- PPCLI and pipers under the Menin Gate after being awarded the "Freedom of the City," for the 3rd time in 100 years. Permission granted by the mayor of Ypres and the Chief of Police.
Thanks PPCLI. Your service is sterling among Canada's great fighting heritage. May God Bless all who served, serve, and will serve. They are the stewards of our ever-dwindling individual freedoms once taken for granted.
I have had the honour to play laments @ the memorial on 3 occaisions. Twice as a pipe band member& once on my own! A very moving experience for any Piper, i felt every piper from both wars were playing with me! John Anderson Pipe Major.
Makes me very proud to see those soldiers. I visited Menin Gate in 2017 with Wounded Warriors Canada it was a epic moment during our week in Belgium and France.
I now have a company that offers small, customized tours of Belgium, France, Italy and Netherlands. www.canadianwarhistorytours.com It's a privilege to guide people through this precious history.
Three cheers for the Canadians.
Just got back from Belgium, the last post is the best thing I've ever seen, and heard in my life. I like how the CWGC have many ceremonial
graves, and monuments. Also, love your video, very well shot.
0:51 I feel so sorry for that poor Warrant Officer who's medals fell accidentally.
he was my CSM for bold eagle 2k18
I taught him at Battle School. Great soldier!
He accomplished so much that even gravity became envy of him.
*:-)*
I noticed a couple of fellows had their beret shaped what I call *_"LER style"._*
That little bit tucked in behind the cap badge ... so elegant!

The PPCLI, the best regiment in the Canadian Army...fight me
remembering a stand by the PPCLI 8 may 1915, visited the spot and reflect
Frezenburg Ridge.
@Alexander Challis a very interesting historical read,i see after the Armistice they were in environs of MONS , where at 10:58,11/11/1918, the last allied soldier A Canadian Pte Price was sniped, have visited his grave at St Symphorian military cemetery, in same cemetery, are buried the first VC of great war Lt Dease VC, PTE'S Parr, and Ellison, possibly the first and last British soldiers to die in Great War. All these men are but a few paces from each other. may they all rest in peace. One last thing PPCLI were at Genappe and Nivelles, which at the time was part of the route Napoleon took in 1815, on his way to defeat at Waterloo. thanks for posting
Thanks! It was great to be there, and the Menin Gate is always special. If you're interested in more WWI doings please look at the Facebook page for my business, Canadian War History Tours.
Respect for the fallen heroes Lest we forget RIP
Once Patricia always Patricia
does with the bagpipes played the song named a long way to tipparerie
Yes, they're playing a medley, one of which is Tipperary.
What the ACTUAL fuck??? Look at this drummer's medal rack??? 3rd one from the right at 0:35
What a legend this one!
Wow! Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed it...in person, or after. Just focussing on doing a decent video. The Pipe Major has a few as well. They're the Edmonton Police Pipes and Drums.
Bác Tập Cận Bình vĩ đại nhất cái dải Thiên Hà này
Done the Ode a couple of times and once in uniform. Nothing quite like it.🇦🇺👍
exceptional.....thankyou to the pipes but where was the regimental band?
Sadly the Regimental bands duties have been filled by the City of Edmonton Police Pipes and Drums for a number of years now , not Many CF regiments still have funding for bands. Regimental March past isn't the Same without a Brass Band.
@@babel232 the Edmonton Police Pipes and drums volunteered en mass in 1914 on the formation of the PPCLI and have been associated with the regiment ever since.
Cut to the bone by the very fat lord-high champagne popping🍾🍾 Pooh-Bahs in bespoke suits in Ottawa...The Regt, at their own expense has retained her Drumline.
Patty's for life
Team work!!
2nd Battalion?
Very smart
Well done
what is the name of the song the band played?
I think it is a marching song "Hanging on the old barbwire", I probably have the wrong title, but that is what it sounds like to me.
@@holdingzero9686 thanks. It seems there are variants of the british song you metioned. And in the case of PPCLI, the Canadian variant is "Has anyone seen the colonel"
Been there twice 2 uncle killed at Flanders
Hopefully the WO didn't loose his rack of medals hanging by one pin.
the Pats aren't a highland regiment.
What is the name of this march?
The Patricia's Quick March Medley is:
1/''Has anyone seen the Colonel?''
2/''Tipperary''.
3/''Madmoiselle from Armentieres''.
@@RPMZ11 thank you.

Best to you all!
Slain te' M8🥃🥃
@@RPMZ11 I do play the bagpipes in a group called the Great Falls Pipe Band out of Montana.
That's terrific to hear Montana!
Trust the band is doing fine...what Tartan are you?
We were real close to the parallel, but fortune never took us down over your way.
I was 2 PPCLI...but was given the great honour to be seconded to two UK Battalons...one Scots...the other Liverpool.
We did the massive Canadian bases at Wainwright and Suffield, Alberta... Like Montana close...spectacular lands.
Cheers to you,🍻
When you are free...UA-cam.
