The Lello and Brothers Bookstore used to be free for visitation, but due to the swarms of tourists entering everyday to take pictures and not buying anything, the stairs and the floor (on 19th century boards) became wobbly and damaged, the carpet had to be changed 4x per year and the real buyers would skip the place not to be hindered by visitors. The bookstore went through a complete restoration, spent nearly a year closed, and when it reopened it started doing the system shown above.
I've just come back from a lovely 3 days short break in Porto. Porto is beautiful and is certainly becoming a must see city break destination. Plenty of things to see and do, it's very reasonably priced, lots of great restaurants, cafes and bars, cheap and efficient public transport and we had 3 days of lovely March sunshine. Loved every minute.

We visited the algarve, Lisbon and Sintra. But we missed Porto and it sucks! We will come back to Portugal some day and visit Porto it looks incredibly Beautiful.
Be sure to visit the Douro Valley, Braga, Guimarães and Viana do Castelo among others! The north of Portugal is one of my favorite regions of Portugal and I will always love in particular Porto (my mother's city) and Braga (my University) . SAUDADE!
I'm from Porto, but have been living in Lisbon for 5 years now. When I was younger, Porto always seemed to me very decadent, sad and grey. 15/10 years ago the streets were full of old abandoned buildings, there were almost no tourists and no lines for livraria lello. Porto just bloomed really fast, and it became beautiful. Although I still prefer Lisbon, I will be forever amazed and proud of Porto's growth.
Lisbon is for amateurs. Too bright. And lacking what Porto has - a truly old historical center. Pombaline grid system ruined the city for me. It's also way more spreadout making walking the city unfeasible.
Loved this blog, it has been so nice meeting both of your parents through your post. Your parents did a good job on you two, really shows! Happy travels.
It is great to see your traveling channels that help me explore many different places without leaving my home town; and one day, I hope to have the chance to visit Porto, Portugal as well.

My recommendation in Porto is : visit Jardim do Morro in Vila Nova de Gaia and after the sunset have a dinner in Bistrô Bom Gosto, the same side of the river. They have a fantastic food.
Spred Billys ashes in porto market, lovely place! On the 27th of march they will return and bring with them from dust the condemned of the old world 27658685334048954i5348534867348967634784368934768945973475983476349856732896734857237623857235972357239672367329674329674239675249067240957096769067469074366346363463463
OMG, you went to Portugal again. How lucky you are. I went to Portugal last December. Your last video helped me a lot. It’s definitely as good as you said. Porto is indeed a super charming city. I hope I can visit there again. Did you take the tram line 1(riverside line) along the Duro river? The whole ride was gorgeous. Even it was winter time, it was full of surprises. I’m grateful our B&B hostess recommended this.
Thanks for the francesinha recommendation! I went to Bufete Fase tonight for dinner and my Porto francesinha experience was exactly like your video, right down to the extra french fries and sauce. Better than the francesinha place my travel guidebook highlighted.
Bufete Fase is really good! It's pretty much the only thing they cook but it's pretty good. I also love the one from Brasão and my favourite vegetarian is in Lado B (although I don't really enjoy their regular Francesinha). Yuko is nice but not located downtown. If you ever go to Braga, they have a restaurant "Taberna Belga" and they serve some amazing francesinhas there as well :D
I'm planning to visit Portugal before the end of this month; thank you for this very helpful video. I'm sure your chocolates went really well with the 10 year old tawny.
Hi there, we've been enjoying watching this, thank you for taking the time to add it, we found it really helpful before our visit? It's lovely to discover how we can share and learn so much from each other through channels such as this. We film 4k walks in cities, and have just filmed here, so it's especially interesting to see your viewpoint. Look forward to seeing more from you.
Hi there guys, welcome to my home. My family and i moved here 7 years ago, we moved to the mountain area and started a base for people to come and learn all about how to be sustainable. We live in a little broken down old village only a few old people left here, but they teach us their trick and tips for growing food all year round, we have been able to be self-sustaible for almost 5 years now. I am an artist, my husband does odd jobs around the villages to help the old people, and to pay some of the bills we have. There are always lots of beautiful things to see driving around our mountains, and there is the odd restaurant by the side of the road selling delicious mountain food, there are swimming pools in the summer, and there are natural fresh water rivers to swim in, the cleanest in Portugal, beautiful self service accommodation, with views to make you believe in magic the moment you wake. Here in our village we have a second hand clothes stall, goats for milking, fruit trees, olive trees, nut trees, all in abundance, yet there are no people here, a piece of paradise in the mountains. We also invite musicians to come and record their albums in our wine cellar studio. I have a blog if you would like to see, the things that go on here, pictures of the area, how to get about, and my little shop, with my art and our music page, check it out, help us keep self sustaining our world one family at a time... portugalmountains.blogspot.com inside my blog you can find links to buy our music. enjoy, keep up the good work in Portugal
Hi Samuel and Audrey, I'm a recent subscriber of yours. I just came across your blog when I was surfing for new things related to Lisbon, a city I know so well. I was about to go there as a must given that the Eurovision Song Contest was taking place there early in May. It had been over ten year that I have last been to Portugal coming from Spain, and it was to Porto in 2014. When I saw that you had posted a video about that place I felt that I had to see it right away. You covered the right issues about that city to get people interested in going there, as you did with Lisbon. The last segment about the Francesinha was just perfect, as you do with everything related to food. The first thing that got me interested in being a subscriber of you blog was your accent and demeanaour, that brought back to me the memories of all the people that I have met in Canada, where I have lived for five years in diferent periods (Victoria and Kelowna B.C., but also also in Toronto most recently). Keep doing that endeavour you have taken as a mission that it sound so authentic, staingthforward and honest to me. Cheers, Miguel.
Thank you very much Miguel! We sure enjoyed visiting Porto. It has so much charm and we all loved it. Wow, that is really cool to hear! I'm actually from a small town on Vancouver Island called Gold River. It is close to Campbell River and Comox. That is really cool you lived in BC for a while. I sure miss my home province. I haven't been back since 2007 and Audrey has never visited so we're due for a visit out west soon.
Hi Samuel. Some of my most cherished and fond memories of my whole life go back to those two years I spent on your island in my twenties. The closest I went to Gold River was Tofino, at the north end of the Pacific Rim National Park, with Cathedral Grove as a memorable stop on the way there (Douglas-fir trees!!!). In Victoria I lived on Gladstone Avenue (we called our place Happy Rock). Another coincidence with you guys is that Brampton is also a place from where I have even more recent fond memories. While living in Toronto I used to spend many weekends there at a friends’ house on Mill Street, next door to downtown Brampton. When you finally take Audrey to your hometown on the West Coast, I’ll be expecting to see the best ever video of yours from Vancouver Island. Cheers, Miguel.
Thank you very much Miguel! That is so cool to hear. We've lived in the same areas. I'm really excited to show her and to make as many videos as possible. I hope we can visit soon :)
I didn’t go you guys. The flight operated normally but they would put me on quarantine and I wouldn’t be able to come back straight away and I would be put in quarantine where I live as well and I’m a key worker so...
Amazing guys! Has found your channel 'cause was searching for videos of my birth city São Paulo which I was missing a lot then now found this guide of the city I'm currently living in, Porto. I saw you guys on the streets of Porto, I live near Ribeira, have the sensation that I knew you but just now I realised how I know you guys. :)
Thanks for sharing your trip to Porto. It was really inspiring for a guy (like me) seating in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia watching how you capture the city of Porto into screen. Love the grande finale where you guys chow-down the Francesinha - it really look tasty! lol... Thank you so much and enjoyed the whole 17min video. Sunny regards from blue skies Kuala Lumpur. ..!!
Hey guys, I think you should include names of places you visit in the description below or as a text during the video, since it`s hard for you to pronounce them correctly, so it`s hard for us to understand exactly what are you talking about. Thanks for the video!

Love Porto! It's my city. Now I am living out but I always miss it. And the food... Thanks for the video, Porto is so much more but it was really a nice video. ❤️
Paula Felix Machado Why did you move? It's a beautiful place
Great video. Helped me decide if the city is worth being on my priority list. I loved Lisbon and from what I've seen I will love Porto too. Thanks.
Thank you! That is awesome to hear.
My recommendation in Porto is : visit Jardim do Morro in Vila Nova de Gaia and after the sunset have a dinner in Bistrô Bom Gosto, the same side of the river. They have a fantastic food.
Thanks for the tips, George!

We had a great time in Porto.
Thank you! That is really cool to hear. No we didn't get a chance to do that. It sounds totally awesome though.
Douro river you mean .
Laus Ant Yes, I misspelled it.
It should be Douro river. Thank you for the correction.
Two Coloradans in Porto for the next three days - just watched your video and loved it. Thanks for the good ideas.

Thanks for the guide! Love the shots you took, definitely have to see the bookstore and the blue tiles in person when I visit this New Years
Thank you! Hope you have a great visit.
Thanks for the francesinha recommendation! I went to Bufete Fase tonight for dinner and my Porto francesinha experience was exactly like your video, right down to the extra french fries and sauce. Better than the francesinha place my travel guidebook highlighted.
Thank you very much! That is so cool to hear. Ah, we miss that place. How long will you be in Porto?
Bufete Fase is really good! It's pretty much the only thing they cook but it's pretty good. I also love the one from Brasão and my favourite vegetarian is in Lado B (although I don't really enjoy their regular Francesinha). Yuko is nice but not located downtown. If you ever go to Braga, they have a restaurant "Taberna Belga" and they serve some amazing francesinhas there as well :D
Só boas recomendações. A taberna belga é praticamente o unico sitio onde janto sempre que vou a Braga. Abraço Portuense :D
Tbh is not even the best one in Porto
Another great vlog guys, nice to see your dad on board, always interesting and informative, and with some humour, keep up the good work i am a big fan
Thank you very much Billy! It was fun to film with him.
I'm planning to visit Portugal before the end of this month; thank you for this very helpful video. I'm sure your chocolates went really well with the 10 year old tawny.
Thank you! Hope you have a great trip!
Thank you!
One of the best videos-Keep it up. :-)
Thank you very much!
Fabulous video! We will be in Porto in July, thank you for the tips and prices. Love your Parents!
Thank you! That is really exciting to hear. It should be much warmer then.
Thank you for sharing your trip. Truly amazing
Thank you!
You guys ate so cute!! Yum!!!
I’m going to Porto in April. I really hope my flight won’t get cancelled because of coronavirus
Wishing you the best with that Elena.
Elena Tse bad luck brian
@@paulomen22 how did it go?
I didn’t go you guys. The flight operated normally but they would put me on quarantine and I wouldn’t be able to come back straight away and I would be put in quarantine where I live as well and I’m a key worker so...
@Dream Dream Serene erm u ever think people didn’t expect a virus. Wtf wud u even ask this question? Smh
Thank you , we take your suggestions. Special the Francesinha.
Thank you! Ah, that is so cool to hear. If you ever see us again come over and say hi :)
I love this video, I love the paretns there, they are so cute. I wish i wpuld travel with my parents too..
Thank you very much Lenka!
Your reaction when eating Francesinha was everything hahahah too good. I'm glad you enjoyed my city :)
Thank you! We loved it :)
Sunny regards from blue skies Kuala Lumpur. ..!!
Thank you very much Francis! We miss both Porto and Kuala Lumpur! What great cities for exploration and food.
Hey guys, I think you should include names of places you visit in the description below or as a text during the video, since it`s hard for you to pronounce them correctly, so it`s hard for us to understand exactly what are you talking about.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks! That is a great suggestion Yana.
This was a superb tour of a city that we now know we have to visit. Well, done. And, as a side note, I am now lusting after a GH5! What crispy video! Oh my! For some reason this video just popped for me visually. More than usual.
Thank you very much! With the right light the GH5 is pretty amazing. We've never had a camera capture details and color quite like it.
Great video on Porto. Thank you so much for the great ideas!!
Thanks Jenny! Hope you have a great visit.
