I don’t know about y’all, but Philodendron hederacium lemon lime is not at all common in my area and if a store gets them in stock, they go FAST! I’ve been collecting plants for 3 1/2 years now and FINALLY got one locally about 3mo ago because a plant friend saw them at a local nursery and bought 3 so she could share!
@@manonguinchard5829 oh wow! They are very cheap where I live usually around 15$. And I live in central Canada so that’s really cheap for literally anything here 😂.

"Start small with your ficus, and dream big" - this is exactly what I love about your advice on this channel, practical and fun! Thank you, from a new subscriber!!
100%! I wish I had more space that is out of the reach of my cat because they are pretty toxic I don’t want to take the chance of her trying to snack on one but god damn especially the huge floor plants are GORGEOUS and make such a statement
I have a Silver Bay that was in a dish garden arrangement that someone sent for my father's funeral. Ten years later, it is now 27 inches tall, 40 inches wide, and growing in an 18 inch pot.
"shaking your plant" or, more correctly, simulating wind movement, does result in stronger stems (especially in grow areas where wind is absent). And there is scientific evidence that supports it. all thats required is gentle shaking for maybe 10 seconds each day, please do not shake your plant like youve lost control of your anger; like nick said, a fan is best.
You’re correct. The way people think you’re supposed to shake your plants often damaged roots by pulling off the little hairs but if you use a fan it can help in many ways such as stronger roots and keeping the leaves clean for longer.
It was refreshing not to see a pothos mentioned, however, in my low-light house, they are my trailing plant of choice. I just get different varieties of pothos to make them more interesting. There's the plants you want, and then there are the plants to live a long life in your house. I have to say though, I also love my small ponytail palm for a unique fusion of tree, bush and trailing plant in-one! It does have prime real estate in the lightest areas of my home though - which aren't many.
If i can recommend a nice hardy fern, the Austral Gem Fern (which is a Asplenium hybrid) gives you that nice kinda frilly frond look while being really hearty. I actually had to go away and leave it unwatered for almost three weeks and it bounced back like it was nothing.
I saw these recently and was really drawn to it, but ferns don't like my house (despite humidifiers). I may have to go back and snag one! Thank you for the suggestion!
Trees outside do benefit from some wind as it does make their trunks stronger, that's why there's controversy about staking young trees. Inside, a fan does the job & it's controlled.
I forgot about a dracaena white jewel (idk it’s the green and white one 😅) but I forgot about it for 5 months the bottom leafs were dead and it looked like the newer middle leafs died too so I dumped it in the trash can. And saw that it’s roots were all perfectly fine so I put it in a smaller pot after plucking it’s dead leafs off and it’s totally fine! In my experience they don’t like to be dry for too long so I’m actually really surprised and impressed 🤷♀️🤣
Nick, this video is perfect! Many thanks for all the tips and information. I will admit that it is my favorite kind of plant video. Lots of your personality, good but never boring information, great examples of the subject plus we get to see your beautiful plants. Well done! 👏🌿🥰💚
Cissus! I never knew this as anything other than a grape ivy. Mine is old as dirt, probably 6 or 8 years old. This year I sawed it in half and repotted both. They’re huge. Mine has never done well once I bring it in for the winter, it really drops leaves. Maybe divided with new potting soil it’ll not struggle as much. Fingers crossed.
Haha I loved “don’t shake your ficus”. I agree with buying them small. They drop leaves easily and you will not have the same size plant after you take it home.
I am so glad I found your channel! I love houseplants, but wasn't sure about them. Your tutorials on different ones have really been a Godsend! Thanks Nick and keep the green info coming! 👍 you help make me look and sound like I know what I'm doing with my 🪴, lol.
Probably, it is some kind of proverb. In Russia people have one similar "to shake the pear tree". That means someone is doing nothing. If you are not visible right now at your workroom people would say: "Where is J O ? He went to shake the pears".
I'm all about the mounted Staghorn. I have 2...I do keep mine pulled about 12 ft from a South facing window...which is pry too far so I do keep a grow light on them and set them outside during the summer.
I love my little Dragon Tree and have been curious of other Dracaena. I love trailing plants and now I am trying to add some bushes and trees. Thank you for the informative video. would love to see more how you actually style them together. 💚
Hi Nick! Those are some really good choices! I have several Dracaena Marginatas and really enjoy them. I have a small Janet Craig, too and one that is labeled a Warneckii. I have 2 Aglaonema and want to find more. I'd like to find a Spring Snow, like yours. It's so pretty. I'm still on the fence about mounting my 2 staghorn ferns. They're doing so good in their pots that I'm afraid I might lose them if I try mounting them. I'm really looking forward to your apartment tour! I you thin the video would be too long, which I love your long videos, maybe you could do your bedroom in one and the rest of the apartment in another. I'd prefer one long video. LOL! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you. These plants you chose are all beautiful. I have several ficuses and love them all. Even my dwarf lyrata. My favourite is the Tineke ; Leaves remind me of water color painting. The mature leaves of the Ruby does not stay bright red which make it look like a weird looking tineke. Do you know why the mature leaves of the Ficus Ruby turn green? Does stag fern needs to be remounted? If yes, what are the indicators? Have a great day and stay safe
Your lime philodendron is lovely 😍 nice to know it can tolerate low light levels. I am wondering if my heart leaf philodendron can grow a little in low light as well? It grew small leaves last year when it was in this low light spot, maybe I need to rotate it?
can you do a video about the differences between species, hybrids, and cultivars? i basically get the difference, but would like to know more...Please & Thank you
Man o man Nick I saw that Cissus in your collection and Summer Rayne’s. I have been looking for that specific plant just because it does has a bohemian vibe and it’s just fit with my style. Soon after You mentioned the cultivar, I immediately check on the internet and no one selling that plant here in Indonesia. Fyuhhhhhh 😮💨😪
Do you happen to know if Orchid Spray fertilizer would be good for a mounted Staghorn? I know it works for some other epiphytes like Hoyas, so I was thinking maybe it would be great for them.
Nick! Tell us, please, did the Tetrastigma make the move? You said something about a Cissus not doing so well... Hope hope hope it wasn’t the Tetrastigma! Please mention it. Thanks.

Nick what kind of ivy was it that you recommended in one of your videos a while back? You called it wax ivy but it had a technical name. Love your videos!

Ferns in Arizona are not really a thing… the only ferns I’ve had any luck with are asparagus ferns.. the ones that get the white flowers.. I had one on my porch for decades!!
You’ll want to wait to water them until the soil is almost completely dry bc Dracaena (sansevieria were re-classified as being part of the Dracaena family a few years ago and when you compare their roots and growth pattern, you can see why!) have really delicate roots so they are prone to rot. In fact, their watering needs are not unlike that of a succulent 😊

In becoming more interested in plants I learned about the importance of transplanting so about a month ago I moved her into a bigger pot with drainage holes. Now, I had not yet learned about soil mixes and just used an all purpose soil which I find remains wet for a long, long time (it's still about halfway humid 3 weeks after I last watered her). I now have learned more about the importance of drainage and airation in soil mixes and am wondering, since dracaenas are prone to root rot, if I should change the soil or if doing that would harm the plant more, considering I just transplanted like a month ago. Any advice?
If I were you I would risk it, the soil staying wet that long will rot the roots! Dracaena need a well draining soil. I do a mixture of fox farms ocean potting mix, charcoal and pine bark. Good luck!
Love the plant shelves backdrop. Do you ever have issues with the plants growing slower or getting entwined because they’re so close together? Love the look, but I’m scared. 😂

Yes, how do we style these plants, like hang the cissus from a hook in the ceiling in a corner,….???, anything more designerish?
