    I watched the video when you first released it. I applied this to my wife's Honda CRV (10+yrs old) this week, so I came back to watch again and critique my technique. The product does go on quite easily and the seats look great. Like others mentioned in the comments, I didn't really see any high spots or streaks that would require a wipe down, but I did it anyway just because the instructions said to do so. What an embarasment of riches we have - so many great products from so many companies - looking forward to your annual awards!

    Fantastic video Pan!! So when do you apply a leather conditioner?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому +4

      Thanks! Modern leather is coated, with a polyurethane clear coat (similar to the clear coat on your paint). So on new leather seats, a leather conditioner wouldn't penetrate that top coat. You only start using leather conditioners on older seats (3+ years) when microcracks start appearing due to wear.
      On new seats, all that is needed is to protect against dye transfer, friction damage, fading and cracking from UV rays, and make cleaning easier. Hence why we use modern leather sealants and coatings.

    Always love the videos... so I'm wondering (maybe a dumb question). 🤪 So forgive my ignorance as I'm still studying before applying my first ever Ceramic Paint Coating (again w/me coming from years of perhaps ole school Professional Meguiar's Numbered Products). 😇 But essentially, is there anything "special" or different about the Gyeon Leather Shield EVO that would allow the Gyeon Bald Wipe towels to be used again later for other future project? Or is it similar to, my understanding, that once a towel is used for a Ceramic Coating of any kind... that it then makes that towel unsafe/unusable. i.e. any towel used for Ceramic Coatings are all pretty much one use and done (only to be used like maybe as a tire towel from then on)? Thanks again ever so much for the great videos!!! 👍

    • @gyeonusa
      @gyeonusa 8 місяців тому +1

      The towels that you use to apply LeatherShield won't have the same hardening added to them like you see with the paint coatings. BUT, its ability to absorb will be lost so there will not really be much use for it anyways. Because of this, we consider the towels unusable for future usage.

    Hi Pan, thanks for another great informative video! I have two questions: 1) if you apply Leather Shield EVO and after a while you want to remove it from the leather completely (e.g. because you want to recoat the leather), how can this be achieved since it is a ceramic coating? Polishing like paint is not an option, or could you simply use the Gyeon Leather Cleaner to fully remove Leather Shield EVO? 2) how would you compare Leather Shield EVO to Colourlock Top Life in terms of e.g. durability, feel, protection and reversability, which got awarded the second place for leather protectors in your 2023 awards (while the non-EVO version of Leather Shield took 3rd place)? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

    Hi Pan! Can you use all purpose cleaner for maintenance? Does damage coating? Can you use leather hydration after APC or directly on top of ceramic coating?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому

      Do not use APC to clean leather surfaces. APC is high pH, and leather is actually acidic in nature (lower pH 4.5 to 5.5). So you want a dedicated pH balanced leather cleaner for the task. Like the Gyeon Leather Cleaner Natural, or any other good quality leather cleaner. That's all that is needed for maintenance.

  • @chrisryan8894

    Hi pan , what’s the follow up maintenance for this coating ? I assume and good quality interior cleaner wont ruin it, but what about leather conditioners ? I use Adam’s leather conditioner every couple months. Would this even penetrate the coating ?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому

      Leather conditioners are usueless on new leather that’s in good shape, as conditioners can’t penetrate the top coat (clear coat). I spoke about this quite extensively in many videos in the past.
      So on leather in good condition, all you need is to protect it against friction damage, dye transfer, fading and cracking, and make cleaning/maintenance easier.
      To maintain leather seats after you applied this coating, you can use an interior detailer or the Gyeon Leather Cleaner Natural once in a while.

    • @chrisryan8894
      @chrisryan8894 8 місяців тому

      @@PanTheOrganizer interesting, I definitely notice the seats are much softer after the conditioner. Perhaps it’s not a “true” conditioner, I know it has high uv protection…perhaps I’ll wait till I run out of the product I have than give the coating a go. I don’t want to accumulate a ton of product and just have it sit around. Thanks Pan

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому +1

      A conditioner, although it won't penetrate a new leather surface, will still offer that "softness" on touch, as it's still laying on top of the leather's top coat. So it makes sense that you feel that.

      You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing.
      As far as your 30 year old Porsche is concerned, I don't know what type of leather it has. In a nutshell, if it's pigmented (coated) leather with a clear coat on top, yes you can use this product. If it's aniline leather (raw hide), then no. To know if you have aniline leather, drop a few drops of water on the leather surface. If the water gets sucked in and leaves a stain, it's aniline. If the water stays on top and you can wipe it off and no stain left, it's coated leather.

    When is the EcoWash video? Apparently it has SiO2 protection in it? Makes me concerned about clogging up my drying towel since the Ceramic Detailer did even after I soaked/washed the towel. Any word on that?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому +1

      I am not aware of the chemical composition of EcoWash, but many rinseless washes now have SiO2 in them, but not always for protection purposes. Like the recent Armour Detail Supply Hero review I did, that rinseless wash has SiO2 in it, but it's not for long lasting protection, they use it more for lubrication in that application.
      So if you wash your towels after use, I wouldn't be worried about the fibers being coated or clogged.

    • @GYEON_official
      @GYEON_official 8 місяців тому +1

      Hi @monstershayne, Q²M ECOWash has SiO2 in its formula to provide some level of protection and nice sheeting as well. Regarding your question, we recommend washing your mitt or microfiber towel after each use, whether you use a SiO2 product or not. But yes, if a SiO2 product is left to dry on any cloth, it will reduce its absorption performance.
      Hope that clears everything.

    Thanks for your review! I had always understood that a new car’s leather has a clear coat (as you mentioned) that makes the application of any additional coating ineffective for the first couple of years. Does the Gyeon cleaner remove the factory clear coating, or does the Gyeon coating adhere to the factory clear coat?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому

      Don’t get confused. It’s the use of conditioners that is useless on new leather as conditioners can’t penetrate through the clear coat.
      But what is important is to peotect the leather and that’s why we use leather sealants or in this case leather coatings. Those peotections sit on top of the clear coat and bond to it. Like a coating on paint.
      So you clean the sueface with the leather cleaner and then apply the coating. The leather cleaner is pH balanced to the leather’s pH so it won’t damage the clear coat.

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      Hard to say as I don't see your car. Car manufacturers have weird care instructions in their manuals typically as they have to assume most people don't know how to properly detail their car, and so they have to put huge precautions to avoid the average person to make catastrophic mistakes.
      If you use quality leather care products like these in this video, you should have zero issues if you follow the instructions of the given products.
      To know if your Benz has coated leather (like 99% of modern car) or aniline leather (a rare occurrence), drop a few drops of water on the leather. If it gets absorbed straight into the leather and leaves a dark patch (that will eventually evaporate), then it's aniline, and these aren't products for that. If the water stays on top, and you can simply wipe it and it leaves no stain, you have coated leather, and you can proceed as directed in this video.

      You would have to thoroughly clean the leather surface before, to remove the previous protection, before applying the leather coating. Leather coatings need to bond directly to the polyurethane top coat of the leather, without interference by another protectant. Just like you need to decontaminate et strip the paint of previous protections before applying ceramic coatings.

      CarPro Descale isn't for regular weekly washes. It's for an "as needed" basis when you get mineral deposit accumulation or water spots. Perhaps a few times a year for a deeper decon wash, like in my spring cleaning tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/oTaFE_p2OAw/v-deo.htmlsi=41vbv8xlBLRFYByU

    Hi Pan, I just got a reply from GyeonUSA saying the Gyeon Leather Shield doesn't provide protection against friction damage, is there any suggestion you have that I can apply on top of the leather shield in addition to the protection against friction damage?

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      I’m confused as that’s not the info I had. I wouldn’t sweat it as they do claim it’s very durable which means the coating should be there for a long time resisting the friction of you going in and out of your car. I had used even the old version on many cars and it did just fine no signs of wear.

    I've tried almost all of their coatings (except Rim, Trim and View) and all of them are fantastic, CanCoat is just amazing for the price and the volume (also the durability for a Lite coating destroys and the beading.. My god) One is SUPER easy to apply, nice sheeting but not impressed on the durability still a good coating, Pure is just awesome - the gloss my gods.. Mohs is just godlike, the slickness 😳 I have 2 coats of mohs on my paint now, without Skin (in my opinion one of the worst coats by Gyeon). About this leather shield evo, I bought it - wrote to Yves and he said that on my brand new Sensatec (BMW) leather (basically plastic) they have a factory clear coat and there is no sense in applying LS Evo - so I appied it on my cousins Merc - went on easy - no high spots and he says that they are a bit slippery but the cleaning is amazing. Cheers Pan!

    • @PanTheOrganizer

      You should know what type of leather seats your car has. If not, do some research on Google, or call your dealership and inquire. 99% of leather in cars today is coated leather, so I wouldn't overthink the moment.
      The way to know if you have aniline leather (not very common) is if you drop a few drops of water on the leather and it immediately gets absorbed into the leather, you know have aniline leather.

    What is “open structure” leather?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  8 місяців тому

      It's basically aniline leather. After tanning, the aniline leather is dyed throughout in a container and, in contrast to pigmented leather, is not finished with a top layer of color pigments. We also call this a leather an open structured leather.
      So aniline leather doesn't have the top coat (polyurethane based clear coat) like 99% of car leather does. So it's unprotected. What you see is the raw hide.
