Thanks! The Tunnel is easy to access from The NC side. That part of the Smokies is not crowded and full of history. Plus the views of the lake & feeder creeks are terrific.
@@JBENHIKES well thank you for the compliment! We visited some of the lesser-known spots a while back and made a video but haven't released them yet this one didn't make the west but maybe next time! Thanks again
That’s for sure! I mean who doesn’t prefer those crisp cool dry fall nights! But that was t the case on this night. Damp on damp situation... Thanks for stopping in to comment. I appreciate it, - JBH
Hi I have a quick question I'm from the UK and working overseas until my contract finishes next January - I'm going to take the opportunity to hop over to the US to do a Pinhoti - Benton Mackaye thru hike in Jan to March. I thought bears hibernated in winter? So was surprised to hear about bears on your trip and the use of bear canister etc. When did you do the trip and should I worry about bears? I've already got a zpacks bear bag hanging kit. Thanks.
Hello… I did this hike in October. You’ll likely not start potentially seeing bears until you reach North Georgia on the Benton MacKaye. As you move north on the BMT , the probability increases even greater. With that being said, in the southeast, during the winter, they will do a hybrid hibernation. While it is technically winter with cold temperatures, it is not uncommon to have successive 70degrees days which stirs them up from their slumber. Then the temperature will drop significantly causing them to retreat back into their den. You will not likely see them, but there is a chance! The bear bags/canisters are highly encouraged for the aforementioned situation. I would say, the bags/canisters are more to keep the rodents out of your food. Feel welcomed to ask any additional questions as you prepare for your hike. The guy, Leonidas, that was with me is a wealth of BMT information since he thru-hiked it. Good luck … you’re going to love the Pinhoti Alabama section! - JBENHIKES
Another great video! I need a clip to hold my umbrella like you guys. I’ve tried to rig it and can’t make it happen. Which company did you get yours from?
Zpacks... but Leonidas lost his in GA somewhere and I almost lost mine too. It’s inexpensive, but the shipping on it is ridiculous for something so light. Leonidas message me about some items he needed for me to bring when we met and the clip issue was one of them. I rigged up a system with some shock-cord & a line-lock that I feel would probably be superior because it won’t fall off. . The Zpacks clip is smart and ok, it just has a design flaw in the clipping mechanism that hooks to the daisy-chain.
Another epic video JBen! Except for the rain! Road to nowhere was awesome. A place I would like to see!

That road to no where was awesome. Thanks for the history on that. Awesome video Jeff. Crow✌️
It really is...
Been to this "road to no where" tunnel before. A little bit cool, a little bit spooky. Love those trails down low around Fontana
Yeah it’s an unique area full of history and artifacts....
Next time I go I'll be stopping there! Thanks for sharing
Oh yeah..., you & Rachel will do a great video ! You’re on the clock...ready... and... go...
I’m already looking forward to it.
