  • This video for medical students includes two entities: acute respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. These are covered in two separate chapters in Robbins Pathology, but since they have some overlap in terms of pathophysiology and morphologic features, it can be useful to look at them together!

    Nice presentation. One note for students. The phrase "Hyaline Membrane" is a carry over from 19th century microscopy. Back then we didn't know what we were looking at, and described things empirically. (We still do this for new entities). The phrase means a uniform pink thick band of material. It is typically protein, but could in principle be something else. Importantly, it is not a real membrane.
