I think it's so cute how he speaks Japanese and she responds back to him in English. They both understand each other even though they're speaking their native languages.
+James Lynn I was looking for this comment!!!
+James Lynn it's easier to hear a language than to speak it so I can understand
That was possibly my favorite part of the video.
I also love that.. I like when they speak in their native language
Yeah it's usually much easier to understand a language than to speak it, my grandma speaks to me in turkish and I respond in french ^^
Jun: *trying to tear it nicely*
Jun (really sweet and polite): Is it okay if I tear it?
Rachel: Yeah, that’s part of it
Jun:
ARGHHHHHAAHAJAJWNWNNW
Jun: I thought we were opening the presents now?
Rachel: No! You have to put them under the tree first!
Jun: O_o
Me: ~suddenly realises how totally weird Christmas tree etiquette must be to other cultures~XD
Cool Unique Violist I'mSpeCiAlL tOo!!1!
Jk
Christmas is really different everywhere, kinda funny to think about. In my country we open presents together with many many guests during the evening.
dAYYnish wow that’s interesting for me I open mine at night
Lilo X Charlie aww that sounds really cute haha
I think Jim Gaffigan put it best: It's like the behavior of a drunk man.
Take these lights and put them outside in the yard, then chop down that tree and put it in here.....
wow! Funny :D i actually open my gifts
in my dream because we celebrate "christmas" by eating i our home
You forgot step 6 give box to cat
One time, I bought my cat a really amazing and comfy cat bed. I ordered it online so it came in a box. My cat totally ignored the bed and just slept in the box lol
+OreoClarity Yesss that's happened to me too!! Whenever my friends and family order things online, I always ask for the boxes to give my can and they think I'm crazy lol
+Julia Smith haha rofl XD
+Julia Smith welp if u research a lil, i actually found out boxes relieves cats from being stressed. so let them always have the comfy box :3 💓
Rosesunitra Mean Aww that's so cool!! Thanks for letting me know :-)
Jun speaks English so well and has such a good American accent that I forgot Japanese was his first language until he had a difficult time reading the cards
StarLightWolf I think its about the handwriting.
To be fair, a lot of Americans can't read cursive anymore either. That's why love writing in it
Apparently the writing on the card was cursive. I can't read cursive very well and I grew up in America.
@@ChinchillaQueen cursive is about to go on my state's lawbook as mandatory, I don't know why it's not a thing! All my kids learned as well.
@@Toywins I wish it was a mandatory thing for my home state. The most they learn is their names so they can sign documents.
It's interesting seeing Jun's evolution in the videos. Most videos he doesn't seem interested (but as Rachel said it's just his "Japanese" nature) but the more videos I see the more expressive he gets. It seems he was so excited for his first official Christmas he just spoke Japanese the entire time but it's nice to see that he is opening up more in videos so we get to see more of his personality. Jun should do a video of his view on western culture and how he sees it if he hasn't done one, seeing someone else perspective on things is always interesting.
it's interesting to hear how some people's voice changes when they speak certain languages.
Exactly. My voice goes deeper when i speak my languages
It's so strange. My voice sounds deeper in English and higher in French than in my native language (Dutch).
My voice gets... more resonant? When I speak Japanese. You can hear how Jun's voice does something similar.
Yesss ! my girlfriend is canadian/german. When she speaks english her voice gets low and unclear and she starts to mumble and talkes reaally fast. But it sounds sooo cozy and warm and cute. Especially when she's sleepy. But in german her voice is clearer, higher and louder and she sounds soooo cute cause sometimes you can hear a little english accent and it's the cutest thing ever.
And i'm just a german girl who learns japanese...
Yea, whenever I speak French my voice goes deeper but it doesn't change when I speak irish or English and it slightly goes higher when I speak Spanish
Hahahaha, I've never seen Jun so excited as when he opened that package of cookies.
Rachel: I'm a little bit obsessed with nail polish.
Jun (Muttering): Not a little bit.
HA Brilliant!

i know its three years ago you made this comment but i just wanted to say that you are so correct! They are almost identical to asuna and kirito XD

They met like straight out of an anime as well
Sword art online comes to mind
@@bonnie_rabbit749 yeeesss that's what i was thinking when i watched sword art online😍😍
I think it is absolutely adorable that Jun wanted to set up the tree. Like, I can't explain what that did to my heart. Lol. Christmas tends to lose its charm after a while, especially once you've grow up, and so many people stop feeling that joy and wonder that they felt when they were younger. It's just nice to see someone seem excited about something so simple as setting up a tiny Christmas tree. I have a four year old boy now so Christmas is exciting to me again now that I can see the wonder in his eyes as he helps me set up and decorate a tree (which I'd begun to see as little more than an exhausting chore). It's just... I dunno. I didn't mean to make this big long comment. I love spending time with people from other cultures here in the US because it's amazing to see them be interested in and get excited about traditions and things I've long taken for granted.
I am only seeing/reading this for the first time so a year late, but just wanted to say your comment was just right and not too long at all. I really like how you captured what I also felt, that sweet innocence Jun displayed at experiencing Christmas. Rachel was also clearly very happy for Jun too.
I agree. I love watching videos like this. Especially when it's couples experiencing each other's cultures. I've long felt ie Christmas was becoming more of a chore than anything, but seeing things like this helps bring back some of that wonder you felt as a child.
Lana at least ur not 5 years late XDDDD
Jun has really good posture.
Yes Ive noticed most Japanese have amazing postures since I live here! Is It tatami?
This definitely deserves more likes.
Lol

Right?
Merry Christmas, everyone!! :D :D :D
And Happy Holidays, happy everything to everyone! And if you don't want to celebrate anything... happy day to you! ヽ(^ ▽ ^)ノ
Merry Christmas great video
Merry Christmas Rachel and Jun! >^.^
So many warm fuzzies watching this!
Buon Natale!
Joyeux Noël!
It's so sweet watching Jun who's never had xmas before ^_^
I've always found Jun adorable, he acts like a little kid sometimes XD
ITS ALL SO NEW TO ME
So adorable ~
@XxNeonSkiesxX I find Jun a little unemotional in tone for that, Rachel's unwavering enthusiasm is more my kind of d'aww.
WATCH OUT, RACHEL! JUN HAS FANGIRLS!
lowkey living vicariously through these two cuties
Lowkey my ass, highkey every time I say "awwww!"
True love:
Jun: ~offers cookies~ *you can have mine too*
you two are so cute. jun is so polite and quiet and rachel is so sweet and loveable. you two seem like you really have a lot of respect for each other.
aww jun asking about all the Christmas traditions is so cute! It's a nice reminder of how different cultures around the world are. :3
Jun: I'm honored to receive this box
I couldn't stop laughing... He's so sincere! I think it's very special to share such an intimate moment with the world. Blessings to both of you
It made me want to cry to see you both with your small tree. I don't like christmas here because of family relations, but I hope I can spend christmas with friends or somewhere else with a S.O. one day and get small presents and enjoy the holiday too
Dahlia Cross I'm two years lata, but I feel you. I'm in the same boat.
Aww I hope you all the best. ♥️
Ha, same here, my family is made of 4 strangers put together in one house
Dahlia Cross you can do it kid!!!!!!!
I teared up because I saw them so happy enjoying their time together and treating themselves with respect and I wish in some future I will have my own family or friends with whom I can feel this way too.
Good job Jun for reading cursive. Sometimes it's hard to read. Merry Christmas, and good work Rachel's mom for sending the presents. My mom would do the exact same thing.
Its honestly great seeing a relationship where two people are constantly learning from each other while they're growing together. Wish there were more people like this. Keep making great content!
To answer Jun's question about quantity of presents, it really kind of depends on the financial stability of the family and the age of the recipient. The younger children generally end up with the most presesnts, and the grandparents end up with the least, but in America, the grandparents LOVE to give their grandchildren things. So in our family, our gift to my grandparents is to let them set up christmas, and plan everything, because that's their favorite part. Usually we give them fluffy blankets and slipper socks, while the parents get "relaxation baskets" full of nice soaps, perfumes, lotions and general pampering gear. As a teenager, I mostly get makeup, money, some books, and clothes, the occasional art supply and guitar accesories which is really nice because I hate buying clothes and makeup myself. Younger children get mostly toys, kid's art supplies and some clothing. every year the parent also coordinate one gift for everyone, like last year, we all got super nice sherpa blankets, and the year before, fluffy pajamas. So that's presents in my family, I don't know if richer families do it differently, but that's us.
In Finland, there are many charities that give christmas presents to kids who otherwise wouldn't get them, and food baskets with christmas foods for poor families. Everyone can participate and send these to the organizers. We did it this year with my family, it was really fun!
Edit: Also, elder homes wish for christmas cards for their residents that might not get them from their relatives. The cards make them really happy!
@@raapyna8544 That sounds wonderful. In my city here in America the Salvation Army helps out with holidays. For Thanksgiving there's the turkey giveaway. You get a turkey and potatoes canned veggies and rolls and a variety of stuff. Last year we got a bag of apples and gallon of milk as well, so nice.
For Christmas they do a Christmas bureau and families or individuals can go and receive a gift check good at a couple different grocery stores to get some food and families can choose gifts for their kids. Some really good stuff and for all ages up until about age 17. Really good selection too. I've lived in other towns and cities before but they don't do much to help others. The one I'm in now really takes care of their people. People here even help to feed and care for the homeless. It's wonderful when places like your country and a city like mine show such love and kindness by helping others so much.
And I like be the idea of cards to elderly in homes. What a wonderful idea. I think I'll start doing that. And not just Christmas but anytime of the year. It must be nice for them to be able to get even just a little cheery note from someone and feel like maybe someone cares. Thank you for that idea.

Just stumbled across your channel, you guys are so adorable!!! It must be hard to live far away from your family, Rachel. I am in the US with my husband while all my family are still in Malaysia. That's so great that you get to share Christmas morning with your family like that, brought tears to my eyes just watching!
Thank you!! Yeah, I miss my family a lot. I really wish I could visit them more, and I can't wait for the day that they can come visit me! I really want to show them around where I live now! :D
I'm sorry you're apart from your family, too. Life can be kind of tough like this! >_
plaingal79 Malaysia? Does your family celebrate Christmas? If so, how? Cause my family practically just does nothing and just hangout together.
Oh my goodness, your mommy's beautiful package made me cry. So cute with the note, the tiny tree and all the love and warm fuzzies inside. Christmas is always in your heart no matter how far from home.
@yuki nagato Oh shoot!!! I somehow missed the captions for that part!

How many presents do you receive each year?
This many??

This just made me grin for 20 minutes, seeing you two opening Christmas presents and not having to be apart anymore, it's perfect
These sweet wholesome videos... I'm glad they exist. Thank you.
i love how jun has all this wonder about Christmas, hes opening things and just, so grateful to receive them. loved seeing that.
"the christmas tree balance" i felt it!
idk why but this video made me so happy, I couldn't stop smiling
there are two kinds of american families during christmas. those families who take turns opening presents, going very slowly and carefully. and those families where christmas is a free for all with everyone opening presents at once. wrapping paper is just flying everywhere, it is complete chaos. and it's just interesting watching this as a person coming from a christmas chaos family. because I am like jun, and I just really want to get in there and open presents.
Me: aww what a cute couple
Also me: in bed alone at 1:00 A.M eating sushi
🙂
Y'all are officially the cutest couple ever :) I love your videos, and a lot of the stuff you talk about will be useful when I go to Japan in a couple years (after I graduate. I'm only in 10th grade at the moment.)

I love how respectful Jun is. I know that's the Japanese culture but I love that. He didn't want to rip the gift wrap & when opening grandma & papas gifts he was grateful for the mittens, so sweet. Loved all your gifts especially the homemade cookies
It is so cool that one of you talks something in Japanese and the other one answer back in English.
Kawaiiiiiii! Love and miss you both!
haha miss you Shane!! Hope we get to see some of your Christmas!
I have just found you through Sharla's channel and watched a couple of your heartbreaking videos about being apart. Are you guys finally together for GOOD? I surely hope so. You seem so cute and compatible together. I almost had tears watching this video. Even the kitty is peaceful and content. Wishing you only the best.

Hello Rachel & Jun! I was wondering, could you maybe one day do a video about Japanese body language and communication, please? I would love to study in Japan in 2 years, but I don't quite understand all the differences between eastern and western countries. I thought you guys were perfect for this, because you may (well.. probably) have noticed cultural differences in communication in your relationship! I know for instance it's rude to stare Japanese people in the eyes, so how do you communicate then?
I would love to hear from you :)

I thought they kinda celebrated Christmas in Japan . anyway I always end up looking like a Christmas tree myself because wear all jewellery I get and all the ribbons but this year I was overshadowed by my younger relative who put almost all of the wrapping in to his clothes.
HAHA your family sounds great
I've heard its usual to spend christmas with your girlfriend/boyfriend. (If you have one) many had to go to work this christmas since it was on a thuesday.
Rachel & Jun they are it just sad that the live around the globe
I got family members in four continents so getting all together even with one side is sadly impossible
Personally I spent Christmas day with 3 friends watching a pro wrestling event at Korakuen Hall. 2 of them were girls, one was a guy who is married with kids but still came with us lol. Since a lot of people aren't that serious about religion they aren't as crazy over Christmas it seems. Seeing cool decorations around town is good enough for most people. New Years eve is a bigger event. They go to shrines during obon and new years and such; I guess you could say they are more spiritual than religious.
I'm totally basing this off of anime and manga so my perspective may be skewed but i totally thought they celebrated christmas too! So are only the town/cities decorated? I know they give each other gifts....unless its only to their special someone.
I mean, here in the West, a lot of us who aren't religious still celebrate Christmas (sometimes harder than those who are).
i love that Jun speak in Japanese while Rachel in English but somehow they understand each others..
They both speak English and Japanese
Just watched this again. It's one of my favorites, just because you guys are so cute in it! I hope you do this again this year. :)
