Yeah sorry dude, as a guitarist who picked up bass recently your guys music is booring as shit and its not because the bass isn’t a phenomenal instrument with the capacity to make a song. The problem is you guys huff too much jazz farts and are allergic to experimenting. Bands like royal blood prove this. Instead of playing bass lines that could conceivably be made in 1300 on an upright bass and sound 2% different. Try playing more than one string at a time. Implement more bending and add some effects to the rotation that aren’t just a fuzz.
@@poogle9368you're talking like you are a bass expert. Not all those tricks can work like you think it would, and that also heavily depends on how the overall music is. Bass, is more of a guideline in a song, as it's the most straightforward instrument. Of course it would be cool to make something completely different, but there's only so much you can do, and only 1% of people in this world that are gifted enough to innovate it to such level

I’m 43, and have been a Deftones fan for nearly 30 years. It trips me out to see all of these kids suddenly really into this band. Not sure where it came from, but I like it.
Deftones is my Dad’s favorite band. He’s hardly been a part of my life, but he showed me a couple songs here and there and I still listen to them today. We even went to a concert once when I was 10 or so. So honestly it’s just a part of me that will always be there regardless of what else changes in my life

As a bassist he played the bass riff so differently that I didn't recognize it. Probably why the girls didnt recognize it either untill he played the guitar riff correctly

Yeah, but you can’t really blame them. Bass is often more lowkey in the mix. Unless you’re a bass player or a hardcore fan, it’s hard for general listeners to detect/diferentiate something they can barely notice.
On the contrary, main melodies played by guitars are very distinctive and non-discreet, it plays a big part as a song’s identity.

I saw my first couple of Deftones shows at a tiny little venue called the Cattle Club in Sacramento during my freshman year of high school (1993-94) and it warms my heart to see younger people still getting obsessed with this band just like we all were 30 year ago.

@@DeltaInsanity Not necessarily in this video. Non musicians just usually get fucking incredibly excited when anything with distortion is played. As if the distortion and intensity, or just loud = skill lol. It's annoying, that's all. And the girls here look like they did that.

just say you don’t like distortion. there is nothing wrong with saying you don’t like metal music. there is however something wrong with acting like u are better for it. this riff isn’t the hardest, but that doesn’t mean that metal is just loud sounds. the hardest riff is definitely metal considering how fast they can go and the precision. i also am a musician and play a few instruments. you aren’t better for it. not everything has to be through the fire and the flames to be something you like. i mean in other genres like jazz usually it’s not the most technical stuff. cause it doesn’t always have to be. also not putting down jazz just saying almost every genre besides rock/metal is like this.

Considering its the easiest bass line in history it's a wonder that the guy is playing it wrong. I didn't recognise it until the guitars came in because it's not played correctly.
It's not the melody. The notes where right but the groove was wrong. And not in a figurative sense like he didn't put enough "soul" or "feeling" into it. he played the right notes in a different rhythm.
@@richardsuarez2512 since you are coming back to this two weeks after to wow us with your musical knowledge, I'll tell you it's is both wrong melodically and in terms of the 'groove'. The bass line should have 4 notes. C#, C, A, F#. Its that simple a bass walk. This guy completely misses out the C note making the step straight from C# to A. That one step makes this sound completely wrong hence why so many people are saying they didn't recognise it.

There's no invalid or inferior way to enjoy art, so just let people enjoy things how they want without making assumptions.
Shut up. Even I, a regular Deftones fan, didn't anticipate it. There are a lot of songs that have the same bassline. Incubus- Out from under or Pardon me is one of the songs. It's also a similar bassline for a Korn song.
