Hi! Great video. I have around 20K~ hours in Cata alone. (OG retail and multiple private servers over the years.) With a big part of that being maining warlock in PVE. I could provide some additional information for those few who are interested but have never played Cataclysm warlock. I am, by no means an absolute, total expert, but I have did a fair bit of research and put a lot of time into playing this class. 1. If you decide to play Warlock in pve, prepare to practice your snapshotting. It is used on every single spec, and can make or break your dps. It is very important to get good snapshots. 2. All three specs are PVE viable, but 99,9999% it's either gonna be Affliction or Demonology, if you feel like being competitive. Affliction for, obviously, cleave or long multi-target fights. But I have seen some skilled affliction locks do some serious ST dps as well. And Demonology for ST / Burst AOE situations. Destruction is... Well, far more simple, and can do some /okay/ cleave with Bane of Havoc, but it is, as one would say 'Jack of all trades, master of none.' 3. Demonology warlocks also use what's called mastery snapshot before pull. = Gather gear with as much mastery as possible, and set up 2 item sets. One is with mastery gear, the other is with your normal gear. And before pull (1-2 seconds) You use your mastery gear, pop everything, including meta and swap back into the normal gear. Metamorphosis snapshots the mastery value and can give you some ridiculous % damage boosts. But, it can also mean that if you do this late, it can brick you completely for the rest of the fight. (No hit%, no haste%... often even non-int items). 4. Demonology warlocks have 3 major variations of spec that I know of / I played. Shadowbolt filler spec that's very, very slightly better on multi target but with slightly more complex rotation (Switching to Incinerate when Molten Core procs, + You play with Glyph of Corruption for occasional instant SB procs.) Then there's Incinerate spec that pretty much just eliminates the complexity of SB spec at the trade off of very small dps difference. (You Swap Glyph of Corruption for Incinerate). And a variation of Incinerate spec, that takes away 2 talent points out of Improved Corruption and instead puts them into Doom and Gloom talent which Improves Bane of Doom crit chance. (That dot by itself can have some disgusting crits if snapshotted right. But on its own, since Demo doesn't really stack crit, the crit chance is pretty low. 5. Demonology actually weaves between demons during the rotation! For burst, You use Fel Guard, for the Demon Soul Buff (And felstorm), And then, You shadowburn-swap into Fel Hunter because it simply beats Felguard in Single target damage. Yes, that means, when your cooldowns (and procs) are coming up again, Demonology hard-cast-summons Felguard again for the Demon Soul buff, and repeats the process. 6. All three specs benefit (but are not forced to) being in the melee range so they can weave in Shadowflame. 7. You very rarely actually get to use Fel Flame. There are instances, but more often than not, Warlocks take use of the movement time to squeeze in a life tap or two when needed. 8. Affliction Warlock has by far the best execute phase of all three specs. Not only you get 12% bonus damage bellow 25% health for basically all your spells, your Drain Soul also does double the damage bellow 25% health. Drain Soul, Haunt and Drain Life refreshes your Corruption with each tick. (With a good Corruption snapshot, you're peachy with Corruption for the rest of the fight.) *A good Demonology Warlock would still probably pull ahead, simply just because of how good their single target is. 9. And one more thing, Alysrazor flying. Affli only. But so much fun! That fight by itself would convince you to learn Affliction.
Can you explain for a noob (not me of course) what snapshotting is? From point 3, I can gather it is to do with changing gear in order to maximise the buff output from mastery by changing gear, but is snapshotting like this in general? I've mained warlock since I started in OG WotLK, but back then I had no clue what I was doing.
@@PoorWax Sure! Snapshotting, as simple as possible: Unlike modern wow, When you cast a spell, let's say in this case, Immolate, the game takes a 'snapshot' of your stats at the moment of you casting them. IE: You have 100% crit chance, that 100% crit chance will remain applied to Immolate for the entirety of the dots duration, even if the buff falls off. This applies to everything. Crit, Haste, % damage bonuses, spell power, etc. So, you practically try to make your dots as powerful as they can be by casting them when you have as many buffs up as possible. About the Point 3. Your mastery increases the damage of your demons, as well as the Bonus % damage you get from your Metamorphosis. So, you stack as much mastery as possible, and same like with dots, the game takes a snapshot of your mastery, and that bonus damage % stays for the entirety of duration of your Metamorphosis. (I've seen it go as high as 115%+) And before you enter combat, you swap back to your normal gear with hit cap and haste caps and everything, and just nuke the ever living S out of the boss. Hope that answers it well! Feel free to ask anything if I haven't explained it well, or if you have any other questions.
@@Rayne113 thanks for the explanation, it makes good sense. I only have one question left: How can you apply your dots while wearing the mastery gear set (the snapshotting), and then swap your normal gear afterwards without entering combat (which prevents you from swapping gear)?
@@PoorWax The gear swap is exclusively just to boost your mastery for the Metamorphosis bonus. You basically do this during pull countdown. 1-2 seconds left, you pop all your cooldowns with your mastery gear on, then swap your item sets to your normal gear before the combat starts. (There are macros for it, if necessary.) Metamorphosis will keep the mastery bonus you had when you used it (with your mastery gear) even after you switch back to normal gear. The same kind of logic applies to that snapshot like with the dots, except it's for a buff on yourself. This is exclusively just a pre-pull thing. You can not do this in the middle of the fight. (Other than weapons.) I have uploaded a quick 30 second video showcasing the Metamorphosis snapshot.
WillE, Im having a hard time deciding who to level and warlock is one of them. Dont care about if the spec is good or bad. Torn right now with Shadow Priest, Demo Lock, Feral tank druid and rogue. Don't worry bro, as I'm writing this comment I'm gonna generate a random number between 1 and 4, and whichever one it lands on is the class for you. Ready? 4 Play the Rogue.
Demonology will unfortunately be using Felhunter as its primary pet outside of activating the better buff for Dark Soul CD. Your opener is starting with Felguard, commanding it to do Felstorm, using Dark Soul for its much better buff with Felguard, then when Felstorm is over, you instant summon Felhunter with Soul Burn.
If we go off of the logs of private Cataclysm servers, Demonology warlock at the end of the game is by far the strongest burst DPS in the game to the point that they're stacked in guilds going for speed clear runs. Deleted my warlock F
bro just STOP bringing up demon hunter going to take warlock meta away please it's just so depressing ,, blizzard is stupid for removing warlock meta, we can just keep 2 kinds of metas it really doesnt change anything. everyone will be Tmogging Corrupted Ashbringer , who really cares about lore now, we can run around in classic with 2 types of Metamorphosis it's absolutely fine
1 more expansion until we get to literally the best iteration of every warlock spec to date. Who else is excited?
Demo in mop was a mess otherwise I agree
You're using "though" incorrectly.

I hope meta snapshot gets removed, I really don't want to have to get a whole different set of gear for mastery snapshotting lol
terrible class, a reason why you sometimes only see 1 in an 80 man world pvp raid
unpopular opinion
its a good class, just harder to play
@@hoodsaamuraii its horribad, dead class
Super hyped for aff PvP
I'll unalive anyone who says it wasn't.
