Medical School Pathology: The Pathophysiology of Fatty Liver Disease

This video for medical students focuses on the pathophysiology of the two pathways to fatty liver disease: 1) excess alcohol (alcohol-related fatty liver disease) and 2) insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, NAFLD). Morphologic findings (steatosis, steatohepatitis & steatofibrosis/cirrhosis) and clinical features are also discussed. Material is based on Robbins & Kumar Basic Pathology, 11th edition.

I like the repeated reminder that the most severe aspects of these diseases can be reversed by halting the continued insult. So physicians, you have a responsibility to get this message out.
