Having just recently tried the PC IB 2013 I couldn't agree more about how much better it tasted a few weeks after opening. I'm still fairly new to the whisky world but have never experienced such a dramatic oxidisation benefit as much as with this bottle. Went from a curiosity to one of my favourites!
Thanks for sharing Blair… A few weeks and maybe a few short months but from my experience the PC10 and Ardbeg 10 after several months can loose nuance and become muddled and fall apart especially as the bottle gets low. Cheers 🥃
I can't wrap my head around the higher price for the younger whisky. I can't wrap my head around the newer PC10 getting better, I thought the old days were the good days. I'm suffering thru a bottle of PC10 dated 2018.12.30. I didn't even know I was suffering. Thanks for the heads up gentleman......it was still at the 2019 price. Actually my favorite Port Charlotte is Scottish Barley from 2014. The 2012 Islay Barley was smokey and peaty but there is an off note, a sour bitter something. I'll go back to eventually and continue suffering. The old Scottish Barley is rich and creamy sweet with meaty peat.
Appreciate your sarcasm. Islay barley must come at a premium having to rely on multiple small farms relative small harvests compared to mass produced global harvests. Maybe the newer PC 10 releases are simply better batches and in time we will unknowingly suffer yet again?😳 Cheers 🥃
First of, really enjoying your channel and content :) I got the islay barley 2013 for the same price as the PC 10 and very much enjoyed it, a nice vegetal note and fruity, melon apricot and the peat. Thanks for the comparison
Loving the PC10. I bought a bottle this past December based on Ralfy's original review, and was blown away. Then his re-review came out and justified my experience. I better go grab another bottle ASAP with all the high praise it's getting! Thanks for the side by side comparison with the Barley, really appreciate your insight! Also congrats on 500, here's to 1,000, cheers
I'm just tasting these side by side, and I watched your review before and during the tasting. To me, they are very similar, but the Islay Barley is much more complex, flavorful, and smoother at the same time. Although the 10 is older, it drinks younger, in my opinion. I hoped I would love the 10, but I'd pick this Islay Barley 2013 first (and all the other PCs with a more substantial wine cask influence. The PMC is one of my all-time favorites). I know I'm a year late, but thanks for the review.
Thanks Kako…. I’m enjoying the PMC as well. As far as PC10 core offerings… some batches/releases are better than others. They seem to be improving in recent years. Cheers 🥃

@@justwhisky Question: I'm in NYC, and some of the bottles you've reviewed are VERY hard to track down. Do you have to hunt them down, or do you have a good local shop?
Great reviews. I just picked up the PAC:01 2011 bottling the other day. It has received mixed reviews but I have liked every PC I have tried. Slainte/cheers/Skal
I just found the PC IB 2013 at my local. I’m going to remember to give it time should I get it. Thanks for the honest and thorough review.
IMO it’s not a must buy.
I would spend it on a PC10 cask exploration series: Sc:01
Or save money and stick with the standard PC 10
Hope that helps
@@justwhiskythat does help out a lot. Saved me $88. I got PC S.C.-01 for $104. Now I’m real stoked I got it.

Great little side-by-side, not usually a fan of very heavily peated stuff, but they do sound like they've got a rounder profile than just smoke
Yes… and at a reasonable price.
Great choice for a head to head, and congrats on 1k!!
Thanks Eric!

Gordon's has both. Wonder why the 2013 is $10 more.
Limited Islay grown barley means
Smaller batches which translates into premium price.

Dig the Frank Miller Tshirt 👍 (At least I think that's what it is?) PC10 is hard to beat these days.
