  • This video covers an awesome drum fill that sounds hard, but is actually quite simple. Hopefully you can take this and start using it if you don't already have something similar in your arsenal. This drum fill is based on a 16th note triplet pattern that moves around the toms.
Please refer to the notation on my website, gattsdrums.com.

I find it quite hard do make those triplets on snare with one hand only. I find alternating hands (obviously) easier. Is there some exercise I can do to improve one hand triplets skills?

Hi Guilherme, thanks for your question. This motion is very similar to the Swiss Army Triplet, which is one of the rudiments. So, you can check that out and add it to your practice routine. In this fill I'm not using flams, so you can practice the Swiss Army Triplet without the flam to mimic what I do in this fill. In addition, I would recommend practicing the Triple Stroke roll. First, try it with the traditional sticking (RRR, LLL). After that, try it with all other sticking permutations such as RLL, RLL; RRL, RRL; and RLR, RLR (and LRR, LRR; LLR, LLR; and LRL,LRL for left hand lead). Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!
