Cata was the expansion with hands down THE best class design and perfect pacing. Love that they decided to go further with the classics so we can relive this gem of expansion!
I Just startet Cata Classic a month ago and I have to agree with you. It’s much more time friendly and deepholm is a gem of a zone. I didn’t expect this. I love wow again 👍🏼
The skill ceiling for Balance increases by a great deal... not only do you have interesting decisions of exactly when to refresh dots (if you are about to go into an eclipse state it could be worth waiting to refresh), and the usual proc tracking for dot specs, but in addition your AoE is effected by eclipse and is a big thing to think about. Ideally you will want to time it so your eclipse state (preferably solar with three mushrooms waiting), so this might even effect which way you move your bar at the start of a fight. Pretty simple to play, but difficult to truly master. It's really a spec you can sink your teeth into and always feel like you are learning something new.
honestly more excited for cata than i have been for TBC or Wotlk, had some of my favourite class design in wow's history -feral, arms, survival, were imo in the best state theyve ever been
Willie! You make the best content. Thank you for your time and work, I appreciate it! Thanks for also loving streaming during the day/week. I enjoy coffee with you if you are on!
For these videos do you get the footage from a private server, if so which one? I’m finding it hard to find a private server for Cata that gives instant 85 so that I can test each class. Great video by the way, can’t wait to see the rest of the classes!
I'd recommend Whitemane. You can get instant 85s there but those characters can only do PVP. Regular characters are still extremely quick to level. They have massive XP bonuses, both questing and dungeons are super fast. You basically only have to quest until 15 and then you can spam dungeons, and from 20 you can also do archaeology which gives absolutely ridiculous amounts of XP. Once you hit 60, you get a free boost to 80 and full 232 ilvl green sets for each role. You can quest 80-85 in one zone, or spam dungeons, whichever you prefer (though I'd recommend questing, as the 232 gear is not actually great so you'll be weak and squishy, and quests will give you guaranteed huge upgrades). Lastly, every max level toon you have gives you a stacking 15% XP bonus for your next toon. So while it's not quite an instant 85, it's at least a very fast 85, and every subsequent one will be even faster. The leveling is so quick that it's actually a bad idea to get heirlooms, because farming the justice points (and guild rep/gold) to buy all heirlooms will take far longer than the actual leveling process.
The healing spec in cata feels so good to play, very strong and mobile its style is unique and fun! and you should be prio on Tarecgosa legendary staff!
Hey men, nice video❤, i loved this video, been playing all the classes on wotlk and its really interesting how they changed on cata. would like to know how much rogues changed on cata next if possible
I remember playing cata as resto druid and absolutely SMASHING it! Nobody could outheal me, no matter what they tried. On top of that, i never ran out of mana and could basically solo-heal 10-man content. OP? Hell yeah. Resto druid > all other healers. For example: With the 2-set bonus from firelands to increase mana regen when lifebloom ticks, combined with tree of life where you can have lifebloom on unlimited targets. This means that if you are totally OUT OF MANA and pop tree of life, you can get FULL MANA very fast just by spamming lifebloom on all targets possible.
Breaking feral into two trees was my least favorite class change since they have both factions all classes. So glad my memory was wrong, it may sound petty but I really truly prefer having dps and tanking within the same tree -- really unique for druids!
As a long time feral cat enjoyer, I think cat performance will heavily depend on if they keep the glyph of omen of clarity in the game. We will see what happens I guess. It will either be a B tier or S tier spec depending on the glyph (Imagine it during the 25% execute phase) BUT bear is 100% the winner in every aspect
Every class and spec was good in cata, every spec had its use, the most balanced expansion ever in my opinion. Unpopular opinion: Cata had the best PVP. Hated pvp after cata.
I'm gonna watch this series even if I barely touch cata hust because I'm very interested in the development progression of the game from classic to current retail. It's changed so much so trying to better understand why certain changes were made, their philosophy changes, the result and a possible better alternative that captures the classic vanilla feel in a modern mmorpg for wow 2 or classic+ would be insightful. Im starting to think even making every spec viable is just too many classes. Each spec is basically a class to manage and balance. I'm kind of interested in seeing a type of wow class system with hero classes where the original classes can transcend into a hero class at lvl 40 or potentially stay as the same class. The only exceptions being shaman, paladin and druid since they're basically hero classes with very little to transform their class. Probably should prune all class specs/roles. I think a paladin should merge holy and ret to be a dps healer similar to arcane mage in sod and change the whole idea of a healer intentionally being a healbot spamming heals. Whereas the more basic classes can have more faction and race identity by having certain hero classes exclusive to that specific race/starting class combo
I'll be skipping the cata videos but good luck on the UA-cam/Cata grind in any case. I've loved your videos all through Classic so nothing but the best!
Unfortunately going to have to reroll, because Druid is the only class I could see myself enjoying in Cata. I'm not excited about Cata and fully expecting to hate it, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
Was not a fan of Cata the first time around. For better or worse, they've tuned the balance tight as a wire, making it hard to stray outside the bounds. I like doing weird builds, which is a bit harder since the trees are locked. Druid I'm hopeful I can at least do something interesting, since they're such a flexible class. @@BREAKocean
Back in cata, I was pala Dk tank main. Been using these 2 tank for a long while, would consider myself a good tank was doing everything right but still die a lot in fireland. One day I got on my mount camping Druid tank. It was like WTF is this? That amount of Hp. Damn so easy, you don’t even need your brain. This shit don’t even die.
I played Balance and resto druid back then and they where awesome specially when you got Legendary staff just watch Thyraz Montage from that time my god was it good times. Gladiator Thyraz - Dragonwrath (Legendary Staff Boomkin PvP)
15:06 Whaaaaat?! I heard of Tree on CD on Cata but WTF is that thing?! This is my first time seeing it and it's totally horrible! Seriously if you couldn't gliph that thing out I would not play resto Druid at all.
Cata was the first expansion I played in its entirety and I'll never get over the loss of Tree of Life Form :( I'll still play a druid for the nostalgia, but it probably won't be my main
It had really good implications for PvP... certain CC doesn't work when transformed (so they can actually be poly'd), and the ability to burst heal is welcome as a trade off, since that was always where they struggled. Instant roots on as many targets as you want is just dirty, plus you can spam wrath and do really good damage.
@@naejimba my main disdain is the loss of a proper form for healers. Druid is such a creative concept and being locked on a form always seemed like a fair tradeoff to its unique playstyle. The current retail iteration of resto might be the most interesting, shifting between all available forms including caster and Incarnation, but the dislike for Tree of Life as an obligatory short-duration cooldown (a.k.a. The Broccoli Years) was one of my first opinions in game design and it stands even after revision hahahah
Can someone inform me how the population numbers on the EU Wrath servers are like at the moment? I realise that its kind of come to an end now so numbers will be naturally lower. What about the classic era realms? As we are finally at the end of the classic trilogy have people now accepted that TBC is really the true masterpiece of WoW expansions? I never bought the "retail starts at Cata" argument as there is far more content post Cata than between 2004-2010. I loved Wrath the first time around but lets be honest, TBC is the last iteration of anything remotely "classic". The raidng attunement questlines are a prime example of this, when the game was still an RPG. Once Wrath arrived and did away with this stuff the game became what it is. Although Ulduar is still the best.
I mained feral all through Cata... Bear was UNTOUCHABLE (literally, sometimes) in raids with huge health and dodge approaching god tiers. By Firelands, the swap mechanics on bosses would MISS (I personally dodged 6 of Baleroc's strikes IN A ROW). And PVP tree was a beast with kitty sprints and cheetah escapes.
Idc what anyone says it wasnt BC or WOTLK but cata kicked ass the tier sets were sick and the raids were the funnest to date imo and very rewarding difficulty with al akir and elemental council walls... such insane fights and dont even get me started on firelands heroic😅
Druid was what made Dragon Soul tolerable for me in the day. Specifically working for tank damage parses. Doing things like quickly shifting into cat and trying to get off a full 5 cp rip on Ultraxion after the twilight realm, before I had to shift back into bear and taunt was actually fun. I won't play Cata. But if I did I would be bearcatting again. The only thing that I would look forward to. And I'm a rogue main that got his daggers.
Cataclysm was when I hit level cap with everybody else on my druid instead of my mage and paladin. I loved tanking that expansion, but Balance and Restoration stole my interest.
I started playing around the last patch of wrath, and my buddy power levelled me. I had no attachment to "the old world" When cara dropped, I finally experienced leveling and questing around the world for the first time. I absolutely loved cataclysm.
I have to hard disagree here on the resto druid pvp part. People seem to forget how weak they were in cata. They were decent in RBG but bad in arena. There were memes about how rogue recoup was better than druid hots. Losing tree form also make them more easily mowed down by all the melee cleaves in cata. Also the change to lifebloom only being on one person at a time outside of tree form made u really weak to swaps. Tree instant regrowth spam was the only way to stay alive most of the time and that ran through your mana. It got a little better late into the expansion but Cata was resto shaman king pvp and holy pally too kinda.
