Hey Rev. Harkins, hope you had a fantastic Easter! If you're looking for a brush that will make your lather go a lot further, you may want to look into a synthetic. I have VERY hard water where I live, and all I basically use is Arko. With my TGN synthetic brush, I can swirl 5 times in the (Arko) bowl at the beginning of the shave, and have enough for three passes and a cleanup. Good luck and great videos! :)
Kenny Ingram Thanks for the suggestion. In terms of principle, I haven't gone near synthetic, but I do need to give them a chance. It seems many people get great results with them. Thanks for watching.
My brush of choice is a Van Der Hagen boar brush. I've used the same one for almost nine years !! About twenty years ago I got a badger finest silvertip for $ 76 , just flimsy, not meaningful. I also have a horsehair , which I like. Van der Hagen Deluxe is fine stuff and cheap, go for it !!
Why did you shave your face multiple times? (I'm assuming because you wanted a really close shave?) Also why is shaving something you have to do? (I'm Southern Baptist so a lot of our church leaders have facial hair)
Ashleigh Andrews Great questions. Traditional shaving (with either a safety or straight razor) is carried out in a series of passes, often three. Each pass is aimed at 'beard reduction.' The idea is that you are reducing the hair each time, rather than trying to eliminate it right away. In answer to why I have to shave, the reason is practical nor religious. I am just trying to appear presentable and clean, so I shave every day. Plus I can't really pull off the beard. Now it used to be a matter of church disciple that parish priests had to be clean-shaven. I am not sure of the reason historically, but I would guess it had to do with simplicity. Over the years, various styles and fads of facial hair have come and gone. Since the Church asked them to be clean-shaven, the priests didn't have to worry or focus on what is in or out of style, etc.
I shave virtually every day. After a whole lot past 24 hours without a shave my whiskers are nasty, kind of hurt my face. I shave almost every day, unless I'm sick !! I also enjoy shaving, the different razors, blades, etc. I have about 80 different shave creams, gels, soaps, etc. in my place. My choice of an aftershave is Neutrogena ; it is just nice and a great thin to do after shaving. They have a fine one with sunscreen. I most strongly recommend them !!
This razor hits at about a 6 or a 7 on a Gillette Fatboy or Slim. Sorry I always compare everything to vintage razors. it's all I know. Great Great razor and for me.. shaves equally as. well as its counterpart which is Heavily modeled after the Gillette Super Adjustable!
Your videos are the most relaxing and peaceful videos out there! Happy belated Easter to you!

Good choice with the Arko. I love that stuff. Have you ever tried their soap stick? I enjoy the process of using a stick soap. God bless.
Nice shave bro!

Oh wow, you learn something new every day!! And yeah that makes sense about the priest being asked to shave. Thanks for the response, God bless. :D
