This video explain how to setup and use the Customizable DIY Aquarium Net Cover from Red Sea to prevent fish from jumping out the aquarium.
It's made with an aluminum frame with black color from outside. It has a sleek profile and minimalist hanger so you can focus on the living stock rather than hardware.
I wish the net was made with small hole so no small fish could get stuck and I painted in black to avoid the reflection of the light.
The Red Sea Aquarium Net Cover is a solid product overall even if you don't own any of their aquarium.

Great video. Sooo much paint... I think I like the Red Sea one better than the one I did a video on awhile back.

instead of dipping the netting into paint, you could have used rubber spray paint or krylon fusion for plastic as both would stick to the plastic and not flake under flexion.

Good tips! honestly, I was in a hurry when I filmed this, didn't have time to get something else.
Didn't test the stretch but that paint is very elastic, it doesn't flake. I used also on my saltwater tank (show in this video).

Funny and informative as always! But for future or if anyone else is wanting a black mesh. Deltec has those, Jumpguard PRO. Same concept and looks just as good!

I heard about the jumpguard, didn't know it was made from Deltec? Do you live in Europe? I think in America DD distributes it. Thx for the tips!

Black net cuts your par level ( or so I have heard )

    • @AquaSplendor

Sure, depending on the density, but it's irrelevant,, if 5-10% loss is too much for you, simply crank up the light, it's that simple.
      Coral will adapt anyways.

@@AquaSplendor No, it is perfect imperfect. I guess the most viewer like the entertainment. And it is a good balance of helpful informations and accidents.
By the way, I tried to make calculations for the bottom glas of the frag tank...
@Aqua Splendor Hey, i did some calculations based on the bending beam principle. The results are okay. I calculate with following input, maybe you can correct the values and I will recalculate.
      Glas Thickness 8 mm ?
      Bridge bearings 300 mm ?
Coefficient of elasticity 70,000 N/mm² (not changeable)
      Tank filling height 300mm ?
The bending stress (only water) on your tank is 3,16 N/mm².
Laboratoy values for glas are 100,000N/mm². Practical values are between 15,000-25,000N/mm². That sounds still "unbreakable", but structual engineers calculate for short time stress only 80 N/mm² and for long term uses only 7 N/mm²!
If the calculation right, then your setup is strong enough.

      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +1

@@Christian..... Wait what you this kind of info for my frag tank!?
      Thickness 1cm
      Height 30cm
      Width 90cm
      Depth 40cm

@@AquaSplendor This info means, if your tank will break on the long run :-D
I already mentioned, this is a calculation based on the "bending beam principle". With this physical principal you be able to determine the needed thickness of ceilings, beams (steel, wood...)... I did the calculations for the bottom glass.
The Tank is 90cm. The mouse pad reduce the "Bridge bearings" maybe to 60cm. Therfore the bending stress should be 8,75N/mm². The glass is resistent up to 80N/mm² in short term. But in the long term the glas is only resistent up to 7N/mm² (Scratches, enclosures...are the reason.) Additional the front and back glass panel support a little bit the bottom glass.
Glas, and actully the most materials, are less bending stress resistent in comparison to pressure and tensil stress.
Pressure is no problem for you tank, and a full faced bearing would be the best, this logical.
Youre setup is not on the safe side, but it should be more or less okay. You will be on the safe side if you cut the mouse pads one more time and put them uniformly under the tank, that reduce the stress extreme

Transparant net I find much more practical, you simply don't see as much dirt and, above all, salt that accumulates over time. However, I wouldn't buy this cover again. It's a waste of time , and the effect will never be the same as with octo lid, etc. And with Red sea, you really have to work hard to make room for wavemaker cables. cutting the corners is not enough, unfortunately. you have to experiment, even with the Dremel I have you won't be able to do much, because - the more corners you cut out, the more you round them, the more you weaken the corner.not nice
