A decent treated room / booth / bedroom cupboard
(kill that wave reflection bouncing off walls, floor and ceilings… buy duvet, rugs, stack book shelves)
and half decent microphone like a Lewitt 440 pure or Rode NT
(one is bright, one is darker both are fantastic),
going into reasonable gain / light compressor
(I still use a safe sound audio P1 discontinued) into a modest RME pci card.
Listen / Mix on good cans Beyer Dynamic 770 or AKG 702 and in my case Adam a7x remember to take mix out to the car !!
NOW you can think about in the box EQ…

The only one I could hear towards the end was reverb. I liked the voice much better without it. But I do love Fabfilter tools. I suck at my job though so not even Fabfilter can fix some of my recordings...... Cheers 🍻

Eq is actually the processing of frequency volume by splitting up the signal into multiple parts and crossing between. It's not actually present in everything. Though you can affect the frequency response with mics placement and other equipment which will sound better typically if you can balance like this because of the lack of phasing when you don't mix multiple signals together, like eq
He wasn’t saying EQ is literally “present in everything”, as you put it. He was just saying that many things can boost or attenuate certain frequency ranges much like an EQ does, like adding saturation to a narrow band of frequencies, which is obviously true.

Your definitions are strange. EQ changes the volume of different frequencies, that's it. How this is achieved is another topic. Also, almost every playback device from commercial to professional audio splits the signal at the loudspeaker stage. Multiple signals are always being mixed just as in real life with constant reflections and reverberations.
I like to EQ before I hit the preamp. Really helps kill a bad room beforehand.

I honestly just add random plugins I don't do any plugins a certain way, whatever plugins I add an dhow I do it stays just how I add them, I mean it doesn't matter if you use the eq before a plugin or after rite lol

Reverb before your EQ? Unconventional but I like the sound a lot. If you could do a video explaining more about that decision, that’d be sick.
If your master is a lil bit harsh alittle bit of reverb fixes that
Most voices / instruments you will want an EQ before and after the Reverb like he did here.
You want to start with subtractive EQ to remove the elements you don't want (boomy bass, harsh highs, muddy mids, etc..) then use your compressors, reverbs, etc... to shape / enhance the sound, then finish off with additive EQ for the finishing touches (enhancing bass, adding air, etc...)
Think of the process as preparing/cleaning the voice/instrument for processing (subtractive EQ), processing the voice/instrument (Adding FX like compressors, delay, reverb) and then polishing the voice/instrument (additive EQ)

@@kvdence - A send reverb should be used to kind of "glue" things together, like using a send reverb for your percussion instruments so they sound like they were recorded in the same room or sending everything to a room reverb to help blend your mix together.
If you're trying to create interesting audio effects to enhance/shape the voice/instrument, you want to do it on that voice/instrument's specific mixer channel.
@@RealSiViXonly difference there is between a send reverb and one straight on your track is the amount of control you have. Send reverb gives you way more control

People I understand everyone is on a budget but the best chance to get pro vocals is to…take your ass to a professional studio….not your cousins house, not your friend rooms, spend the money and get the quality. It’s an investment in your future. Before you book the session have them play you some songs they recorded, mixed and mastered. Dont let them crank it up so it sounds nice, have it at a decent volume. Dont get caught up on whether the song is good or bad, you’re listening for quality, does it sound like something that could be on the radio sound wise. And then once you book the session, sit next to the engineer and watch how they mix it and master it. Key word being WATCH don’t ask a bunch of questions until the relationship is built, let them do their job, what they’ve been hired to do. And once you have booked a few sessions and y’all feel comfortable then you can ask questions and pick their brains. But until then just watch and take mental notes or actual notes on your phone. Yes you can watch a million UA-cam videos but seeing it done from start to finish and it being something you created you’ll learn way more and you’ll then be able to duplicate and truly understand how your voice sounds and should be mixed. Your voice is unique it’s not going to be mixed the same way as someone else. Your voice is going to sit in the pocket a bit different, you might need more high end removed maybe more low end removed. Music takes time and once you take it seriously and truly invest in yourself then you’ll go places. I guarantee you that if you spend money to create a song and have it professionally recorded, mixed and mastered. You’ll be more likely to spend the time and money promoting it and truly pushing it out there vs something your did yourself or with a friend and you dont really like the end results. Take the time to make something you’re truly proud of, something you’ll show off to others proudly like “yeah this is me, listen to this” and people will be impressed with your work and want to share it.
Ive seen people say 700hz, 1khz 2-3khz and 4khz are the nasal frequencies, is it dependent on voice or do they all have nasal qualities?

Room treatment would be your 1st problem to solve. Then go get the best audio interface you can afford. Then I suitable microphone for your voice or vocalist. Peace!
Best chance is a good singer combined with a clean recording peaking at -6db. Emphasis on a good singer.....

Pretty good, but the reverb was a bit too wet, made that clear forward mix fall back in the context of the song
The boxy frequencies are between 350 and 450 not 500..

Source file is the key. You ain’t fixing a clipping vocal in processing.
Learn how to sing or to acquire a certain voice that'll fit in music , get someone / learn how to mix your vocals then boom

People like to say high quality gear doesn’t matter. It does but even more than that is a good treated area for recording

But considering most viewers of these types of videos are new to recording and doing it in their room with no budget for treatment this literally is THEIR best approach to compensate.
@@levi8781most mainstream music nowadays is recording in a living room or on tour with no treated rooms, nowadays plugins and pc efficiency at high levels make a treated room non necessary no more
