Love these! I'm such a klutz at placing these, so I usually cheat- I remove the plastic, place them face down on a clear jelly stamper, add 3-4 drops of water to the paper, then slide the backing paper off and use the stamper to place them. Water decals are so fun to play with!
Ooh I never thought of trying that! I soak off the back on a wet makeup sponge so I can slide it off 1 handed, then put on the stamper (when I remember to use it 😆)

I say “dee-cal” too (from Nebraska). I agree with the others that I think it’s a Canadian thing - I’ve seen multiple Canadian nail artist say it the way Suzie does in this video

If you put thin base coat layer on nails stickers will slide really well. It really makes this process easier if you do mani by yourself

You can get tons of inexpensive decals, even custom designs, on Etsy. You can also print them at home with waterslide paper. There's tutorials on DIY decals. If you get the right materials, they're every bit as good as premade!
I got clear. At some point I'd like to get white so I can make lighter coloured ones to use on darker backgrounds.

I have used water decals for years and I always keep the layer of plastic on while soaking. The decal will then be picked up by the plastic, which you can then place directly where you want it without the need to awkwardly shift it over the way you have here. It transfers back to the nail instantly and the image is exactly where you wanted it.
I have printable water decal paper which doesn't have a plastic cover. I soak them on a wet makeup sponge, that way it's a little easier to slide off the backing as it often sticks to the sponge. A lot of people then put it on a clear silicone stamper to place on the nail.

😮 I have tattoos that match that LOL I found those kitties online about five years ago and picked out a big one and three little ones and arrange them on my arm so it’s me and my kids with their initials on top I have to add one more though since I had another kid since then

The whole time I was wondering what a deckle was. Finally dawned on my it's a decal, like dee-cal-sal-shall, pal. 😂
You can also use your rubber stamper to pick up the decal, then push the backing off while it’s on the stamper, then roll it onto the nail using the stamper. Super easy 😊

Man, You used to be able to find those all the time in the drug store! I was the water decal queen back in the day. Anyone remember the custom decal kit Sally Hanson has back in the day? I wanted that so bad, but my manicurist told my mom they would be harmful to my nails. As if I wasn’t already costing them in nail polish....
You can buy printable decal paper both in some hobby stores and online.

I just got my nails done and they used the largest brush with one bead of acrylic for the entire nail. They are thin, bumpy and actually kind of painful.

Great tips Suzie! Do you know that you can use a clear stamper too. After soaking in water, put the decal on the stamper, peel the paper and position on the nail. So easy and helpful with precision. Love your videos! You are the best!

In the U.S. the cal of decal has the same "a" sound that you hear in the word pal. The first time I heard decal pronounced so differently was when I heard Cristine from simplynailogical say it. I thought she was just being silly until I heard you pronounce it the same way. 😊

I love water decals they're so easy to use. I actually make my own. You can purchase decal paper (clear or white) at your local hobby store. The ones that sell model cars, planes and trains. Mine are 5.5" X 8.5" with 6 sheets per pack at $10.99/. Clear are good if you are doing just black or putting it on a white background. White if you are putting it on a darker colour, so it will show up. Just be prepared to cut it very close to your image. Basically pick anything you want to put on your nails from cartoons to family pictures. I just use Microsoft Word, change my paper size, and insert and resize the photo to fit. Then print, seal, cut and attach. A helpful hint; if you have longer or curvier nails your decal may bend, crease or fold. I soak it in vinegar instead of water when taking off the paper, the same 10 seconds. Then after placing them on the nail, use the soaked Qtip for 30 to 60 seconds on the spots that at wrinkled to soften the decal. Then rub it on those spots until it lays smoothly on the nail. I did large "Mockingjay" decals on duck nails for one of the movie premieres, with character's pictures found online. Because they went from curved to flat, the vinegar technique came in handy. You can literally put anything you want on you nails.
If you're able to buy from Amazon you can get a much better deal. 20 sheets of 8.25 X 11.75 (A4 size) for $14.85 USD.

@@AnyaMRocha I'll have to try and remember the vinegar thing. I made comic book covers for the Endgame premiere, and a few other nearly full nail designs that always got wrinkles.
@@katstorm13 Yeah I hated the wrinkles in the beginning too. It was actually the guy from the hobby shop that suggested using vinegar. He had been making models for years and that's how he put the decals on them. Works like magic.
I'll correct my wording, but soak them 10 seconds in vinegar to get them off the paper, and then after placing them use the soaked Qtip for 30 to 60 seconds on the spots that at wrinkle.
