Seeing him there, seated and with a cannula through his nose, in that striking outfit, singing this enormously personal and devastating song with as much dignity and grace as he could muster... that alone was indescribably moving. Congratulations on that and your well-earned ARIA Hall of Fame induction, Mr. Roach.
At 66 years of age, this is the only song of my lifetime that routinely brings tears to my eyes. I’ve seen you many times, Archie, always a great show. So sorry your lungs aren’t what they should be. Us whitefellas live on blackfella land. Always was, always will be.
Ah Uncle Archie I miss you Know that history will see you as one of the most significant artists in this country's story And this song? The most important story for us all to understand
Archie Roach - Uncle Archie - is one of the greatest and most important voices in our nation's history. His voice is one of the great, great soul voices. He is the equal of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Solomon Burke. But equal to that voice is cultural presence, his grace, and his resilience, and his resistance, compassion and love are monuments to a struggle that too many have know, but too few yet understand. When we listen to Archie - truly listen - we are humbled. By embracing his story and his reality, he enriches the very fabric of our shared identity, and holds open a door for us all that leads to somewhere better. God Bless Archie Roach.
@@jerryathenas2122 I doubt you’ve heard any of the music of Burke, Cooke or Gaye, let alone failed to hear a comparison. If you had, you might know that Roach didn’t drink, whilst Gaye had massive issues with drugs and alcohol. If you’re going to troll, or merely express racist claptrap, why not at least take the time to do the barest minimum of research? And maybe you could even check your spelling, grammar and punctuation. I know ask a lot, but I appreciate an attention to detail. Or, maybe you could just keep your ill-formed brain-flatulence to yourself.
I love how, after he warms up, that stunning baritone vibrato kicks in. No matter what his health is like, he’s one of the greatest singers I’ve ever heard. Respect, Archie…
Yesterday I was at Archie's concert at the Frankston Art Center. My English is very bad. I will write in Russian. .
RIP 🪦 Archie 8/01/1956 - 30/07/22: A Remarkable 66Yr Life, ever the gentleman, at least after a long illness you are now at peace Archie, we’ll never forget ya contributions to The Australian Music Industry or the cause for indigenous recognition of The Stolen Generation of Children like this fabulous song 🎧
This is such a beautiful song- it is dripping with the misery and heartbreak that we inflicted on the Aboriginal people. It is heartbreaking and mesmerising.
Archie, you've created such a legacy for the future from the broken past. Like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, repairing cracks in pottery with gold, your songs have done this to these broken histories. Now seeing you doing this again, transforming your last precious breaths into making these golden seams, in what is left of your precious now time, i know that you are leaving us behind. I feel so sad, not for you, as you pass into your Dreamtime, a place of such pure Love, but for us, for losing you. I pray your spirit will live through your music, and your foundation, and that it will continue to pour gold into all this brokenness that is still there. I'm crying. I'm feeling the inevitability of your departing.. praying it will not be so soon. I feel so honoured to have come to know you. So sad not to have known you more.
An incredible, beautiful and moving performance. Tears are running down my face. Bless you Uncle Archie for singing this part of our country’s story so eloquently.
Congratulations Archie on your induction into the Hall of Fame. Love your music and your message. What a wonderful version of the song. Enjoyed reading your book too it has really opened my eyes- Tell Me Why
That song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it what a song. What I find really sad is the pain that Archie still suffers till this day because of what was done to him as a child and as a parent I can't comprehend someone coming in and just taking your children for you to never know where they are or if they're okay that would be heartbreaking and I have no doubt Archie's mother died of a broken heart but for Archie to find out at 15 that he had been stolen from his family and that his mother had died would've been devastating..Australia has a lot to answer to and still to this day the aboriginals and not excepted as they should be they are the oldest raice living in the world and they are the keepers of the land it's their land that was stolen and they're still fighting for justice which has to prevail ..
Healing. What strength in the words and feeling. People want to gather and listen when you voice this song. Well deserved Archie Roach. May you always go well xx
I was so Pleased to hear that this beautiful man got inducted into the Hall of Fame & every time I listen to this song I can just imagin what the Families went threw
So sad to see his health decline :( was supposed to see him on his last ever tour this year. But I guess we’re left with this performance. The amount of times he’s performed this song, yet you can still hear the emotion in his voice every time. Nothing beats watching him sing the song with nothing but his guitar.
:( he died so soon he was such a great indigenous Australian and his wife and kids hope u here this I’m so sorry for you loss and seeing him with the tube it’s so sad he was a great man everybody
Featuring: Paul Grabowsky (piano), Paul Kelly (vocal), Linda Bull (vocal), Jessica Hitchcock (vocal), Steve Magnusson (guitar), Sam Anning (bass), Dave Beck (drums), Erkki Veltheim (violin), Nola Roach (vocal).

Very sad to see the cannula there it reflects a sad lifetime of Hard Alcohol abuse.
@@jerryathenas2122 Also his cancer but by continuing to perform publicly with it in, he clearly doesn't care about how it makes him look.
@@jerryathenas2122 'a sad lifetime of trauma' might be more appropriate
@@jerryathenas2122 he’s had a lung removed champ
And a cannula goes in your arm. He’s on oxygen because of his lungs.
