Good call George. Directors and Stars usually get the credit, but you can see from this how important Nira was to Spaced, and she deserves admiration, praise, and tremendous respect for that alone - what a stunning piece of work it was, from every angle.

This show was the best. Having only been able to see it from across the pond (Canada) years after it had been out it still felt like a revelation. Having just been in the U.K. I took a special trip in the cold to the spaced house just to see it for myself. One of the best shows ever.

As I recall, one of the episodes happened to be the original Channel 4 broadcast, replete with "After the break, Frasier" announcement midway through the end credits - the entire audience erupted with a cheer. Such vibrant times and aesthetic wonders - gets me rather misty-eyed thinking about it now. Happy days indeed.

Spaced is one of the best television series of all-time, and is easily the most re-watchable! I've seen each episode more times than I could even pretend to count, and every single time I love it just as much as I did in the beginning. Beyond just being one of the most brilliant and influential comedies ever produced, though, it is a testament to the magic that can occur when a television network simply allows young, inspired minds to create the kind of art (in this case: Comedy) that they want to see without a mob of inartistic, money driven executives and producers putting their unqualified hands all over the project.
It seems as though the greatest recipe for timeless series like this is when the writers and actors have equal ownership in all parts. That's when they gain the confidence and the passion to bring the material to life, and the desire to make every line, every acting choice, as deliberate as possible.
That's what Spaced ultimately represents to me; The intersection of a group of uniquely talented young people all coming together at the perfect moment in their lives to create something special. Because they all had the gift of being able to write, and they all came with a common sensibility, you never feel like you're watching actors play characters on television. Instead you feel like you're watching a troupe put on an original play of their own creation, where each person is equally as invested in their character as the next.
This is something (to be honest) that you don't quite feel with American television. There are exceptions, like Donald Glover's Atlanta or Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad, but for the most part you can just feel the studio's influence in every scene, and in every character of every show you watch. With Spaced that couldn't be any further from the truth. It is as uncorrupted a series as you will ever find, which is why it never loses its authenticity. It's as wholesome and enjoyable the first time you watch it as it is the one-thousandth time, and it's why I always finish the series knowing that in the not-so-distant future I will re-watch it again.

I clearly remember being pestered by my friend to watch Spaced in 2006, a few years after it had been broadcast. I took a look at the dvd cover and it didn’t appeal so just left it till he asked for it back. Feeling embarrassed I thought I’d better quickly watch the first episode just to say I’d watched it… and it captivated me. I remember sitting there transfixed. Had never seen anything like it. I feel so jealous of people seeing, say, Simon Pegg in Star Trek or watching Baby Driver and thinking: "Hey, I wonder if these guys did anything earlier in their careers?" without knowing they're about to unearth some of the best comedy films and sitcom ever made. I'd give a lot to experience their work for the first time all over again.

One of the few box sets I own and and have watched numerous times and never fails to appeal. Olivia Williams is still one of the funniest cameos but many before they were famous cameos. The zombie sequence is one of the scenes which looked like a film so no surprise Edgar Wright went onto making serious films. Also Mark Heap is amazing at creating characters whether Brian in Spaced or the fantastic Jim from Friday Night Dinner.

The clubbing episode was just...it hit the nail on the head of what Brit clubbing was like. It's really, really difficult for TV or film to replicate what the experience of a nightclub was. It's very, very rarely been done right, that I've seen. The only other decent interpretation was an average/odd film called The Young Americans, a UK cop thriller, with Harvey Keitel (?!)....and that was all grimy and dark, but very realistic. Epiphanies just encapsulated the joy and shenanigans of mates and E's and having a laugh.
