On the DVD commentary, David Simon said that the script didn't call for D'Angelo to go off like he did, instead to remain calm until the end. Lawrence Gilliard Jr (the actor who plays D'Angelo) could see that he needed to take it to another level, and it turned what would have been a good scene into one of the best in the whole series. Brilliant actor.
No it wasn't the beginning of the end for him. It needed to be done. Wallace couldn't get over ole boy being left on the hood of a car in the alley underneath his window. Wallace was weak enough to talk to the police...that made him a liability. He could hurt the organization by talking. String made a decision he was supposed to make.
It was fear more then anything. Idris played that well. As paranoid as Stringer was, it was definitely anger but that anger was bore out of fear. He's yelling about a possible homicide in a police station. Stringer was terrified, he could barely breathe when he said that.
This was the beginning of stringer’s downfall. The betrayal of Avon, and ultimately what got him killed. He always thought he can get his way out of anything. As long as he put whatever it was on someone else.
Levy in the background saying "kid, you better think" is so sinister. He knows he's representing literal child killers, but doesn't for a second hesitate to defend them.
@@TribalScan.He meant that they were squatting there. Do you know what that is? They weren't in the system, in the projects with poor parents. They were basically homeless living in a vacant.
This scene still gives me chills. Props to Gillard here, the acting is top notch. He really nails the expression of hopelessness and dread knowing Wallace is gone and it's his associates who are responsible.
D’Angelo was emotional not rational. That’s why he couldn’t get the best lawyer. Stringer saw him as a liability for having too much of a conscience. The Game can be so heartless.
It was too much for D’Angelo to think that the guys on the streets lives meant nothing to the leadership. In all honesty, this proves that D’Angelo has real leadership qualities. You’re suppose to stand up for those under your care, even to next level leadership. It’s no different than another crew killing off Wee-Bay without informing Avon. They should have had enough respect for D to discuss the decision about one of his crew members with him. Sadly, the way in which he displayed his disapproval got him killed.😢I love the Wire.😊
As an english guy, I wonder if Idris ever found anything funny about the phrase 'where's Wallace?' being shouted repeatedly, with such passion. The shorthand for 'Wallace', of course, would be 'Wally', which, as every english schoolkid knows, is what our version of Where's Waldo was called ;)
Everyone favorite is usually slim charles or bodie; soldiers that were loyal to the end..but my favorite was d'angelo, he had a heart, which was what got him killed
Yeah he gave bodie a mafiaspeak order to kill Wallace. Bodie and poot killed Wallace. And then mcnutty dropped that info to d in the interrogation room.
Signed his own death warrant with that outburst
He shouldn't of had to😢

@marekkowalsky463-he wasn’t snitching on anybody. The only people he said it to were stringer and levy.

Gilliard should have gotten an Emmy for season 1. Even among Wire fans, I feel like he doesn't get enough praise for his performance in the series.
Absolutely you’re correct, incredible actor.
@chrisdawson1776 About as natural as your mom on her back.
I think it’s one of the best lines I’ve ever seen in tv or film. Where’s Wallace? Heartbreaking.

“I don’t want this Payless wearing MFa representing me”. 😮💨👁
That shut your mouth line was said with so much guilt. After D gets buck with String, he gets upset and begins to plot his murder.
Not really, I think it was more like a subtle way of saying "hes dead but I cant tell you that shit atm so stfu"
It was fear more then anything. Idris played that well. As paranoid as Stringer was, it was definitely anger but that anger was bore out of fear. He's yelling about a possible homicide in a police station. Stringer was terrified, he could barely breathe when he said that.
@@jerrodlo4449 True that
I don't believe Stringer could understand or process guilt.
How does anyone watch this series and think that was guilt? D was implicating him in a murder and he was pissed.
“Payless wearing mfer” 😂 he didn’t have to do Levy like that
I loved D man, one of my favorite characters in the whole show
This was the beginning of stringer’s downfall. The betrayal of Avon, and ultimately what got him killed. He always thought he can get his way out of anything. As long as he put whatever it was on someone else.
No. Talking to Prop Joe was the beginning of the end for Stringer. Avon never moved on String until String fucked up the deal with Brother Mouzone.
This clip has mode into my all time favorite playlist. I've watched this clip 30+ times, it's so damn good
