@@Wally97523 Hi, thanks for the reference to Eric's autobiography. I have read it, and still have the book. One of the better-written celebrity biographies I have read. I can't entirely agree with some of his political views, but Eric has given me and millions of others enormous pleasure from the mid-sixties to date with his brilliant talents on guitar, songwriting as well as great collaborations with other very talented artists.
Did not mention the profound sadness Eric felt when Jeff Beck unexpectedly died. A great friend of his since the mid 1960’s and at times rivals which made there relationship complicated; however, they shared the stage with one another from time to time for 6 decades and did a World Tour together in 2010. Eric arranged a tribute concert for Jeff and also released a single of him and Jeff playing “Moon River”. Eric is a class act! He has said and done ridiculous things just like the rest of us. A perfectionist, a purist and absolute ambassadors for his profession. I follow him and have 52 years. You would have to be a very specific kind of idiot to not see that. As for his shows….he is a very humble guy and prefers not to be out going crazy on stage, it’s just not his deal.

@@earthbound9381 At age 72, I agree with your description as a beacon to the old timers. When I saw the title of this post, I thought he had died. Even after watching the video I wasn’t sure that he was alive so I went online in and looked. Not only is he still alive he’s on tour. I live in Southern Oregon and the nearest concert on this tour is at the Hollywood Bowl. I bought a ticket and I’m going to see him for the second time on October 12. I wanted to stay at the Cecil hotel but it was booked solid. I’m going to stay at a cheap motel in Bakersfield, the first night, then go to the concert and return to Bakersfield for the second night. Then I’m going to head back home from there. I really don’t have the money for this, but I fear this may be his last tour.
Yes Clapton has had his share of troubles but unlike most of us mere boring mortals he's lived possibly 4 or 5 lives and is leaving an exceptional musical legacy behind him. He's lucky or unlucky whichever you prefer but he's still there and making history.
Shame to hear about Eric's health. Sometime around 1962 I was with my sister and cousin in a cafe in Kingston. They kept looking over the other side. When we left I asked why and they told me it was Eric Clapton. I shrugged my shoulders, never heard of him ! I was broken up about Connor though. I neither believed that either Connor or Eric desereved that. Old age gets you though, it is with me !
I found out age 14 that my parents were my grandparents. That summer i went to stay with my biological mother and when it came to the conversation about my adoption her first words were and i quote “i will never be your mother, consider myself your mother or act as your mother”..right there i knew my life would never be the same especially as when i returned home my adopted father changed and basically turned his back on me in so many ways. Three years later when my adopted mother went to visit her family, literally five minutes he said you’ve got two weeks to find somewhere to live. In 1999 i fell over in the front room landing on him where he hit his head cutting it..after i went up to the local shop he phoned the police and i got three and a half years in prison. He died while i was in there and my biological mother visited me gloating and laughing at my situation. My mother (grandmother) served in WW2 and was a very special human being and the greatest woman I’ve ever known right next to my wife, she cried many times saying I’m so sorry you went away for something you never did
I remember the day I bought the just released “cream“ album. it’s impossible to describe the excitement and love that people had for this album, which changed rock ‘n’ roll forever.
Love Clapton my favorite artist going throughout trials and tribulations in his life. Like all of us he endures and I believe that now that he has faith ever since the tragedy of his son. God bless you. Saw you three times. Hope to see you again
I feel bad for Eric. His contemporaries are, sadly, dying around him. He’s becoming the last man standing of one of the most important periods of the development of rock and blues-rock music.
God Bless you Eric......I've been with you from the 1960's but never knew of all the problems you have endured!! Never stop and NEVER LET THE OLE MAN IN!!
Eric, like the Beatles and Buffalo Springfield and Traffic gave us Boomers the hope we needed and the principles we still live by--Republicans for Harris
i was 17 and traveled to nyc to see the mothers of invention, but they were sold out and someone suggested to go next door to cafe a go go and hear the debut of cream in america,, needless to say their performance was breathtaking and clapton became a near god to me----the memories have never left me
He is a great guy I flowed his career, since he was a young man, we were all a bit crazy 50 something years ago Im an old guy myself now. please let him do what he enjoys, whatever it may be, just love what he has achieved since he was a young man.
Eric Clapton was asked how does feel to be the best Guitar player of all time? He said i don't know. Ask Prince!! From Kathleen M. Sheehan M.D.,retired Army Veteran from New England U.S.A.
Love your Music ever since you played with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker Cream was the band that brought me round to loving the blues and the pure rock sound You will be my number one guitarist of all time and I Thankyou for giving me the chance to hearing your unique sound God bless you Eric the Ace One player of all time 👌🎶🎶🎸🎶🎶👍.
He is the only performer I ever spent the night camped out to get tickets. I was able to see him in 1974 or 1975 at the HIC Auditorium in Honolulu. He was amazing and his band was superb. Yvonne Elliman, who was from Hawaii, along with Marcy Levy were his singers and Elliman was a big hit when she turned around on stage to show a pineapple on the back of her black satin jacket. When they did Badge it was a showstopper. A spectacular evening.
Birds in SPACE. . ! Oh YEA BABY, listening, & hear'n such masterful work's by Slow Hand, Sir Eric Clapton himself. . Thank you for all your amazing creations. . !
That 1st Cream album changed my life as a young teenager. I started playing the drums and dreamed of being a successful musician. Never happened due to booze and drugs, and at 65 I stopped playing due to physical problems. I miss that feeling of joy and my admiration for Eric Clapton remains in my heart. Thank you, sir.
I grew up listening to this man's music. Whether I love him or hate him doesn't matter. He went through all the changes that many of us go through in our lives and came out a better person in my opinion. It's also, in my opinion, unquestionable that he has become a rock music legend over the last 60 decades.
So sad that he has been tortured by his walking past where his son had fallen when failing to accept what might have happened is 100% natural and understandable. In his book, he mentioned that a fellow participant in a 12 step program told him that his not relapsing after the tragedy was inspiring to the point of leading to her maintaining sobriety.
I saw Clapton in the mid to late 70s he stood with his back to the audience for the whole concert, I was so disappointed in one of the few musicians I loved to listen to.
Those were the dark days. I too saw him in the 1970s. He appeared angry and closed off. He would do "long" solo riffs, and at one point his other guitarist took off on his own solo riff. Clapton came over and chewed him out. I thought he was going to fire him on the spot, in front of an enormous audience The poor guitarist just stood there and took it. What else could he do? Clapton was an asshole that night and I "personally" would have punched him out and walked off stage.
For enduring all he has is truly amazing. He is what I believe to be the best singer songwriter and musician I have come to know and love to hear. GOD BLESS THE MAN!!
I love it when these celebrities discover that life is not a cakewalk. Now all of society seems to have become aware of how life has not catered to them. Time to get over ourselves. Everybody’s life is filled with trials and challenges. You either fail or overcome them and get on with life; and also get over yourself. None of us is the centre of the universe.
I was absolutely delighted to read your post with the use of the Phrase ; "Cakewalk" As Booker Ervin and Don Patterson composed a somber Blues theme with that very phrase christened " The Hip Cakewalk" I had a " very minor " injury - I was T-Boned in an intersection in my van, and the car that hit me sent me " Sailing " on a 45 degree angle across that intersection crashing straight into a telephone pole. The dashboard of my van had caved in and crushed my right leg. The doctor treated me to a surgery that placed a stainless rod in the marrow of my right Femor [ the largest bone in the human body] The doctors put me to sleep ( general anesthesia) -and I solomnly swear. - I heard Don Patterson and old Booker Ervin playing " The Hip Cakewalk" They sounded damn good
With all respect to Eric, he wasn’t the great celebrity he became at the time his problems began. You can’t round up and brand people like that. What are you really saying? You are jealous of famous people. You seem to assume they need to be humbled.
@@peterobrien1499 not in the least. The same trials and tribulations apply to everyone in life. Celebrity status grants no exception and actually can present greater obstacles that come with greater rewards. It’s called life. I am hardly jealous of famous people. I would not have wanted to live Michael Jackson’s life. In spite of fame, fortune, and immense talent, I felt sorry for the crap that also came his way. Like everyone else he did the best he could. He did not need to be humbled or falsely accused or to die like he did. Your pathetic attempt to attack me in no way absolves anyone of doing his best in life; famous or unknown like you; and me.
@Play-gl2yw Yep - imagine being so oblivious that you’d presume to lecture somebody about ‘real life’’ after they’d lost a young child to a fall out of a window. Talk about detachment from reality.
Eric Clapton's gift of being in my opinion the greatest guitarist ever, produced so many difficulties for him. We can never overlook the pressures of fame. I first experienced his brilliance when I bought the Derek and the Dominos album containing "Layla" in 1971. And we can never forget his performance of "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" at the George Harrison tribute in Royal Albert Hall in 2002. The pressures and temptations of fame, and the income it provides, almost always produce some form of substance abuse. In any event, he is a master of music, of the guitar, and I deeply hope that peace is with him. Thank you Eric Clapton for the great music you have left for us. I am so sorry for the terrible losses that have befallen you.
I think Eric Clapton is the greatest musician EVER.!!!!! I'll always be grateful that I was fortunate enough to grow up listening to him. I'm 76 and I have known no other artist that effects my life and thoughts like him. I know he has done the same for millions of us. I sincerely believe a national holiday on his name should be considered, or at least a statue in his honor should be erected. LOVE HIM!!!!!
I have seen Mick and Rory quite a few times each, live at the Marquee and Clapton at Sunbury and the Albert hall. I loved all of their performances, but if I had to, I would place . 1. Hendrix, although sadly I never saw him live. 2 . Clapton 3. Page/ SRV/ Green/ Beck/ And others only just slightly lower and almost as good and on the same platform. A lot of times it is about the Performances at the time.
I can relate to Eric's comments about his son and understand his initial reaction. He certainly has no need to feel ashamed, his reaction is a reflection of the depth of loss, so great that you reject it as not being possible to live with. When I was told at the hospital that my 16 year old daughter had not survived a knife attack at school I wanted to capture the words from the doctor's mouth and put them back where they came from. Then I was desperate to see her because they must have made a mistake. The quick senseless death of someone who you cherish and would give your life for is devastating at the time and they never leave you.
I think some youngsters are very introverted and may have few friends. They turn to music and spend hours a day practicing isolated. Peter Townshend said learning the guitar made him accepted and popular. The Beatles thought it would help them meet girls. They transform from geeks to "gods." That's a big emotional range.

He has grown to become an icon of musical fame and his music and performances over the years especially the guitar festivals will rank him in the top rankings of performers in my mind.
I Know That I Have Stated This Many Times In The Past 33 Years, But, . . . Rest In Peace, Precious Soul Connor Clapton . . .
So glad he managed to be born, with his amazing talents. And that his grandparents gave him that first guitar.
You did not talk about Eric's adverse reaction to the pandemic shot he received. This is a critical oversight regarding his current health status. 😲
I'V LOVED Eric for many years. He has a talent that no one else on earth has.I love to watch him play the love of his life his lady Fender. Please never stop playing her
Thank you for the insight into Erics life.
I shall pray for Eric tonight. He is a beacon to old timers who like electric music
Sad that giving us so much joy with his songs he has to pay such a heavy price.
Mostly self-inflicted!
@@JeanLeite-d1e let me spin that for you …. “ ..and enjoyed a wonderful life of privilege, not devoid of the pain we all suffer.”
He will be rocking all the way to Rock and Roll Heaven and even when he gets there he's going to be rocking still
Sorry. There is NO rock and roll heaven. Just Heaven with Jesus or hell with satan.
Yes Clapton has had his share of troubles but unlike most of us mere boring mortals he's lived possibly 4 or 5 lives and is leaving an exceptional musical legacy behind him. He's lucky or unlucky whichever you prefer but he's still there and making history.
Sad... not long ago, he already said, that he regretted getting "vaccinated"... 😪
It affected his hands -- he was afraid he couldn't play again. Coming out about this, Rolling Stone and many others trashed him.
That's really lousy of other people . Really!!!
One of the greatest guitarists of our lives
Clapton's had a very good life compared to a lot of poor people including me.
Yes he's lived a life most people only dreamed of, it's a shame what happened to his son but tragedy can hit anyone, it's called life.
You shouldn’t have chosen to be poor.
Great Documentary but they left out
His Supreme Album with
Blind faith
God Speed Mr Clapton.
Perhaps it looks that way from the outside, but he was basically a long time alcoholic, and the life of an alcoholic is hell.
@@davidtrindle6473 Who's fault is it that he was an alcoholic, and a drug addict,it was his fault.
Born in 1945 when all the soldiers came home with love looks in their eyes...Van Morrison (and me) :)😊
Yep, sure was Hard Nose the Highway 😉
(Me and Van the Man 😊)
Shame to hear about Eric's health.
Have loved his music from the beginning of his career. I've loved hearing him live. His music touches my heart...
My mother (grandmother) served in WW2 and was a very special human being and the greatest woman I’ve ever known right next to my wife, she cried many times saying I’m so sorry you went away for something you never did
I used to watch him play with Cream at the Riki Tik Guildford when I was a teenager
One of the first albums I bought was the Yardbirds with Clapton, that was over fifty years ago! Damn I feel old!
My favourite artist, love the music, thanks Eric
I feel bad for Eric. His contemporaries are, sadly, dying around him. He’s becoming the last man standing of one of the most important periods of the development of rock and blues-rock music.
Keith Richard will be the last man standing, sustained by rocket fuel and cigarettes and the blues....
Eric Clapton is the music of blues
God Bless you Eric......I've been with you from the 1960's but never knew of all the problems you have endured!! Never stop and NEVER LET THE OLE MAN IN!!
Good documentary. Thank you for making it. Well done
Eric also suffered the loss of the helicopter crash killing 3 of his people and my friend and Blues Legend, Stevie Ray Vaughan.💔
Eric, like the Beatles and Buffalo Springfield and Traffic gave us Boomers the hope we needed and the principles we still live by--Republicans for Harris
i was 17 and traveled to nyc to see the mothers of invention, but they were sold out and someone suggested to go next door to cafe a go go and hear the debut of cream in america,, needless to say their performance was breathtaking and clapton became a near god to me----the memories have never left me
The camera clicking sound after every photo change is distracting and annoying. Please delete it.
He is a great guy I flowed his career, since he was a young man, we were all a bit crazy 50 something years ago Im an old guy myself now. please let him do what he enjoys, whatever it may be, just love what he has achieved since he was a young man.
Eric, has always stood tall during the good and bad. He continues to soar..
Eric Clapton was asked how does feel to be the best Guitar player of all time? He said i don't know. Ask Prince!! From Kathleen M. Sheehan M.D.,retired Army Veteran from New England U.S.A.
Another program where the headline caption is misleading. It's NOT SAD NEWS, it's called Living One's Life!! Cut the BS heading.
I have loved his music for 50 years. Still do! Play on slow hand
Eric is the soul of all music lovers.
Prayers for you dear man
He's definitely a significant rock music contributing person. But what a messy life he's had. 😢
I lived in Richmond, followed Eric all over London and still a big fan.
Barry Parkinson
ERIC HAS SLIPPED AWAY TO GO DANCE ON THE WIND BECAUSE LOVE NEVER DIES. THOSE WHO GIVE YOU A BAD TIME WILL BE SURPRISED WHEN IT HAPPENS TO THEM.
Only a few can stand the heath of over exposure and the industry squeezes you like a lemon I say this as a independent musician just doing my thing 😅
@@gpmcfm He’s a narcissist. Plain as that.
Thanks for the greatest joy in our lives God Bless and keep you safe.
Just simply a great artist that has always captivated me with all his musical artistry
For enduring all he has is truly amazing. He is what I believe to be the best singer songwriter and musician I have come to know and love to hear. GOD BLESS THE MAN!!
Fascinating. Thank you!
I was absolutely delighted to read your post with the use of the Phrase ; "Cakewalk"
As Booker Ervin and Don Patterson composed a somber Blues theme with that very phrase christened " The Hip Cakewalk"
I had a " very minor " injury - I was T-Boned in an intersection in my van, and the car that hit me sent me " Sailing " on a 45 degree angle across that intersection crashing straight into a telephone pole.
The dashboard of my van had caved in and crushed my right leg.
The doctor treated me to a surgery that placed a stainless rod in the marrow of my right Femor [ the largest bone in the human body]
The doctors put me to sleep ( general anesthesia) -and I solomnly swear. - I heard Don Patterson and old Booker Ervin playing " The Hip Cakewalk"
They sounded damn good
I’m pretty sure the Eric Clapton is well aware of that.
@Play-gl2yw
Yep - imagine being so oblivious that you’d presume to lecture somebody about ‘real life’’ after they’d lost a young child to a fall out of a window.
Talk about detachment from reality.
Thanks for the music EC !😊
Loved the man❤
Amen still mourong the loss of my beloved Wayngel+ 5 yewrs later hoping ge will walk in that door!
One of the greatest guitar players
No, that was Rory Gallagher and Mick Taylor
have you heard Glenn Campbell ??
@@raphaelkavanagh6950 man I love Glen Campbell and play a couple of his songs
I have seen Mick and Rory quite a few times each, live at the Marquee and Clapton at Sunbury and the Albert hall.
I loved all of their performances, but if I had to, I would place .
1. Hendrix, although sadly I never saw him live.
2 . Clapton
3. Page/ SRV/ Green/ Beck/
And others only just slightly lower and almost as good and on the same platform.
A lot of times it is about the Performances at the time.
Hes always been the man
Gosh, to have the world and then to incrementally loose it. Bless him. A hell of a cruel journey. By the way, this is probably just about all of ours.
Love Eric Clapton! 🙏 ❤️ 🙏
Amazing story of DETERMINATION! THANKS
Old news and he's still a legend 😍
No news here…
He’s shady as fuck
Too true
I feel awful for AC's childhood, that would be hard. No wonder he is a master of the blues.
I wish I could reach Eric again. I need help in my rainforest bird sanctuary..Aloha
I am deeply sorry for your loss.
I think some youngsters are very introverted and may have few friends. They turn to music and spend hours a day practicing isolated. Peter Townshend said learning the guitar made him accepted and popular. The Beatles thought it would help them meet girls.
They transform from geeks to "gods." That's a big emotional range.
Being a famous and talented artist.....must be so hard to be grounded.....The price they pay is so so hard. Blaze on super star!
Yes they are all rocking tigether !
Learning a d believing we will be rejoined in God's world and will all rock togrther!
A great story of Eric Clapton's life .
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also my dad is a huge Eric Clapton fan ❤😊
Great summary of Clapton's life. But that camera shutter "click" is really annoying!
Thank you for the music, Eric. Will pray for you. There is forgiveness and healing in Jesus.
