- In 1974 the Netherlands was under the spell of the British glam rock band Mud. Mud had a number of unsuccessful singles in the late 60s. The band performed music from Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, who also wrote the hits for The Sweet and Suzi Quatro. The first result was Crazy, which did well in England. The next single Hypnosis was not exuberant enough for the Netherlands. The third single Dyna-mite caught on. Mud went straight to number one in the Netherlands, even though it was after a hesitant start; it was, after all, a single from 1973! The Mudmania was supported by the videos in AVRO's Toppop, where the men in bright red clothing did their dance steps.

Les Grey was a fabulous singer and front man.
Mum used to sit us down in front of our black and white TV with a curly wirly to watch TOTP on a Thursday night.
Life as never gotten any better than back in them simple happy days of great music.

Dear Keith, I felt compelled to reply to your comment because in these dark days of civil unrest, it truly warmed my heart but also made me chuckle. I too was a youngster in the 70’s and didn’t we all love Mud? Wow. I’m still here and still think Les is cool. I just loved the fact that these lads always looked like they were having the best time. Always smiling and the dance moves were great. Those moments in front of the telly with a curly wurly or in my case a fry’s chocolate cream were just the best weren’t they! I wish Les knew we still loved him. Xx
Let's go back to the seventies, the best decade of all time! If anyone is tinkering with a time machine, please don't forget me!

Great song, saw them in 1974 live and 1975 and many years later when Les was looking Ill.
I remember me and my friend began the “we want Mud” chant and the whole theatre followed.
Excellent memory.
Then the 2nd time, there was an on stage fire in one of the amps as Rob was seemingly smashing his guitar on it. Not sure if the fire was intended but it made us chuckle.

It was written by Phil Wainman and John Goodison, like most of their most popular material, the actual members of Mud had little to do with it.
