2001 Dodge 1500 Truck; Alternator overcharging? Check the 'alternator FUSE', first

With engine running, take a multimeter, touch the red lead to the big post coming out of it, then take the black lead and touch the housing of the alternator. If it's reading 20, 40 volts or higher? Check your 'alternator fuse'. Once this is replaced? The alternator will now read approx 14 volts.
