I used to do the same with hot dog and hamburger buns. I prefer them toasted anyway, so I just toss them in the oven or AF on a low temp to toast while I work on the burger or whatever. Just need to check them every couple of minutes. Before keto for me, but I know not everyone here is keto so someone may find this handy.

I do that with berries so that the ones on the bottom don't collect all the moisture. I just flipped them over once or twice a day and they don't usually get the fuzzies before I eat them up.
Hi Bobby and Brad! Good Morning! Really glad your doing a video on this since. Its really important with so much money being spent on food and when you toss away food your basically tossing away money. Thanks again and have a great day!
My wife and I scarf deals at clearance all the time, some r date sensitive, some not. I have bought clearance produce that I intend to eat right away and pay fraction of $$. Just have to use judgment on how it looks. I bought clearanced frozen shrimp reg $9 got it for 99¢! Tried it. Was so good, I went back & bought 15 more!
Thanks Bobby this is great. My Mother-in-law told me years ago that the dates on food do not mean the food is bad. Yes, smell the food great indicator.
If you want to stop cutting away good cheese, wrap remainder on vinegar soaked paper towel or cheese cloth and put in air right container. I have eaten yogurt many months after all by date and tinned goods even a decade after i have bought them. If the tin is not blown it is ok. I keep spices in freezer and flavor stays good for years. I kinda like that people think it goes bad because the super market is always knocking down prices by50-75% and i scoop up great bargains. I will freeze avocados when they are reduced. Freezer full of berries. Trying not to eat too much meat but can't turn down beef tenderloin when masked down-or lamb. Freezer cream cheese. Cannot freeze yogurt unless you just use it in smoothies as it has a granular texture. Using my boss and my eyes has kept me and my family from ever having food poisoning -and i am 64 and running half marathons on no meds.
6:26 My grandmother used to do that trick with Cheddar, but as my uncle said. Not a good idea if there’s someone in the home allergic to penicillin. Just FYI.
Tip for everyone that likes cabbage. Wash your cabbage in a 50/50 water/vinegar mix. Don't not have to soak it but make sure the outside is fully cleaned. I kept my cabbage up to 4 months in the refrig this way.

I taught myself to grow herbs to cook with, best thing I ever did. I’ve fresh herbs whenever I want and my garlic is home grown as most of my veggies and ,berries are. Love you videos god bless
more videos like this please! I buy whole spices when I can and crush them in my mortar/pestle as needed - keep them in a darken place away from heat and moisture (stove/sink) keep tightly closed glass is better than plastic - even whole spices/dried herbs will lose their essential oils over a period of time so buy in quantities you use as needed -
Just used four year old can of baked beans and kidney beans last night. I'm a saver but trying to move out the old and move better in and healthier. One thing to add about cans would be to look for expansion of the lids area puffiness which would be pressurization from bacteria, throw those out.
i believe there is an egg test hack to check for freshness... you gently set the egg in a container of water... If it lays heavy and horizontal on the bottom it is a good egg.. if it "stands" vertical but stays at the bottom it is good 'enough'... but if it floats to the top, it is time to throw it away.
We buy expired food at a grocery store that specializes in expired. 85%lean Hamburger $1.00. Jimmy Dean sausage hot or sage $1.00 We freeze it . No produce there. Cereal post $1.50 del Monte apricots 303 can 75 cents peaches 75 cents.
American Test Kitchen explains it is best to keep your butter in the freezer until you are ready to use it, that way it will not pick up any odors or flavors from the refrigerator.
Me & my daughter frequently & purposely ‘test’ the use/sell by dates on food. We have eaten unopened yogurts up-to a year out of date and they have tasted exactly the same. We are currently testing for 15 months out of date. No adverse tummy effects either. Unless it looks bad or smells bad it’s ok to eat!
I confess I buy milk close to expiration date ( not spoiled for sure) , boil it at 220 F and ferment it to yogurt on the cheap. By 2-5 days before expiration, it’s 50-80% off so $2-$3 for a gallon and make 4-5 jars of yogurt. Bread, I only buy freshly baked from yesterday another 50% off and freeze it. I take single slices out of the freezer and toast it in a hot oven.
My supermarket often has the happy eggs at $1.99 because they are close to the sell by date. I go crazy when I see that and buy like 6 packs since we use so many eggs at home.
Wow thanks for your teachings, 7th thousandth year begins soon so Trubulation we will need this information to endure hard times! May YEHOVAH bless all of you!
Lol I'm so glad you made a video on this. As someone who grew up in different countries, I was so shocked at how much food is being thrown away in the US. And don't even get me started on the fruits and vegetables (smh). I was raised with the mindset of recycling and reusing. Something like old bread is the best for french toasts lol😋. Your milk is 3 days expired or just turned sour, make pancakes or use it for baking. Trust your senses, if it doesn't smell funky, looks like it's moldy or doesn't taste bad, it's still good as long as you preserved it correctly. Just like he said use it or freeze it; yes milk, butter, bread, or hard cheese too. Clearance items are the best to save money. The expiration date is more of an advice on best time to use than anything else so yes watch out for it but it doesn't mean you have to toss out your item on that written date. And if you find yourself constantly throwing away expired items maybe it's time for you to buy less or eat more often😄 Please be mindful of the environmental issues that tossing more (expired) food than necessary can create. Thank you👍🏾
You can add a pinch of salt when you first open the carton or before it spoils to extend the life of milk, half & half, and cream for about a week past the expiration date.
My local grocery store has a bunker cooler where they put meat that 'expires' the next day. They slash the price sometimes as much as 60%-75% off. I will load up on steaks, and instead of paying $14.00 to $20.00 per pound, I can get away with $5.00 to $9.00 per pound. When I get home, I season them well and then vacuum seal and date them. Then they go into my freezer until needed. I'll slack out what I need for the next 2-3 days, fire up my sous vide unit, and soon I have a great meal that didn't cost an arm and a leg.
I don’t think what you said about milk is true.. once you open milk it definitely does not last until the sell by date. I have made that mistake many times.
I noticed if I keep my milk on the top near the air blower it lasts twice as long as putting it in the door. Learned milk has to be kept just near freezing.
@@whyistheskyblue5515 I do actually always keep it pretty cold by keeping it towards the back of the fridge but sometimes it accidentally freezes and it throws the texture off. Thanks for the tip tho!
@@whyistheskyblue5515 I’ve noticed that too. I always keep my milk on the top shelf and once opened, it last almost a week after the date. Sometimes with my boys it doesn’t even make it nowhere near the date lol
our grocery don't pay cash, it is consignment. the supplier fulls out near expiry and they recycle it. some expired food will be sold cheap to small store, it is expired for a long time. The content is bad, some resto buys expired too. the cans are swollen n rusty.
Thank you Bobby for the heads up. For the Gluten free pasta keep it in plastic containers that will keep the air out of it and the dust out of it and if you keep it put into zip lock bags in the plastic containers your really safe!!!! Happy days!!!
I know someone who bought canned peaches - she opened the can and it looked terrible - very washed out and grayish looking and soft - she put it on some ice cream and served it to us - I said did you look at the date on the can and she said no - she had just bought it - I thought stores were more careful about leaving old stock on the shelf - she said she would look at the date from then on
Bobby not sure if you will read this but as an idea for business I would suggest creating an app...on the app have different sections of food. Like one for milk bread eggs cereals ...another for frozen foods...another for meats and cheese etc. It would be all Bobby approved items so when we go to trader Joe's we select that store and can see which items to buy approved by you..same for Walmart and whole foods. It won't be easy to create but I would totally pay 3 dollars a month for a server that makes my shopping trips easier and I'm sure other would as well. You could also have recipe section etc. Just though I'd write this.
Bread does not go stale in fridge. I always put my bread in fridge or freezer or I'd be tossing bags weekly. It's freshly baked bread and no big difference, just made garlic bread from a refrigerated week old french loaf.
I love my dehydrator for that. If fruits and vegetables are getting close to expiring and I don't have time to eat them, I dehydrate them to use later.
Thanks for this. I did my first foodbank haul today and some products were past the current date. For example quinoa and mayonaise. I keep my bread in the freezer and only take a certain amount of slices out when needed. Keeps good forever. Yesterday we ate bad broccoli and both got an explosive....number 2. Don't do that.
If I find that there is a spot of mold on bread I cut that all away then cube and toast (dehydrate) the bread for use in stuffing, bread crumbs etc. You can do the same before mold shows up...dont forget can season cubes with your desired taste
This video has me looking forward to this year’s ‘Hurricane Season Haul’ video (Welcome to FL, FlavCity). I start restocking my hurricane food supplies shopping at the mid/end of July and being aware of the product dates is very important.
I buy my bread at a surplus bakery. Basically bread goes there after the sell by date. I buy over 50$ worth for 10$. I keep it the freezer. Works great! All types of bread. Even the organic healthy ones.
Thanks, Bobby! 🤍 your channel and content. Needed this video! Threw out a carton of eggs and I felt so bad. Now, I know I can keep them a little longer 🐣
What I don't understand is the labels that say, Cows are grass fed, all cows are geass fed. We but organic farm raised beef, and the owner from the farm said its all about how they are " finished out" on grain or full grass. ?
I couldn't agree with you more! If you have ever been starving it's amazing what you can eat and how long food will last to keep you alive and how we can eat more parts of vegetables than what recipes say...soups are great for using the entire vegetable!!
Thanks for the video! Just sent it to my boyfriend who has been stocking for the possible apocalypse. I also enjoyed the meat special segment. I buy discounted proteins when on sale and immediately put them in the freezer for fear that they will be unusable if I don’t .
I've eaten eggs that are 8 months old kept in the fridge with no cracks in them. We found 3 huge boxes of eggs in the Planet Organic garbage bin and took them home...what a score!
I've eaten cottage cheese and yogurt 3 weeks past expiration. Clotted cream lasts a long time as does organic goat milk. Ive heard of using colloidal silver to extend the expiration date.
I pointed out a package of smoked salmon that was 8 days past the date, not best by or sell date. I pointed this out to meat manager and got a dirty look. I am picky about my seafood. I'm sure it was put back on the refrigerator shelf.
What about Sauerkraut in a Jar? I buy Aldi's, when I open it is fine. I put it in the frig, when I go to use more it is Moldy, yet an older Kraut from the same Brand is not Moldy. I always use a clean Stainless Steel Fork to remove a few Tablespoons. Why does it Mold?
The expiration date on protein powder is for the flavoring more than anything. The protein itself is fine way beyond the expiration date, just might not taste as good.
I spent 10 years in meat packing. I would not be afraid to keep the vacuum packed beef and chicken shown as much as two weeks past the use by date. However, once the seal is broken, and oxygen gets to the meat, I would use it within 1 to 2 days. Meat that is not vacuum packed should be used by the "use by date," unless you are brave.
That's exactly where my bread goes in the coldest part of the refrigerator or freezer, lasts for months in the fridge and many more in the freezer. It's plenty fresh to my tastes and zero waste.
According to the foodbanks, milk lasts another 2 weeks after the sellby date. I also know how to make quark, a delicious form of cheese. Similar situation with eggs. No need to get rid of it, just use it up
Your comment about smoked paprika being your all-time favorite spice caught my attention. Could you tell us why? Maybe I'll have to start using mine more often.

Freezing Bread is the best thing since Sliced Bread!!
I put my bread in the freezer as soon as I buy it regardless of the date. 😂
@@Grazie7 Same! As soon as I get home from the grocery store, I toss it in the freezer! It tastes the same either way.. so why not
Morning Bobby! Yes it’s a big problem. Thanks for always putting out great videos!!
We are new to this diet. You have changed our life. Your UA-cam has helped my husband's sugar in his bloodiest go from diabetic to under diabetic down 6 points in a few weeks. His was self induced. Too much sugar. Do you have a list of the bad ingredients all in one spot where we can make sure we are not going towards the bad stuff.
Thank you so much for all you do for us.
Dairy in plastic containers such as cottage cheese & yogurt stays fresher longer after opening if stored upside down in the fridge.
True
Thanks 👍 I will try that.
I do that with berries so that the ones on the bottom don't collect all the moisture. I just flipped them over once or twice a day and they don't usually get the fuzzies before I eat them up.
So good to know, any reason why this trick works?
@@DivinevirgoFeminine it probably keeps the air from getting to it keeping more bacteria out.
I put my bread in fridge the moment I buy it, and never had a problem with it, even after being expired for a couple of days
Forever
The frig cannnn change the consistency of breads. Most of my breads keep for weeks on the counter inside a green box.
Freezing bread doesn't change the texture or dry it out at all and it will last forever!
Same. Bread in the fridge, extra loaf in the freezer. Never have moldy bread again :)
@@TheGeekMonster But when I put the loaf of bread in fridge, it drys out.

One of my best video so far, I do not trow away food easily but I just learned more. So let's save some money. Thank you very much.

If milk gets sour don't throw out-make pancakes or biscuits.
Yogurt can last way past the expiration date, just use in baking.
No edit button. Sell by date using nose and eyes- not boss
Your supermarket is another world. Never saw any of those food products in mine.
Just wanted to leave a comment saying that I know this is an old video but I have been watching you guys regularly over the years and I think I speak for all the other lazy typist, when I say , your doing a great job, love your stuff and I hope you guys can get more sponsors and we can continue to click on the links and support the channel. I taught myself to grow herbs to cook with, best thing I ever did. I’ve fresh herbs whenever I want and my garlic is home grown as most of my veggies and ,berries are. Love you videos god bless
more videos like this please! I buy whole spices when I can and crush them in my mortar/pestle as needed - keep them in a darken place away from heat and moisture (stove/sink) keep tightly closed glass is better than plastic - even whole spices/dried herbs will lose their essential oils over a period of time so buy in quantities you use as needed -
Great information!! My 7 yr old granddaughter love’s watching Rosie cook. Your video’s are fun and informative.
Expired plain yogurt makes amazing sour cream!
Nice!
Oh for sure!
it lasts SO LONGGG
Why expired? We only use plain yogurt for sour cream. One less thing to keep up with 😉
I add milk to the tail end of my yogurt and kefir and give it a good Shake. 1 to 2 days later I've got more of the same!
Good thing this video doesn’t have an expiration date!
Too funny!!!
Save it with a free UA-cam Downloader to you PC. I save all my good videos this way.
The hard cheeses wrap them tightly in wax paper after opening last longer after opening
I got very sick eating expired yogurt so that’s one thing I never eat passed the date. Thank you 🙏 for the info
Would love to hear thoughts on the proper storage and longevity of butter.
And if you find yourself constantly throwing away expired items maybe it's time for you to buy less or eat more often😄
Please be mindful of the environmental issues that tossing more (expired) food than necessary can create. Thank you👍🏾
You can add a pinch of salt when you first open the carton or before it spoils to extend the life of milk, half & half, and cream for about a week past the expiration date.
I love the way Brad just there like a body garde !😂🥰 good job Bobby! Thank you very much!
I notice in the summer months it doesnt last as long but winter def lasts longer after opening
Thank you, Bobby! I was always so confussed about the dating on products.
our grocery don't pay cash, it is consignment. the supplier fulls out near expiry and they recycle it. some expired food will be sold cheap to small store, it is expired for a long time.
Toss in bay leaves too. Keeps bugs out
I know someone who bought canned peaches - she opened the can and it looked terrible - very washed out and grayish looking and soft - she put it on some ice cream and served it to us - I said did you look at the date on the can and she said no - she had just bought it - I thought stores were more careful about leaving old stock on the shelf - she said she would look at the date from then on
GRACIAS maravilloso muy Buenos concejos que bien GRACIAS por la ayuda financiera en estos dias dificiles , saludable dia
Expired bread makes great toast. Freeze it, wrapping each couple of slices in plastic wrap and then back into the bag.
Huge mistakes I've done.. such a waste of money.. i swear it'll never happens again.. thank you so much for sharing this info
Hard cheese lasts for ages. Wash with white vinegar and wrap tightly.
I will buy a couple of the shelf stable milks just to have on hand in case of a long power outage, it has come in handy more than once.
A lot of things supposedly expire. We still eat or use them. I'd suggest though using caution with dairy!
I pointed out a package of smoked salmon that was 8 days past the date, not best by or
sell date.
What about the expiration date on protein powders? Great information you provided here. I’m definitely going to take it and put it into use!
Questions I have had for years! Thanks for clearing up so many unanswered questions!
According to the foodbanks, milk lasts another 2 weeks after the sellby date. I also know how to make quark, a delicious form of cheese.
Similar situation with eggs. No need to get rid of it, just use it up
Please do a video about the difference between the packaged meats and the meats in the butcher section. And why the packaged buys last longer.
Your comment about smoked paprika being your all-time favorite spice caught my attention. Could you tell us why? Maybe I'll have to start using mine more often.
