I've got a '22 Maverick XLT 2.0 FX4 w/Luxury Pkg, and love it. And I'll have to say, this video is typical, of many out there, of Chevy's being towed by Fords. 🙂
Most impressive and/or freaky thing about this trip is no trailer brakes. Love this video though, I ordered a Maverick 4k tow and sometimes need to tow 4300 for short in-town trips. I wasn't worried, but not really not.
@@jmpersic ya I rented a large trailer from them last time I moved. Towed it with my half ton which has no trailer brake controls. Their surge system worked great.
So as you said in the beginning the stock s10 weighed 3040+750 for trailer making it 3790lb. I have one of those utility beds on my ranger and it weighs 715lb. The ladder rack probably adds 150lb. The original pickup bed weighed 200lb. Which means that in total you were at 4455lb basically 4500lb.
Pretty awesome video, glad it seems the Maverick is stout enough to go well with that extra bit of towing, how was the sleeping situation in Camper Maverick mode? I do a few distance drives a year and am eagerly awaiting my Maverick so that is something I was curious about.
I am about 5'10 at that height i am kind of sleeping in the fetal position but with an air matress and some soft blankets you cant really complain when your tired!
@Mechanic Built That doesn't sound much worse than my current GTI and I am 5'8 and a bean pole of a human. On a positive note my Maverick arrived today and I pick it up tomorrow. 😁
Here's my comment I left as a reply to someone else's. Im copying it here, because this video & what I did have a stark contrast. Florida is FLAT & its at sea level... Thoughts?? I towed my 17' Key West from my house to 10,000 Islands & back, and from my house to Flamingo & back with the XL. Each of those drives in over 2 hours each way. And that's right at 2,000 lbs. Then you add me & a buddy, fire wood, camping gear, fishing gear, the whole gamut, I'm prob around 2300-2400 lbs. Did fine. Even after I camped out and the hull is full of water, in 10,000 Islands at the boat ramp it's a short - therefore a steep grade - and it's gravel. Tires spun once, & then out she comes!!

@@mrbogardmusic You should be looking at GCWR when towing plus carrying loads You and passengers and anything in the cab don't get added to the towing weight- it gets added to total payload, staying under GVWR- _then_ add trailer weight to total payload; and stay under GCWR.
Got a question as I was looking to pick up a maverick. I was told not to get one because it could only tow 1500-2k lbs. Now that I see you are towing close to 4k I will proabbly get one asap. My use is for trailering my motorcyles and so max weight of both would be 900lb plus the mount which is about 60-90lb. One bike is in the bed and the other aligns on the back using the hitch. Would I end up messiong the transmission up over time or do you think it could handle this load for years. And would I need to upgrade the rear suspension ?
Can't believe that little 4 banger can pull that without tossing its guts. Do you think you could tow with that vehicle often or is it more for just here and there? I have a 3000 pound boat and go out at least 30 times a summer for short one or two hour drives to lakes.
If i towed a vehicle around town then it would be a problem but will i ever drive another 1000 miles again? If I have to sure, but i wouldnt do it regulary overtowing. A 3000 lb boat would be nothing for this little truck. Many Maverick owners on the forums are towing 3500lb travel trailers cross country no issues. Also did an oil change video and the oil analysis come back normal for this truck! Thats with 10k regular interval!
Chevy/GMC Canyon has a turbo 4 in it and can tow 7,700ibs COMFORTABLY! These engines are more capable than you think, would be even better if not bogged down by all the EPAs bullshit
I’m planning to buy a Maverick. Do you have the XLT with the awl drive and towing package? I would appreciate if you could share what option you have on your Maverick thanks.
@@mechanicbuilt nice! It’s a shame you have to go all the way to lariat plus then add the lux package to get adaptive cruise. I didn’t bother with it for my 2023 order. I live in Alaska and don’t do much highway driving so prob not worth the cost.
CAN and SHOULD are two entirely different questions. Your truck as is would probably be plenty capable of pulling, however the difference is safely braking with that load behind you. Additionally I believe you would need to change out your Radiator and add intercooler for transmission to not burn it up if towing for more than a short distance
My maverick isn’t the fx4 but has the towing package and is xlt. Trying to tow 21 ft boat with some gear in the truck do you think not having the fx4 package will make a difference?
No it wont make a difference. The FX4 package gives you better tires and the different modes but the 4K package is what helps you tow properly. I just got my 2024 Maverick XLT 2 weeks ago. Got 4K, FX4, and the copilot 360, all I need to do all I want.
Getting the hotel wasnt an issue i just didnt want to deal with the logistics of finding parking since ive had issues in the past. So out of it being easier, just pulled over for some shut eye 😬
Honestly i didnt really do tow mode i really wanted to see how well the maverick did. However it did reconize it had the trailer plugged in and noticed the transmission was shifting as if it was
over 16 mpgs towing 4k lbs is impressive!
Yes! That’s what I get on my half ton without towing!
I've towed a Chevy Malibu with my Maverick with the car dolly it was also around 4200lbs, she handled it perfectly.
Quite impressive actually! Thanks for sharing your trip!

Thanks for the update that’s awesome! I’m still waiting for mine to be built 😢”eco 4K xlt

I think the uhaul trailers have built in brake systems that don’t need to be plugged in to anything.
@@aknmtbr Interesting, I had no idea about the surge brake system. Did some research and this tow dolly most likely had automatic surge brakes.

Nicely done

I bought a base XL with a hitch but without the additional 4000 lbs tow package. Mine only tows 2000. I regret it.
I bought a base XL and am happy I didn't waste money on AWD and the 4K tow package. I'd rather save the $3K

Wait 2 - 3 years then trade in for new model with what you need
I'd be aggressive with transmission fluid service.
My tundra 5.7 doesn't even get 16 mpg unaded. How can you possible complain about that 😮

make sure you get the a Maverick with a 4k tow package. This gives you a bigger fan, trailer brake, and different gearing for the rear axle
I would have just flat towed the S10, did it with a ranger and it worked out fine.

Ok since I’m a noob u think that would tow more then 4k like 6 ? Like 100 miles 4-5 times during the summer ?
How comfortable was it to sleep? Appreciate your video. Thanks
It wasnt the best but it wasnt horrible. Im 5'10 and if you are comfortable sleeping in the fetal position its okay 🙃

Lariat awd with 4k tow package 😀
What engine does this truck have ?
2.0 ecoboost
What gear were you towing in?
Did you ever do the oil change video?
Current working on it should be out soon! went through a kidney stone and just recently food poisoning so this start of the year hasnt been great lol

Can a FWD 2.0 Eco Boost also tow 4K? I had a maverick it doesn’t have a tow hitch but thinking of getting one later on if I get a camper.

Na the hybrid can't tow nearly that much.
Maybe u should pay attention when driving instead making vudeus make out roads safer
