Side note: this is a true story and a bit of a joke.
Many people with spinal cord injuries have bladder and bowel issues. But it’s a little “in” joke with my friends. If you know, then you know. I just feel there are right times to ask the question.

To the “and why are you in a wheelchair” I generally answer “oh I am just lazy 😜” . Stupid questions call for stupid answer…

I know the feeling....like treat what I'm here for! Not here for a check up, not here for my bowels, not here for my bladder. Just treat the issue and keep it going.

Yup, it’s like THIS doctor can fix you up. I went last week for refills of meds I have been on for 10yrs.
Severe spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis. Can’t walk very well and use a cane mostly, and wheelchair when out for longer than 2hrs. My dr was off on holidays, new guy asked me about everything lol.
    It’s on my record dude.
Nope, full physical had to be done cause I might be lying.
    I just wanted refills!
Suprised he didn’t want a prostate exam too lol.

I'd be filing a Formal Complaint. There was NO reason for a temoorart stand-in to be invasive over a simpke refill

If they don't have time then they are not an effective Dr. I have no problem reminding them that I file with their business and take my business elsewhere.

Oh this is too accurate and I hate it so much. Wasted an entire YEAR playing catch-up with a new primary care when the issues are already charted in my notes 😤🤬

oh boy, I guess we've all been there - I was once in A&E and all the doctor seemed concerned about was convincing me to find a way to learn not to use a wheelchair - I actually needed surgery to have part of my stomach removed and was in hospital for nearly two weeks and there were several days where there me having pancreatic or liver cancer was a possibility, this doctor wanted to give me paracetamol and send me home.

Coming in to talk about a specific thing that has little to nothing to do with why you use a mobility aid but they can't stop talking about it...yeah. Sometimes we have other problems too, it's not always the spinal cord injury/chronic illness/etc.!

Oh yes. Any problem I need to see the GP for it always mutates into a problem with my MS or Diabetes.

Mine is always due to my "history of mental health problems," which is a basically one misdiagnosis nearly 20 years ago that should have been permanently erased from my record when another diagnosis was made a few years ago. And I'm always "too young to be in so much pain," according to trainee doctors young enough to be my actual children.

I have three pages of notes from my primary physician, diagnosis, medication list including dosage, allergies and symptoms and treatments ,I just tell the office of a new doctor to make a copy of these three pages and make it easier on yourself. The doctors like it, it's concise, and the staff like it so they don't have to type in my hand written notes ,all those papers every doctor makes you fill out. I love my primary care doctor for doing that every time I go I get an updated copy to take with me.

Bit annoying if you're in pain and used to your disability. Just deal with it. Or people who want you to explain HEDS in a few words. I just refer them to a 72 page article on it.

I think it's a better safe than sorry approach to ensure that any treatment they may prescribe doesn't interact with other meds you're taking or an existing medical condition. Or let's say if you're in the ER and something goes terribly wrong, then they've that there to better deal with the person. Why they don't just look at the records? I don't know, it'd be interesting to hear why they really take that approach.

That's funny. But I cant remember any of my doctors asking me directly about those. Just when I get a bladder infection I just tell him and he gets me a prescription. So I'm rather surprised that this actually occurs.

The last time I got, “I don’t have the time to read your notes,” I replied, “Well, I left my house two hours ago, picked up your forms an hour ahead of my appointment, spent an hour filling them in, so the least you can do is glance at them.”🫤
