Yeah sorry dude, as a guitarist who picked up bass recently your guys music is booring as shit and its not because the bass isn’t a phenomenal instrument with the capacity to make a song. The problem is you guys huff too much jazz farts and are allergic to experimenting. Bands like royal blood prove this. Instead of playing bass lines that could conceivably be made in 1300 on an upright bass and sound 2% different. Try playing more than one string at a time. Implement more bending and add some effects to the rotation that aren’t just a fuzz.

I’m 43, and have been a Deftones fan for nearly 30 years. It trips me out to see all of these kids suddenly really into this band. Not sure where it came from, but I like it.
Deftones is my Dad’s favorite band. He’s hardly been a part of my life, but he showed me a couple songs here and there and I still listen to them today. We even went to a concert once when I was 10 or so. So honestly it’s just a part of me that will always be there regardless of what else changes in my life

Unless you’re a bass player or a hardcore fan, it’s hard for general listeners to detect/diferentiate something they can barely notice. On the contrary, main melodies played by guitars are very distinctive and non-discreet, it plays a big part as a song’s identity.
The bass line? It's not underrated man. I adore Chi but he's literally just doing his job in this song. I wouldn't accept any less than what he's playing in fact.

I was thinking I was stupid for not recognising it until after the guitar kicked in (as a bass player that plays this all the time) then went back and watched it and realised that he played the bassline completely wrong 😂
Considering its the easiest bass line in history it's a wonder that the guy is playing it wrong. I didn't recognise it until the guitars came in because it's not played correctly.
It's not the melody. The notes where right but the groove was wrong. And not in a figurative sense like he didn't put enough "soul" or "feeling" into it. he played the right notes in a different rhythm.

The bass line should have 4 notes. C#, C, A, F#. Its that simple a bass walk. This guy completely misses out the C note making the step straight from C# to A. There's no invalid or inferior way to enjoy art, so just let people enjoy things how they want without making assumptions.
Shut up. Even I, a regular Deftones fan, didn't anticipate it. There are a lot of songs that have the same bassline. Incubus- Out from under or Pardon me is one of the songs. It's also a similar bassline for a Korn song.
