Thanks so much for posting! we tried to visit and thought it would be open until 5 but the last tour is at 3:30 so it was closed at 4 when we got there (i guess if no one is there for the final tour they close early) - just an FYI for anyone planning a visit!
Spent many winters there before you had to pay. Ate lots of acid and climbed cliffs and slept with rattle snakes. So sad that it is dry during part of the year. Many life forming memories in that canyon. My daughters middle name is canyon because of that canyon.
The Native Americans of the Aqua Caliente are Cahuilla ( Ka -Wee-ah) . I enjoy watching your hiking videos. Just alittle information to share. They lived in the Riverside, Cherry Valley, San Gorgonio Pass all the way to the Salton Sea. I love history and hiking. They predate the Serraanos by 100 years.
Thanks for posting. We used to hike these falls and the ones further up - I think there were three - in the early 70's. We'd pack all our food in and all our trash and waste out. The trail was very narrow then, more like a goat trail than the manicured one you see here. All I wore during the day was a leather thong around my waist to hold my drinking cup! What a great place to hang with my high school buddies (Whittier High School class of '72). Good times!
Wow, very cool spot! Love seeing all of awesome places in desert. Going to try to hit some of these up next year, for sure! Thanks as always for sharing!
I remember hiking up here to party, with a cooler full of beer, back in the 80's. We never paid back then, we just went. Of course, they'd patrol on horseback, and kick you out if you got caught. There was, what seemed, a whole tribe of squatters living above the falls, and eating out of the supermarket dumpsters down on Hwy 111. Was a great place to cool off in the Summertime. Although, the trail could be a bit treacherous lugging a huge cooler of beer on your shoulder. Good times back then !!!
Okay. I have super 8 movie of me and my buddies inside Tahquitz 50 years ago. Really. I can't even remember much of a trail. I do remember scrambling over boulders, "bucket brigading" our provisions up stream. Provisions consisting of guitars, a gallon glass container of Red Mountain, sleeping bags, spam and pancake mix, LSD. We ran into only one other "camper"--a hippie with imprsessive Jesus curls who slithered out from a rock he'd claimed for his permanent abode. He eyed my super 8 with a covetousness that made me nervous.....We were goofy adventurers, no doubt. Pretty much everyone was back then. Lots of enthusiasm, little preparation. Tahquitz was magic........
Thank you for sharing this during those good times of deluge. I went there one week ago (Oct 25th ,2021), it was my first time, and sadly I saw none of that water! It was completely dried out! the waterfall was gone, the swimming pool gone, no streams, nothing. I am watching your video and amazed to see the difference between wet and dry season. Wow so much water when you went! I am waiting for the rainy season so badly! One thing I loved was no graffiti nor trash, no thugs smoking/kussing/playing loud offensive music... I guess that is thanks to the fee you pay and the keen supervision by the rangers. So I stand in support of the entrance fee and all the supervision, without it the place would be riddled with garbage and graffiti, so pay that fee and respect rules and you will have an enjoyable hike. I have been to places with no fees and no supervision and seen the disgusting consequences, you don't enjoy and it ruins all your tranquility and makes you angry to see how destructive and filthy some people can be.
@@alexopferman8810 yes the water has been flowing since late December, been there so many times already! I think it'll last till the end of September, then dry up again...
Yeah, no need to do the guided tour as they have maps of the whole area with points of interest. You will just have to pay for entrance as it is on Indian land.
Everytime I go hiking around palm springs I always pack a high caliber pistol just to be safe , I've encountered coyotes and rattlesnakes before , just a heads up to ppl going hiking.
Nice Video. Thanks for sharing. I've been wanting to do this for a few years, but wanted to wait for the drought to end. How hot was it? Should we do this early morning?
We did this hike right after we left Mission Creek. It was in the 90's out. If I was you, i'd do it earlier in the day. Take a dip back by the falls before heading back out.
They’re up above the falls, but you need to have a tribal member go with you... it’s closed to the public pass the falls. Plus you have to do some real rock climbing to get past the waterfall.
12.50 a person. Damn back in the 70s we didn't pay shit. If I remember there were 7 falls and the higher you went the better chance of meeting some hippies girls going topless. And they were friendly and easy to talk to.
lee. the god tauquitz stole that girl, she refused him, he lifted the rock and hollowed,a space under it. he placed the rock over her. and she is still there to this day.

Amazing. Yes it was such a beautiful falls when I visited. Peaceful and very spiritual. Really calm setting. Loved my visit.
On a good snow year, that waterfall flows really good!

Very cool Jason thanks for sharing :-)
There are a few more waterfalls out there in palm springs to see too!
Jim Morrison brought me here!!! 🎶🎵🧔🏻🎶🎵💕🙆🏻♀️
Great little find and I didn't at all mind paying the $12.50 entrance fee.
Thanks for the treat!

Oh wow! No water!?!? Yeah you need to go back during the rainy season! Well worth it!
just got back from a hike today 3/30/22, and the waterfall is flowing!

Nice hike .
Thanks.
nice video!
Thanks!
Thanks 4 sharing my legs still messed up but soon ill be out there..
Thanks for watching. Hope you get back out on the trails soon.
Goin tomorrow💪🏽
Awesome. Enjoy!
Go after a snow storm when water is plentiful...the falls had blue water when we went.
The time of year this was filmed, the falls was filled by snowmelt.
Didnt Jim Morrison explore the falls in late 60s?
That's right.
Yes, in fact he filmed a scene there for his short film "HWY: An American Pastoral" which is available to see (in part) here on UA-cam...
agua Caliente, hot water Indian. interesting is most of the water warm?
Didn't really notice if it was warmer then normal.
Awesome video how many miles was that hike?
Alfonso Casillas 2 mile RT
I'm planning to do this short hike in late October. Can it be done on my own or do I have to go with the guided tour group??? Thanks!
Yeah, no need to do the guided tour as they have maps of the whole area with points of interest. You will just have to pay for entrance as it is on Indian land.
Used to camp there in late 60's.
That must have been fun!
Everytime I go hiking around palm springs I always pack a high caliber pistol just to be safe , I've encountered coyotes and rattlesnakes before , just a heads up to ppl going hiking.
Going to Tahquitz the pistol would not be allowed on tribal land.
seriously? I hike around Joshua Tree all the time and the coyotes are fearful and rattlesnakes are not everywhere trying to bite people. Fear!!!
Lol....I lived up there... The snakes don't come at you unless provoked, and you'd be hard pressed to get attacked by a single coyote.
sorry for so many Qs...lol how many hours would you say would be good to thoroughly enjoy it?
4-5 hours would be good

Huck Outdoors Thanks. It didn't look like the hike gains much elevation either.
There is a slight gain in elevation, but not too bad.
Huck Outdoors awesome! Today's forecasted high in Palm Springs is to be 110 so we should do this soon.
Thanks again for sharing.
is there a gate/opening time? i'd like to go very early to beat the heat when i'm in the area...
Would be best to give them a call.
That was awesome
Thanks for watching!
What was the temperature of the water at the falls. Also was it deep
Not sure. Didn't go back so far, but it dont look too deep. Maybe a couple feet at most.
is it still $12.50..what's the $35 that ppl are talking about? is the falls still plentiful in summer and fall?
I do not know what they charge now days. I went in the spring and it was flowing good.
Lookout rock=Jesus rock...i skipped school up there. I lived under jesus rock for a year
What time of year is best for water to be high?
Spring would be best.
@@HuckOutdoors thanks
Did you spot any x Huck? 😀
Not here! It's dry in some years. :(
They’re up above the falls, but you need to have a tribal member go with you... it’s closed to the public pass the falls. Plus you have to do some real rock climbing to get past the waterfall.
@@westernoutdoors7736 Thanks. Yeah, looked steep. Have you ever gone after them?
Is it $12.50 per hiker?
It may have gone up now. But it was per person.
what time of the yr did you go to this??
May of 2017. I would go in the spring after snowmelt.
@@HuckOutdoors, oh ok well its raining today so i might head out tomorrow see if we can get a great flow to the falls.
Huck Outdoors yeah went out there last month it was a good flow and dove in. It was beyond fucking cold.
12.50 a person. Damn back in the 70s we didn't pay shit. If I remember there were 7 falls and the higher you went the better chance of meeting some hippies girls going topless. And they were friendly and easy to talk to.
