A line-up of light aircraft at the Joe English Memorial Fly-In today at the Flying J Ranch, Cayley Alberta. Was there with Bomber Command Museum of Canada. Joe English RIP was connected closely with the museum and was a WWII pilot whose last task was dropping great bales of food to the starving Dutch people at the end of the Hunger Winter, April 1945.

I was 2 PPCLI...but was given the great honour to be seconded to two UK Battalons...one Scots...the other Liverpool. We did the massive Canadian bases at Wainwright and Suffield, Alberta... Like Montana close...spectacular lands.       I think it is a marching song "Hanging on the old barbwire", I probably have the wrong title, but that is what it sounds like to me.

    My grandfather Private Harry Hayhurst of the York & Lancaster regiment was wounded at Frezenberg on that fateful day and was forever grateful to the Candians for treating his wounds.

    I have had the honour to play laments @ the memorial on 3 occaisions. Twice as a pipe band member& once on my own! A very moving experience for any Piper, i felt every piper from both wars were playing with me! John Anderson Pipe Major.

      Sadly the Regimental bands duties have been filled by the City of Edmonton Police Pipes and Drums for a number of years now , not Many CF regiments still have funding for bands. Regimental March past isn't the Same without a Brass Band.

      @@babel232 the Edmonton Police Pipes and drums volunteered en mass in 1914 on the formation of the PPCLI and have been associated with the regiment ever since.

      @Alexander Challis a very interesting historical read,i see after the Armistice they were in environs of MONS , where at 10:58,11/11/1918, the last allied soldier A Canadian Pte Price was sniped, have visited his grave at St Symphorian military cemetery, in same cemetery, are buried the first VC of great war Lt Dease VC, PTE'S Parr, and Ellison, possibly the first and last British soldiers to die in Great War. All these men are but a few paces from each other. may they all rest in peace.One last thing PPCLI were at Genappe and Nivelles, which at the time was part of the route Napoleon took in 1815, on his way to defeat at Waterloo. thanks for posting

    Just got back from Belgium, the last post is the best thing I've ever seen, and heard in my life. I like how the CWGC have many ceremonial graves, and monuments. Also, love your video, very well shot.
