Uranium Autunite - UV Black Lights At The Old Uranium Mine
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2021
- We return to the Uranium Mine with our new and improved UV black lights to find the Uranium mineral Autunite. Autunite was the main ore mineral being mined for its Uranium content at this mine. Large chunks were extracted once here but now all that is left are small pieces in the tailing piles.
The mineral fluoresces under a UV light which is how we find the mineral. Autunite is also radioactive but its not in high enough levels to be a concern. However, caution is still needed when working and handling it to avoid breathing in the particles, ingesting it, or being in contact with it for extended periods of time.
I hope you enjoy this video.

the tool is very sophisticated, friend, greetings from Indonesia
Very nice, I wish had a place like this around me in New England.
There’s a quarry in Lord Hill, Maine which I found a vain of this very fluorescent autunite along with other minerals
That’s very cool, I know that area a little bit, but unfortunately it’s an 8 hour drive from where I live so not an easy day trip.
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
Well I don’t know but I’ve been told, uranium ore’s worth more than gold.
Great vid
Thank you.
nice !!!
Ur my fav UA-camr for finding things and I am looking soon for some uranium
Thank you, I hope you find what your looking for. Uranium minerals can be tricky to find, got to look in the right places.
I wish I could go mineral hunting with you because of the exciting finds. I live on Bainbridge Island and can only find beach rocks out here. Though I have been able to travel to nearby places like Walker Valley. I collect the UV minerals but have not been able to get the Autunite yet. I love your videos.❤️
UV minerals are a lot of fun to find. Besides beach rocks, I think there are locations on the coast lines in Washington that have cool fossils but I'm not sure where. I would recommend researching around your location to see what you can learn and find. Hope you find something cool and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.
@@GeoForge Great advice and I have found that there are micro-fossils on Bainbridge Island. The Seattle fault runs right under the south end of the Island and I have found the fossil location. Keep up the great videos they are inspireing.
Muito bom 🤩
Boom boom
Have you checked them for how many roentgens/sieverts emitting ?
Pour crystal clear resin over the large areas that powderize.
Some of the little flakes I have found up there are kinda hot, like in the 500CPM range. Its a good area for collecting. I need to head back there.
We brought some pieces into our college and we plan on testing them with the University's Geiger counter. I'll have to let you know what we find out when we do that.
@@GeoForge I think the answer you will get is very radioactive.
@GeoForge what was the consensus? :)
Hey my friend congratulations on the very nice video!!
Have a nice sequel and I look forward to your next video!!
My greetings to your friend who you were together!!
Thank you! Hopefully I can get up into the mountains soon a few more times before the snow starts to fall.
@@GeoForge Perfect friend, I'm looking forward!!
I hope you make it before it snows!!
Have a nice week and always with care!!
At least you invested in a black light. Get some spare 3.7v batteries and there are much better tweezers than your mom’s eyelash tools. What is your goal on picking this stuff up? The mines near Las Vegas I grew up around were fenced off including the tailing piles. Simple tools will make you more successful in both quantity and quality, good luck.
How can I get started looking for autunite? I've been wanting to go an an expedition like this for a while!
You can research online to see if there are any known locations around your area.
Is that dangerous?
What is the light spectrum of this UV-lamp. Can I find a good light on Amazon?
It is 365nm. You can find a link to it in the description of this video through my Amazon store.
What is the blue glowing stuff
Not sure exactly but I'm assuming its just either the afterglow of our lights on the ground or maybe a piece of trash glowing in the light. There are lots of pieces of reflector tape, and other junk mixed up in the piles. Some feldspars and other minerals can glow too.
Hey is there Plutonium found in nature on very small quantities??
Oklo (Gabon 🇬🇦) Trace quantities, they say.
thanks

What is this stuff used for? What is the Value?
I ask because I have some stuff I found the lights up but really know nothing of value or uses.
Do you crush it up and mix it with something else or can you polish the chucks?
OH and I got a light that has a White Light, Yellow Light & 365 UV. What the hell is the Yellow light for?
Autunite is mined for its Uranium. I heard that the Autunite for this location is considered weapons-grade in uranium enrichment but I'm not sure if that is true. I imagine once the uranium is processed from the Autunite, it could be used in weapons or more likely to be used in nuclear reactors. The value of the samples I collected get their worth mainly as specimens. They are worth something to mineral collectors. You don't polish them, I just wash them and put them into plastic foam based containers. The minerals break apart easily. I've seen just a few grams of the stuff anywhere from $20-$50 online, sometimes more. As for the yellow light you mentioned, I'm not sure what you could use that for.
@@GeoForge Just saw a video or two that kind of implied the yellow light was just a dimmer light source. Like Old headlight compared to the bright white headlight now a days.
Maybe used by doctors (usually in pen lights) for looking into peoples eyes, at the retina. Never got that one.
Thanks for the reply. All the stuff I have ever found has just been for looking at as kind of cool glow deco. Not sure I'd want the stuff to have a Radioactive ability as well.
Hi dear I want to buy this black light. please share me link or website where I can do purchase.thank you
There is a link in the video description to my amazon store. I have it in there if you want to purchase it.
Do you just need a UV light or a geigercounter
A UV light is all you need to find these minerals. A geiger counter would be cool to have just to see how much radiation is in the area.
@@GeoForge thank you so much 😊
amazing 😯😯😯😯😯😯😯
You mite consider wearing a mask, the dust should have a good quantity of alpha and beta particles
We have worn masks in the past which is a good idea but a respirator would be much better. That was a concern of ours as well, we try to avoid breathing the dust. People ride their ATVs in and near the area which makes me wonder how much they breath in from the dust they kick up when riding around. The tailing piles are everywhere from this mine and others near by.
What's the point of collecting that stuff?
I collect them for the same reasons I collect other minerals and rocks.
are they safe?
For the most part yes. They are radioactive minerals so caution is needed not to breath it in or ingest any of it or the surrounding dust when collecting it. Storing it in a safe container is also recommended.
@@GeoForge is it safe to touch those things bare hand?
@@holycrap8367 I would recommend gloves when handling it but I have handled them with my hands. The radiation apparently can be stopped by your skin and other objects such as paper, plastic or glass. Still, would not recommend it especially for long periods of time. Some Autunite seems to be more radioactive than others so I would imagine the radioactivity ranges from sample to sample and from where it is collected.
@@GeoForge alright, thanks for your info it really helps 🙏
What if you accidentally flick one in your eye?…
that's why some russian glowing in the dark.
