Just had the opportunity to meet pinche poncho in February! I almost died laughing when our boat driver told us his name.
Glad you had a fun time.
Where at? Is he still around there? I would love to see him when I am in Mexico this spring.
@@Jbmc65 Poncho is always around. There is a colony of sea lions not too far from the marina so whatever sea lion comes to your fishing boat or to the marina that day, his name is poncho. They are all named poncho, lol.
It's amazing how graceful these animals are. Poncho mounted the dock as if he was light as a feather! How smooth can you get?!
Pretty amazing, when you consider that big males can weight over 1000 pounds.

Those fish they are feeding him are goggleeyes.. one of the best baitfish in the world.. I love Cabo and poncho❤️❤️❤️

Didn't realize how famous he was when we met him a few years ago after our fishing trip and he came aboard for some left over bait. It was a really cool end to a great morning.

There is a lot of body weight compared to it's flipper leg things. I think on beaches it's fine, but I am thinking trying to walk around on concrete would put extra stress on it's small flipper legs.
They spend half their existence climbing on rocks on the shore line, to find places to sleep..

They're actually closer relatives of bears than of dogs.
He was abusing of not putting fish into his mouth

Imagine being in supermarket full of biscuits then someone offers you a packet of chocolate digestives in a pond. Would you get out of the territory you can escape easier for a packet of digestives? So I’m asking myself is this sea lion so lazy that it exits a supermarket full of fish to get one small fish in a different medium? Or does it want to communicate somehow? Stay in the water pal.
i also have that kind of reasoning at times, if i did eat too many mushrooms. ^^

Yeah, boat crew feeds him (and his buddies) then they climb on and take over boats in the marina. You wouldnt believe the horrible mess a sea lion can make of your boats cockpit. Then there is trying to evict one of these large animals from your boat when they dont want to go. DONT FEED WILD ANIMALS SO DAMN TOURISTS CAN TAKE PICTURES.

The sea lions on Pier 59 in San Francisco made alot of noise and messed everywhere! They almost slept on top of each other. I was there in the 90s. I didn't see anyone feeding them.

Every male sea lion is now called Pancho in cabo. The original pancho died.
