Back in the dark ages (early 1960's) my cub scout den mother lived right in front of the driveway to our new (at the time) waste treatment plant and arranged for us to take a field trip to see how things worked. The manager was very nice to us and showed us how everything flowed into, was processed and discharged to the local reservoir. By todays standards it was very primitive and we had a MAJOR PROBLEM with phosphates causing major algae problems. The plant has since been upgraded and expanded several times, but I am unsure if they still use the "combined" storm water and sewage lines (they did in 1960 when it was built) and heavy rains would cause the manhole covers to pop up and dance around much to the delight of us kids riding the school bus. It would be great if you could get permission form one of your local treatment plants to film a tour. There are a lot of videos of treatment plants from small to YUGE and they are all fascinating to watch.
@@griffgoldstein6378 I've always found the how's and why's of systems and their operations. As a volunteer fire fighter, I got to get an inside look of things. Very cool.
Chance is that they still use combined sewage and storm, they can't upgrade the whole city and every houses quickly. So what they tend to do is to split it when they redo the infrastructure. This is required because, well, they have to replace the pipes and install a second set. Now, all the houses still combine, but they bring the new pipes to each houses. Now when they have to redo their house plumbing they now have to split. So chance is that it will take like a hundred years before all is upgraded. But better start very slowly than not start at all.
just started watching your channel, after finding out about 3 weeks ago, that I had a problem. I wanted to learn more about septic systems, and I stumbled across your channel. Thank you! You have explained things, shown all of us things that I had no idea about these septic systems! Man, they need to teach this in High School! You just never know when you are going to own a home that has a septic system! Thanks for your hard work and dedication, from all us up in Canada watching your great content! MMM! Smells like money.
Modern treatment plants are amazing. After the bar screening, sand and grit are removed. Then a mix of aerobic and anaerobic processes, settling and filtering are used. The nitrates, phosphate and dissolved salts are removed by microbes which settle out.
One of my hats I wore before I retired was waste water operator. Waste water treatment depends on bacteria, living organisms. You stress them just right to make them do what you want. This is a complicated balance and highly technical. Most operators are proud of their plants and will give tours. But stay with your guide, waster water treatment facilities are dangerous places.
I toured a wastewater facility for my microbio class in college. It's actually a really fascinating process. It's amazing how much water gets cleaned up at each plant.
Very educational for first time homeowners. Awesome to see our disposal system operations and understanding of how all this works hand in hand, Thanks for sharing.
When I was working, our company worked in many Water Reclamation plants in California . What we did was install aeration blowers and code generation engines and piping . The things we saw at these plants would blow your mind . A plant in San Clemente California had the best looking tomatoes and cantaloupe growing right next to the inlet piping from the city . It doesn't matter where seeds go, they will grow. Hahaha at most plants, we would see crows sitting on the sweepers picking out condoms and other items in laying them across the sweepers. Why they do that I don't know.😂😂😂 the other thing, you are so right when you say smells like money. Have a safe New Year my friend
Best thing about bar screens, cash $ I found hundreds of dollars in bar screen! I also worked at a treatment plant that you could drink effluent but no one would volunteer! We called it from you ass to your glass! 40 years of service in one of the largest plants in America.
When I was a kid in Simi Valley, California we had our septic tank drained. The pumper would take it to a field and dump it there. We had no sanitation plant back then.
Man, imagining the odor from that dumpster at 14:50 is enough to make one gag...Summertime must be brutal...Thanks for making the world less shitty...:)
I’m sure you know this but as someone who’s ran vac in the oil and gas sector one thing I’ve found with extra sucking power is throwing a bleeder in the middle of the hose and it will let a bit of air in and move it quick
Hi dude. I'm in the UK. Waiting to hear back from a trucking company about work on a vac truck. So ya film has been very useful. Thanks for your efforts.👍
When I did Porta John service where we dumped at a treatment plant they had two man holes with quick connect fittings we'd hook our dump hose to the truck and those fittings
So this Shop might actually want to have the Tank at least Checked at the 2 year Mark. To see if it might need to be Pumped. 3 years seems to be very close to the Top.
There is no way I can wait until the end of the video to comment. Sure I've turned my cordless and used it as a hammer but never as a puller/prybar then as a shovel. 😂. Gotta love it. Finally this is the first time I came across your channel and I'm definitely in 👍. See you in the comment section again soon 👍 🇨🇦 🔧
We have to go to a different plant that uses a lagoon system of treatment. We still can only dump septic there. For grease we have to go to a separate facility
I enjoyed this behind the scenes video. This reveals how unfriendly those wipes really are to our septic/sewage systems. The toilet or hose bidets seem much more friendly than wipes and toilet paper. I wonder if the overall environmental and cost burden of the impact on TP, production through disposal is compared to the extra water consumption of bidets. I suspect if we had a butt-wipe free world and “wiped” with water instead, it would have a better environmental impact. It takes a lot of water simply to remove or disintegrate those wipes anyway. As for bidets, I like the sprayer type hose that hangs from the side of a toilet, compared to the bidet seats that spray you. I first saw the toilet + sprayer combos in Thailand because they couldn’t flush toilet paper in many (most?) parts of the country. If your hands and poo on them, would you wipe them with paper, or use water to get them clean. Even without soap, which would make your hands cleaner? If people can have cleaner butts, fewer hemorrhoids, less paper production, less paper waste and a minimized environmental impact of waste water which is more efficient to treat??? I don’t know the answer, I only have hunches. I enjoy this channel because Dom shares the reality of the lifecycle of our wastewater. I’m learning how to make better personal choices when Dom shows us the crust layer. This channel has great content!
In the 50s after WW2 people built their own house and dug a hole and put in a 55 gallon drum as their septic tank and they are still working today. A bunch of my neighbors had them
Pro level! Couple questions. How much does it cost to use the treatment plant? How much do you charge a commerical customer? HOw much do you charge a residential customer? On average how many jobs can you complete in a day?
Hello. I do the very same job, just in another country. If we can please have a video where you tour around your truck explaining the different features it will be appreciated (at least by me).
Where do you dump the sewage if the PH Level is to high? Do water treatment plants have special areas for high pH level sewage or would that go to a hazardous waste plant?
I noticed there was no filter installed in that 2 compartment tank. Is it required in your state? I know in Georgia it is. Great videos. Keep them coming. 👍🏻
Hey buddy. An idea for ya.. maybe you can get this to happen... A ONLINE or smartphone game ... Septic tank Pumping experiences.. a game of going to jobs locating tanks.. opening them diagnose them pump and dump.. on a point system if speed and accuracy of location and completion... What you think??!!!
I've seen some that just dump onto a concrete area,it just dries up then they scoop it up with front end loader and then i think maybe used in fertilize, not sure!!
How much is a new truck? Do you own your truck? How often does the Vac need work? If the Vac breaks who fixes it? Do you need a special drivers license?
dude im on system 3 in pa. last guy ripped us off. During the dig for this one we noticed the turtle shells were uphill, yes i said uphill. Sick of being ripped off and dont want a sand mound.
A poo truck was in a highway accident near our house and ended up on its side. It leaked all over the place. The fire departments from two towns came out and hosed down the roadway and the gutters. A lot of it went into the storm drain system and the Passaic River. Yuck!!!
Love that DeWalt shovel 😅
It would be so cool to have a video tour of the treatment plant! Thanks for all of your awesome and informative content!
Yeah, that would be super duper cool.
Every time I watch the poor pumper I get an overwhelming desire for a big glass of chocolate milk.
Hahaha. I am sure it's the opposite for sane people.

Currently installing my own septic system. A 1500 gallon tank with a 500 gallon pump tank to a mound system. It’s a lot of work to do by yourself.

I just had a physical and they needed a sample. It's funny that a truck needs to give a pee sample. Love your videos 👍👍👍

Good job, my friend. Keep up the good work. We thank you.
There are a bunch of tours of waste water treatment plants on UA-cam. I've watched some. Hope that helps.👍👍👍
I like the idea of getting a tour of a plant, that would be great content.
Great video really enjoyed it. Like to see some videos of modern homes with the home waste water treatment tanks.
When I was a kid in Simi Valley, California we had our septic tank drained. The pumper would take it to a field and dump it there. We had no sanitation plant back then.
If I saw this as a little kid I’d like it as much as garbage trucks and garbage trucks are pretty awesome
Hey Hey you make it look so easy, Good Job and well Done,
👍👍
You were just at my parents house in Mercury ! Awesome !
I’d find a tour of the plant really interesting.
I love these long videos as opposed to the Shorts
How can you not love a guy that pumps out someones Bowel movement and not enjoy doing his job
I’d love to see more about waste treatment from start to finish including maybe some problems they might have

Can ya smell it?
You are so interesting to listen to and watch.i love your work ethic!!
Very informative video dude.
Super great info. Thank you so much for your knowledge I know it's just POO but POO has to go some where.

You dump after every pumping due to the size of the truck tank or required by code?
So much respect fam!!

the all new, dewalt impact driver shovel. 🤣
That crust buster is the cats meow
I'm not gonna hop in their play some mexican music and rub fabuloso on everything 😂😂😂
That must Smell AMAZING! Eat a PB&J while at the plant!

My city waste water treatment uses the cleaned water for plant irrigation on parkways and golf courses
