I worked on this just the other day, & I felt so much looser on the gig. Please don't get discouraged w/this stuff. I found it to be very beneficial. Don't feel compelled to do it as fast as Mr.Lang right away...take it slowly at first..you'll get it.
Thomas, it's the 4 over 3 pattern that makes my brain 🧠 seize up forsome reason...I'm still learning at 64 yrs old. 😏 And I'm so glad that you are a very good teacher, easy to understand your lessons.
Everytime I watch you on UA-cam I learn something. I just got out my copy of the 40 international drum rudiments. I am back working on my Snare Drum chops. Everything boils down to groups of 2s and 3s. 2-2-3-3-2-3 for example. Triplets and eighth notes. The Professor
I hugely appreciate these exercises. This situation material you would easily pay a bunch if money for on a DVD set. I love this guy sharing the knowledge. Thanks for helping us all up our game. Love your stuff Mr Lang.
Enjoyed your Lesson,- You are A Great Instructor Thomas! Thank you very much! Your effort and time making this available is invaluable. Much Appreciated and Many thanks!
My mind is blown! I've been looking for a way to learn accents and i did not understand the accents and rebounds book. this is soooooo helpful. Thank you!
Thomas,THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! this is a great practice I've only practice for two days my hand balance improve very much(Although only 50 bpm) nothing else but THANKS A LOT!
Yes it's called jojo Mayer secret weapons for the modern drummer, a guide to hand technique. Todd suchermans methods and mechanics is my fav DVD though.
Thomas you're really one of the 10 best drummer in the world ! What masters ! What a surgical precision! "You can also increase the tempo" ... It's a pity that I am obliged to divide the tempo by 3... ^^ F***k ! work-work-work-work- never give up - never give up - never give up NEVER!!
+Larry Tate You're correct. Jojo does touch on this in his DVD. Tony Williams had a similar exercise. Very fast unison quarter notes w/all 4 limbs (not flamming) together for extended periods of time...painful at first, but beneficial.
Warren, Try leading with your non-dominant hand. Rip thorough some singles leading with your Left if you're a righty, or your Right if you're a lefty. At first don't worry about how uniform it is, just get it moving and separated, and you should be back on track!
All I want to know is where can I get a set of edrums just like that with extra closed hi hat and double bass and 3 cymbals just awesome I act need a set like that.
i haven't played drums consistently in about 14 years. so getting my timing back has been a huge challenge. i remember struggling with perfect timing in the 4th or 5th grade when i started. the worst part is feeling like i can still play like a 15 year old that could skate for 8 hours straight. i never really got tired back then. i was using old sheet music in my apartment, and i got some rudiments back, but now that i have drums, its more depressing and less motivating. especially since i only play original music, so drumming to my own music that never got any enjoyment from others, well, its like why should i even bother anymore? i'm just a talented loser alone in a room doing things no one wants to hear... people want to enjoy music... people wonder why we say music is dead. well, that is why, because in the 15 years of playing guitar, i've never met another original musician in 15 states that i traveled. you get random bands, but never someone doing what i did, which was just hanging out at open mics and busking. you'd get someone with one or two original songs, but they'd always resort to known music for approval. i used to write 3 songs a week, and memorize them, and play at the mics. after about 15 songs though i start to forget. but getting to drum again has been wonderful. its just that at that point i could keep up with guys like thomas lang, in my own right. i always feel like i'll just sit down and copy chris adler again, but then i can barely even use my legs. life sucks.
@@Martin_Bernard definitely! death/extreme metal is mainly what i listen to hence the username :) Goerge Kollias, frost, Marthyn Jovanovic, HellHammer, and Inferno are some of my favorites. idk if you like blast beats but they make playing in unsion as simple and easily to where its simplicity could very well come and feel as naturally and easily as playing a 4/4 feels. And also comes along with better stick control and so on
Great exercise. I have been practicing with both hands in unison and it is solid. I am having trouble when I try to alternate, like a single stroke, my hands keep going back together. What exercise do you recommend to get them separated? When are you coming back to florida?
Obviously I'm not Thomas Lang, but there's a single piece of advice that always works when you're having trouble on drums, do it so slowly it bores you. For a long time. It'll become natural more quickly, and you'll have room to make sure everything's precise.
Hello! Amigo tocas demasiado bueno batería podrías dar clases en español esq casi no te entiendo XD un saludo desde costa rica tus vídeos me sirven de mucho
So simple, even septuplets with right hand accents on the toms are easy..... Still, I'm here for the same reason as anyone else - Lang is rather talented and is often excellent youtube material
TommyLand the mic isn't part of the headset, it's just a headset mic worn underneath the Vic Firth headphones (which are great btw.) suggestions based on price/quality/etc: shure WH20 ($100) countryman E6 cardioid ($400-500) or DPA 4088 or d:fine cardioid ($600-800) Like anything gear-wise it's all about your budget. Definitely don't get an omnidirectional capsule (which picks up sound in all directions) you want a cardioid or hyper/super cardioid pattern. Looks like he's using a DPA. Hope this helps.
Dude is like taking a drum lesson from "Shwartzenegger". "I must C-dush You!"...."Drago' from Rocky 4! ha ha! freakin' machine.. silly Austrians and Russkies.... always 'over-the-top' about their bootcamps. lol! guy is ridiculous-good though. we all know that.... must say however, i prefer the 'looser', less-perfect-muscular' approach to 'warming up'. Steve Smith comes to mind. very relaxed...looser....cerebral. this guy is almost 'too perfect' for what i'd be into... sayin'.......
Ok, I ll start practicing, see u in 20 years

his unison stroke is so perfect it sounds like only one stick is playing it. haha. awesome video
Thomas Lang is a complete bad ass!

Lang is awesome.
Thomas Lang is such an amazing drummer/teacher. Never thought about doing these exercises so thanks a bunch for making this lesson.
Jojo Mayer does this in one of his solos on his hand tech DVD
+Larry Tate do you have the name of the dvd? I always love to learn more.
Yes it's called jojo Mayer secret weapons for the modern drummer, a guide to hand technique. Todd suchermans methods and mechanics is my fav DVD though.
+Larry Tate thanks so much Larry I'll definitely check him out
No problem.
Wow, I wish there was You Tube back in the seventies. Very nice!
Thank you Thomas ! for the drums/evolution !
awesome and extremely useful
I like how at the beginning I'm all like, "well, this isn't so hard!" And by the end my brain literally explodes like from the movie Scanners.
Whoa I hope I can get that good some day o.o Props to you man
Awesome! Great lesson. Works for me.
really good wee lesson,,
THIS IS GOLD TOM
Great lesson, loved these exercises, bloody hard to get those amazingly clean synchronised hits that Lang gets though!
Killing s always My Friend Thomas

Any videos where he goes over his electronic drum kit set up? Couldn't find anything. Really like it
"Okay?" Best end to a lesson ever.
Best lesson ever ...
them rolands sound good...nice snare...
Simply the best!!!
Great! Thanks!
Man those unisons with accents on toms from beginning sounds fantastic.
Awesome thanks for sharing, I think jojo might of been doing something like this on his hand tech DVD solo.

when doing this excercise, should be be focusing on finger actuation, or wrist actuation? ie, are our fingers or wrists doing the drills?
"you could always speed up the tempo.."
Sem dúvida Thomas Lang para mim é um mestre obrigado Deus por esse instrumento usado em suas mãos. Te amo muito Thomas Jesus Cristo também te ama.
A very good example to learn from is Ringo Starr. Two examples would be the beatles revolution video and there cover of kansas city.
This dood is a machine...seriously. Each body part is it's own entity!
aaah man, i got chillz just watching those exercisesm especially his very last rolls, it killed me ! damn i need some real practice !
Not fast, only 100 bpm lol
All I want to know is where can I get a set of edrums just like that with extra closed hi hat and double bass and 3 cymbals just awesome I act need a set like that.

this is a really great lesson for anyone using blastbeats in their music
Death metal drummers play much faster, 140 bpm or even more

muito bom esse cara!
I should have seen 5:50 coming. My jaw dropped. I can't wait till I accomplish that.
Just practice it every day, you'll be surprised at how fast your muscle memory picks it up. I'd say you'll be in about a week or two.
FOR REAL.
idk if you like blast beats but they make playing in unsion as simple and easily to where its simplicity could very well come and feel as naturally and easily as playing a 4/4 feels. And also comes along with better stick control and so on
Damn, more like drumming concentration camp!
Great lesson but crazy stuff
Great exercise. I have been practicing with both hands in unison and it is solid. I am having trouble when I try to alternate, like a single stroke, my hands keep going back together. What exercise do you recommend to get them separated? When are you coming back to florida?
just keep playing singles

Do it slow
Was waiting the whole time to hear WHY you would practice them, he drops the bomb at 7:50
Thomas Lang the Demi God
Full God!
Always this god comment, so annoying
@@Martin_Bernard I am sorry that my 8year old comment offended you
@@rich4896 Hope during that time you realized that's just a normal human being who practiced more than average drummers
Hmmmm... Gotta try this one...

beast...
is he using moeller or whhat? how do you get the rebound off of the toms?
i have some troubles doing this on pillows with no or little rebound ... about 10 minutes (90+ bpm ) and my arms start to hurt already :*(
5:50 idk why I can’t stop laughing
Warren, try at a slow tempo, accentuating all the left hands then the rights. Might help :-)
Thomas you would have killed with Dream Theater :-)
DT is NOT worthy...
Yes if Mike the master Mangini hadn't destroyed everyone that showed up
Mangini was the right choice..not that any of the choices wouldn't have worked..other than Roddy..had no business there.
Lang plays like a robot and has no musicality, that's why he doesn't play for any famous band
Does anyone know what kit that is?
Its the flagship Roland td30kv supernatural kit with aux x- hats and left bass drum and other extra kick pads.
Odin approved!
I get to 380 bpm and then I stop distinguishing the notes completely. Something wrong with my ears? What should I do? lol
P.S. The video is awesome!
Is that mic part of the headset? Ive been looking for a headset with a mic so I can sing some background vocals while drumming. Any suggestions?
TommyLand the mic isn't part of the headset, it's just a headset mic worn underneath the Vic Firth headphones (which are great btw.) suggestions based on price/quality/etc:

Thomas Lane
yeah i didnt catch any of that
Thats why you neeeed to practice this (and whatever else)
I thought he said "we will start with 190bpm" xD I was like wtf
Start at about 40bpm more like haha
Pardon my sight. Is that an electric drum?
ok
Okay?!
Unison hand rhen fricking polyrithm

That freaking metronome is driving me nuts and up the wall. If I had to play by click or metronome I quit. Can't take that 💩
wtf.........
