Ignore anyone that's says bullshit like, "well why didn't you..." Absolute keyboard warriors, every little bit helps especially with our ocean! Thank you! Awesome video as always.
Great video, i love seeing freedivers in the same city as me and finding new diving spots!! It's crazy how quick i recognize the first spot, right in my neighborhood!!! Keep up the good work.
So glad you are safe! This last month I had 2 other friends, get in accidents, that could've taken their lives. So I'm thankful. YT halted my ability to comment, for 5 days...that's a first for me, and no reason why they did it, but like FB, they will be forced to not be biased lol.
That was me. I blocked you from commenting. Jk of course! Haha. Yeah man, people are crazy on the roads. I keep getting my comments removed. Or responses I should say. I think one for the word g - u - n and another for the word g - r - a - v - e. Both said in non threatening ways. It's ridiculous.
@PNWSamson absolutely it's the words, even if meant in good terms, it's the shadow stuff lol, and if you did it, why couldn't I comment on beardmeatsfood, Fox, itchyboots, etc...hahaha cheers you looked cold, and I've had 7 tetanus shots, every 5 yrs, since I put a rusty nail through my foot, at age 16...almost due for another. It was so gross, very thankful you didn't loose your eye!!
Still watching your videos on my tv, always like them but not comment because on my tv, U have always been awesome at cleaning up old traps and garbage 🗑 on the sea floor so I speak for many and thank you!! Keep up the great work.
Thanks brother. I still wanna collaborate one day. You carve a crab and I catch one. That would be epic. Hope life is well man! Stoked to see you're still around.
Great content. I've done 50 or 60 scuba dives, some in the PNW and the calmness of submersion compared to the surface is the greatest feeling. Thanks for posting!
Haha thanks man. And yeah, totally. Hopefully my new found appreciation of life is long lived. Have you ever watched a documentary and changed your habits? I have, but usually after a month I'm back to my old routine. I really gotta stop stressing about things I can control. Tomorrow is not promised.
Love watching your content, so happy to also live in the PNW as it's so amazing. Taking care of the environment really connects with me so thanks for doing another dive where you clean. Hearing the whales must have been a truly impactful experience. Keep up the great work.
The mighty Blake! What's up dude. We should do some lure missions in your home turf one day. The greenling was bomb. You are my inspiration for the solo stove! That thing is amazing.
Huh? Well there's another thing we have in common aside for a deep love for the Ocean (and water in general), my Uncle who sadly passed away last year was a veteran of the Canadian Air Force, he flew in the sixties and spent most of his time over in West Germany. When he left the CAF he took a job as a navigator for Canadian Airlines and moved up to Captain a few years after that. He stayed with the company until they dissolved. His family live in Tsawwassen which explains where I was in the very early 90's when I worked up at North Shore Studios. Nice to see the kids, both of them growing like weeds, pretty soon they'll be graduating High School and off to University, and it does tend to fly by that quickly. Good on you for once again cleaning up the line, lead and plastic you do good work Chris!! Take care, I look forward to seeing where you dive next!!! Cheers - Dave
Ah crazy man! They could have flown together. What was his name? We moved to Tsawwassen from Nova Scotia in 1990. I was only two weeks old at the time. My dad flew for EPA, Canadian and eventually Air Canada once they merged in 2000/2001. And man, I can't believe how old my kids are getting. Zy turned 4 yesterday and Sayla is half way through kindergarten.
Another amazing video Chris! Nice work with the lures, I'm sure Clay (aquaticmonkey) is proud 😁 I'm super bummed that I couldn't make the wreck dive, however I love how the vids turned out and you guys had a fantastic dive 🩵 So happy you are safe & sound and I'll catch ya on the next dive
Thanks! Too bad, would have been awesome If you made it. There will always be more though so don't stress. Which I know you are not haha. Next time!! 🤙🙂
Beautiful spots! That wreck looks like SO much fun! Wish we had more stuff like that on the mainland. Swim throughs are so much fun. Respect for getting out there on the cold day! It's always tough to make that decision on a day off but it's pretty much always worth it. Good on you for cleaning up the ocean too!
Haha thanks brother. And I agree! Sometimes I wake up and wonder what I'm doing to myself. In all my dives I've only regretted a trip once or twice. 99.99% of the time I'm so grateful I stuck it out and didn't bail. The cold is temporary, the memories and good times stick with me forever.
Yeah, no doubt! I've yet to meet someone who has got tetanus. Doesn't sound like fun at all. Survival also doesn't mean the same quality of life going forward. Definitely good to spread the word!
I find it amazing to see the difference in the body structure of sea lions above and below the waterline. When they’re flubbing themselves across the rocks looking like uncoordinated blobs it’s like, ooh, I can outrun you, but when you see them underwater and they suddenly turn into fine tuned middleweights it’s like …oh shit I’m glad you don’t see me as prey cause, no contest.
Haha I agree. They are sneaky little athletes. I wish I could dive with half their breath hold and a fraction of their grace. They have a bad rep, they need a better public relations team haha.
Love the channel bro! I followed your affiliate link and bought the x4 💪🏽 It didn’t come with the free stick so I am worried it didn’t reward you for the buy.. but wanted to support!
Great videos man i have buddys like you kind of bitter and negative about stuff but sone of the smartest most realistic people i know they call it how they see it and don’t give in to anyones bullshit kind of reclusive but good dudes. Im from Campbell River and obviously grew up fishing losing tons of lures and hooks over the years so crazy to see the damage they all do. I live in Kelowna now last 9 years if you ever need window tint while up here let me know no charge. Have you ever thought of diving okanagan lake or kalamaka while up here?
Thanks bro that's an amazing offer. I'm flying up this time but if I'm ever around I might take you up on that haha. Still trying to figure out if that vehicle is a right off or not. It's looking that way... I'd love to dive on Okanogan Lake and target invasive carp. Find a wildlife rehabilitation centre and donate all the food to birds of prey. That would be a fun mission. I also appreciate your insights. I'm a nice enough person, genuine. But I'm just negative and can't control my anger at times. Our oceans are fucked and it's hard to stay positive. I could be all happy go lucky about finding fishing gear and probably gain way more subs but that's not how I feel in the moment. Apparently Jacques Cousteau was very bitter and negative later in life. I feel his pain.
Hey man! I just moved to Nanaimo. Also just copped a wet suit. I'm new to all these harvesting, fishing, free diving things because I'm from the mainland so never got to do it growing up. Now that I'm here, I want to learn as much as possible. Any chance we could chat more?
Yeah dude for sure. Shoot me a message on Instagram. pnwsamson. I feel like a lot of people are in your shoes. It would be nice to get a solid community going in Nanaimo. Have group potlucks and all that.
I live across the Salish Sea, in Whatcom County, Washington USA. I wonder what the coasts are like here. Probably similar. I've just never been brave enough to go into our oceans. And we also have Red Tide VERY OFTEN.
I'd imagine we deal with the same issues. Red tide is often seasonal when the water temps increase and the algae starts to bloom. We have closures all around our coast too. Some seasonal, some permanent due to industry. BC and Washington virtually look identical underwater. I have a video from Edmonds marine park in Washington and a few from Lopez Island.
That's a great idea. I've had one in my vehicle for a few years and have yet to use it. Clayton found it on a dock piling one day and hooked it up. I'll try it next time.
@@Imakulak That's true. Spoons and all that. Hooks are designed to rust away pretty quickly by design. In case a fish ingests a hook or it breaks free in its mouth. Most of the lures I found didn't have a hook left or they were rusted to smithereens. Still a great idea though and I'll give it a go. Thanks!
Yeah, some people speculated humpbacks due to the deeper noise. I know some killer whales had gone through Dodd narrows earlier in the day. The time would line up with when we were in the water. Still haven't got firm confirmation! Apparently when you hear noise it means they are not actively hunting as they try and sneak up on prey.
Oceans clean up also collects debris from the oceans they make the garbage into sun glasses that are also taggable so sunglasses can be re-found again, they make that gear, then should be able to put a tracker on it. Our Biggest Trash Catch Ever & More: The Ocean Cleanup 2024 in Review ua-cam.com/video/T2FNqfpdHV8/v-deo.html
Thanks! The cost to retrieve the gear would probably make it not feasible. Great idea but I think elimination is the best option. Throwing trash into the ocean is illegal, not sure why a blind eye is always turned when it comes to fishing. Biodegradable options shouldn't be a best practice, should be regulation imo. But I don't hate the player, just the game.
I posted that on the Vancouver Island Freediving, Spearfishing and Snorkeling group. There are also Freedive BC and Snorkelers of BC. A bunch of great community groups.
Haha true. I don't recoup a fraction of what I spend to make a video. It's all for the love though. Better to spend money on enjoying life than drugs n alcohol. Hope your well man!
Make sure you do a police report. The reason is you have to do everything you can to find the other driver. Insurance will screw you over if you don't do anything to find the person. No fault doesn't mean they wont screw you over.
Yea dude totally. The entire situation is all messed up. We drove back on Jasmine's grandparents insurance. It's confusing. I believe with a hit and run you are only responsible for the deductible. Still $1000 but at least we are covered and no one's insurance rates will go up. Plus, I'm alive. Such a pain. I made a police report about 40 mins after the accident.

a magnet might make lures easier to pick up
