capoeira in Okinawa.
    I remember trying to just bend backwards would make me burst into sweat as my back didn't want to extend.
    Over the last year I've been practising this movement, and I picked up some tips from the learning process that I would like to share, so you too can also experience the limbo matrix.
    Top practice tips
    #1 it takes time to do this stuff so work at an easy progression consistently instead of trying to break yourself. It's taken me over a year to finally start getting comfortable with it.
    #2 spend time "in the hole" - that place where your weakest and develop strength there
    #3 if you want it looking sexy and smooth then you gotta follow the tips in the vid
    This one's for all the movers and shakers out there, if you have any questions hit me up!

    Best explanation of low bridge that I've seen. I thought my fails were due to lack of strength, but it turns out it's actually mobility. I've looked at many videos on this and you were the only one who explained that I need to push my weight forward over my heels in order to unweight my hands. Now I know what to work on. Thank you!

      Glad to hear Rylan. I would say that low bridge is a combination of lower body strength and bridge mobility. A lot of people with flexible bridges could do the high bridge rotation but will struggle on the low bridge. I'm glad this helps. Get your feet strong so that you can support all your weight as far forwards as possible and this becomes much easier.

    Thank you for the informative instructions. I have been having trouble with the rotation, I bet it has to do with how I was placing my hands.

    • @thepassivehang
      @thepassivehang  3 роки тому

      It's a tricky one Colin! Your hands also enable external rotation of the shoulder which allows you to pivot back and around. Try doing it on the wall and play around with placement and the pivot of your hands and elbows.

    Great video! Does the diagonal stretch help improve posture (reduce kyphosis and lordosis by stretching the hip flexors)?

      Maybe. Posture is more complicated than a single exercise. Check out the work of Annette Verpillot of @posturepro
