The Victorinox Executive has been my EDC knife since 1978 when I bought my 1st one at an army barracks store in Fort Bragg, NC while visiting a friend who was in the army... LOVE that knife... not too big and easy to carry, and does pretty much everything I need on an every day basis. I lost that first knife somewhere, but I immediately replaced it with a new one... perfect for my every day needs... the orange peeler isn't used much, but I have tried it, and it works well... I just don't eat oranges that often... but the flat head screwdriver on it is great... I use the the nail cleaner for a Phillips head screwdriver a lot... and a good nail file and scissors are a must for broken finger nails, and trimming wild eye brow hairs, nose hairs, and mustaches ! Since I am sort of a knife collector, I own several Victorinox Swiss army knives, but seldom ever need all the other tools... seldom ever need a bottle opener, cork screw or, can opener, etc. I love Sambar Stag scales, and always wanted a Victorinox Executive with such scales... I will probably do my own custom scales on one. Doesn't look like Victorinox currently makes the regular old Executive model... Can't believe they are that stupid with all the other models they make... the Executive 81 is very sub-par to the original Executive... no way would I buy one !
My grandfather gave me my first SAK for my 10th birthday, I'll be 65 in July. My fav is a vintage 1980s 91mm SAK Champ. I carry a 91mm 19 function Explorer w/black scales. Thanx for sharing!
Nice info on the different sizes. I edc a Hiker ad Explorer. My grail knife is the Trekker/Trailmaster. I wish that Vic would get with the times and be even better by letting their customers have knives that are a la carte.
Thanks for returning my friend! I know what you mean about the a la carte tool combos! I'm sure you can find a Trekker/Trailmaster on the bay for pretty cheap! Cheers!
In the early 1990s I had a similar 110+mm with side lock. Mine was a BSA version I bought at summer camp. It was lost on a canoe trip. Wish I still had it.
Story and why I like SAK knives. I purchased a SAK Recruit several years ago and kept in my lunch cooler for opening various types of cans or fast simple tool usage. I really like their version of a can opener. The thing worked perfectly. At the time of purchase, I paid $7 (US) for it. Best investment for under $10 I made. Sadly, I lost it. Recently, I did purchase and upgraded my SAK knife to the Huntsman with a security clip and small locking d ring to prevent it from falling out my side mesh pocket on my soft side lunchbox/cooler. I do keep a small cheapy Leatherman type tool in small pocket because the pliers works ok, but the blades, and other accessories are not a good as SAK offers. As of yesterday, I purchased the classic SD ES, and the Tinker for my other EDC tool kit in my electronics tool kit for in the field.
There's also a 65mm category, like the Wenger Esquire. Which still lives today in the Victorinox lineup with a few models. Those give you the option of the small Wenger serrated scissors, which are really good (except they're no good on fingernails...which is why I guess it's good they have a model with nail clippers).
Thanks for the video! I love the clip point small blades... I think the 84mm model with a saw still in production is the walker...and I love it! Just as capable as the farmer but with less weight.
I've been carrying the 93mm Spartan quite a bit. I love the scissors on the Compact but the awl and Phillip's tip on the can opener are really nice to have.
The sportsman is an exceptionally great ASK and I would carry one more often if I didn't always carry a 58 mm on the keychain. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
My current set: - 58mm: SwissLite (on the keys, newer version with white LED, so actually usable as a keyhole flashlight), Rambler, Escort and Classic SD; - 84mm: Bantam Alox Silver (already very rare where I live, but got it pretty recently) - my favorite in terms of size/weight/functionality/design; - 93mm: Pioneer Silver - IMO the best as a knife per se. Also, as a Samael metal band fan, I have ordered a Samael-branded Spartan directly from Switzerland, from their official website. Still being shipped.
Great selection! And really envious of your 84mm 3layers... After a bit of rotation I ended up carrying a sportsman much of the time, and man I wish I could add scissors to it... Would be perfect! Love it much more than the tourist that I also own of course for the nail file, which ok keeps my nails in shape, bit most important... It's perfectly shaper to fit Phillips small screws! Together with the opening layer tools and a corkscrew mini driver I am basically covered for all flat, Phillips and pozidrive screws i find around. With scissors added (and maybe the hook on the back of them. .) would be the last SAK for me :(
I don't drink but I've opened wine bottles for other people and when I do it, I simply put the bottle on the *ground,* right between my feet; then I push down on the bottle with one hand and pull up with the corkscrew with the other hand. Very easy, and very stable. :)
I edc the sportsman and I absolutely love it. I also have the work champ, which I love even more, but I carry it when in nature/outdoors. It is just too big and heavy for edc. I sharpened one of the sides of the file of the sportsman (yeah, I know it is quite abusive) and now I have a file and a second blade, which works great for opening boxes and things like that.
Haha, thanks M&C!!! The Climber is definitely up there for me. I carried it 30 days straight earlier this year, which may not sound like much but it is a major feat for me, lol! I love carrying different SAKs and never want to neglect any of them for too long!! :) TFW! Cheers!!!
From all SAKS i have tested for the outdoors, the Rucksack comes out 1st and the Harvester 2nd, both in terms on how they work and how they feel. My opinion, was confirmed, when I saw that Ethan Becker, carrys a Rucksack every single day in his pocket. So, I'm not the only one, that have found, that Rucksack is special, it simply works better for the outdoors, than any other I tested. That being said, Harvester works almost that good, with the only disadvantage, that the blade doesn't lock. Why I don't like the Farmer more? Because the keyring destroys the ergos, 2nd the only reason I need the can opener, is to use the screwdriver but you will not find screws in the outdoors easy, but the second hawkbill blade of the Harvester, is truly a plus for an outdoor tool like this. Since their awls and difference on that specific tool, exist on the Rucksack and the Harvester and also the blades are different lenght etc, you can always carry both! Even the cup lifter-bottle opener is different on them! Now for Urban edc, I don't think that there is a better combo, than Spirit X with the Explorer! Explorer, was also the founders Karl Elsener personal choice... Everytime I come to a conclusion, to what I think works best, after a while I always find out, that a great guy, like the people mentioned, also agrees with my opinion. For the outdoors, you can always carry any combo, or any single tool you think will suit your needs. What I mentioned, is just my personal opinion, after testing, the SAKS I had availiable, that I got, after searching a lot, to find the best. Stay sharp but mainly...stay safe!
The Shack Jack, the one your friend modded for you, with your suggested improvements of a reamer and hook? YES PLEASE! I have my own idea for a knife also. I’d like a 91mm Huntsman or Fieldmaster, but take out the dual can opener and bottle opener layer, and sub in a combo tool and a small nail file on the same layer. If that’s not possible, then simply replace the hook on it with the hook from the Compact. Adding a nail file to the Huntsman would make it my perfect EDC. Upgrading the scales to the plus scales would also be nice.
84 mm 2 layer for pocket carry. 58 or 74 mm models for key chain carry. These days, I always have a keychain knife, and I sort of go between the Classic SD, Rally and the 74 mm executive. For pocket carry, I think the 84 mm is the perfect size for an every day light duty tool, and honestly, the mix of tools on the one and two layers is sufficient for most of my every day needs 99% of the time. I love my Cadet. Also the Waiter and Tourist are pretty cool. When I am not carrying my Cadet, those are worthy knives. I have a Recruit on order, which is pretty much a Cadet, but with plastic scales, and a secondary blade. I might try that out and see how I like it. If I were going on an extended tour someplace, then maybe a 3 layer knife like the 91 mm Climber or Huntsman might be the way to go, and then just keep it in a backpack so it doesn't get too bulky in the pocket. I have several 3 layer knives, including a Camper, a Climber and a Wenger Traveler. I keep the Wenger in my car, and the other 3 layers are in my house, so they are nice knives, but i just don't need that mix of tools every day, and smaller and thinner is usually better.
Thank you for the great video. This size comparison was exactly what I was looking for. My 2 current edc's are the 91mm Climber and Huntsman, red scales. I'm thinking a little smaller in Alox or wood for dressier occassions. Got to have can opener and scissors, though. Your video has helped me with size, for sure.
My first 111 is just like yours. Cannot remember when I bought it. But mine has a saw, I have used a lot over the years. I brother cork screw with the cut was discontinued around 1984 at least for the 91mm versions. I have 10 of em but cannot find a Swedish military 111 model.
I have had many of them since very childhood. I found Ranger Wood 55 to be my best suit. It’s a real deal. And when it comes to hunting knives. I found Hunter Pro (Wood and orange rubber models) really effective. And if I wanna chose a small one, for sure one of new Swiza models will be my choice. They look great and I held one for some moments, felt perfect.
I usually get them on eBay from china. I prefer the cheap ones because the softer metal is easier on soft clothing materials They're available on Amazon as well. Just type Pocket suspension clip and you should be able to find a big selection. Cheers!
I seldom invest 18 minutes in video watching but I have to say it was well worth the time listening to you as you love on your SAKs! Great job and great presentation!
The names of the knives do not match the measurmets, 91 mm is basically the largesr one wih the clasic style. The MM is width (used by the whole worls exceopt America). It is .91 cms thick.
Hello Nice collection but UA-cam Forget the 130 MM size Like the ranger grip 79 I edc leatherman rebat With victorinox compact 😍 For the a la carte i would like a compact and a yeoman one hand opening in 111mm😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks, Jack. I actually did mention the 130mm in the first 0:20 of the video, I just don't own any and never have. The combos you mentioned seem very formidable. Take care, cheers!
Victorinox Swiss Army, does not make a Wood Carving knife that has two carving blades, a saw, and a large roughing blade. Blades that have 58 or better Rockwell hardness or 440 or better stainless steel. Just three slots (not sure what they are called) handles. that are rounded for comfort, with locking blades. Folded no more than 3 1/2 inches long. If all the carvers out there will unite and keep bugging Vicky about it, I am sure they will listen.
Hahaha! OMG! I totally agree with you about the sizes. I was thinking that I was alone in the world. I've asked a few sak experts the real reason about the 84mm series. A lot of business complexity only for 7mm of difference. But nobody really knows, Do you know it? I feel better the 84mm in my pocket and in my hand too (and I don't have a small hands). The proportion of the knife is better for me too. And always, less is more in EDC. I've been carryng saks for more than 25 years and I've a good collection of it and, at the end, I carry 84 for de city and home and 91 or 111 for outdoors. For city, Sportsman first (I modified the rear scale to fit the ballpen),the cadet (in silver if I feel gentelman or in used black if I feel more tactical XD). For the office, the alox bantan is the winner. For outdoor, just for one day 91 huntsman is the best. For more days, 111 with saw I think is better. Oh man, I feel envy when I see the 3 layers in 84mm. The sportsman plus withs scissors would be the perfect for me. Where do you find it? I have writed several times to Victorinox asking why not a cadet, tourist, sportsman, small tinker or a with scissors. This would be a top sales! No reply. I cover this lack carryng a MidniteManager in my keys (the same for more 20years) and a Swisscard Lite in my wallet. Before internet, a MidniteManager in my Keys and a waiter was my perfect EDC. Thanks for you videos making reflections about the sak's world. I enjoy a lot. PS: Go for the Walker! Great for childrens and small walks with the dog :-)
Hey Guillem! Thanks for watching! Great comment! Unfortunately they stopped making the 84mm scissors in the mid to late 80's. I can stand behind your choices for various environments! I also carry a Manager and sometimes a red Midnite Manager. I had the old version of the Walker, the Lumberjack, and combined it with an 84mm Golfer to make the custom ShackJack 12:39 It is indeed a SAK world! :) Cheers!!!
Btw, I do know that they offered the two sizes since at least the very early 20th century, like 1903. I tend to think it's a goldilocks type of phenomenon, one must find the one just right for oneself. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining. :)
If there was an 84mm Compact, I’d never go anywhere without it. For now though, 91mm Compact it is. I just wish it had something, anything other than the corkscrew! 😆
What good is a knife if you don’t carry and use it? I have no safe queens I do have duplicates of some of my favorite models but that so if I misplace one or if a baggage handler get sticky fingers I have one on hand.😎
@@swissarmydan9354 Hard to find bro. Was looking for one for nostalgia reasons as I lost mine in the mid-90s. Second hand GAKs advertised on ebay aren't always clear about which manufacturer they're from. Those advertised as definitely Vic are few and far between, very worn (ground) down and expensive. Hope you found one though for your collection.
A Voyageur might be my grail SAK. I don't know for sure as I've never had one in hand. I've also never had an Alox Bantam in hand so I don't know if an Alox 84 that is that thin is easy to use. I guess it's at least okay for occasional use.
Good to see you again, my friend! You could always seek out someone to do a Voyageur mod for you if you can find some 84mm scissors. You're right, I would recommend the alox Bantam for quick/light jobs. Not the most comfortable purchase for heavier jobs. Thanks for returning! Cheers!!
Did they ever make a knife where the main blade does not lock in the open position. I have one knife where the main blade is not steady. It flip flops, up and down about 30 degrees. I need to place my finger on it to hold it steady - fully open. ???
Sal Sepulveda Most Swiss Army Knife blades do not ‘lock’ (they are ‘slip joints’) the spring tension resists accidental closure. Some do lock- there are a few types. Wengers and some of the larger SAKs have different versions. These are mechanical and need to be disengaged for the blade to close. It sounds like you have bad blade play - maybe a damaged back spring- the blade should ‘snap’ open and closed and require a definitive push or pull to close or open it.
I have been looking for a older Picnicker because I'm collecting the McGuyver knives.McGuyver is a great show,my Wife and I watch the old shows all the time and we are not even 50.lolWow,synthetic corks,I though self check outs was too much.lol
You're absolutely right, I put the edit in the details. It's funny, I have a video solely dedicated to the salesman and still made the mistake. Thanks for watching! !
Like you're review. First ttime viewer. Wenger had a great knife called an Evo, with a locking main blade lever...I have only two of them...same magic...can you do a review on this knife ? I think it's very unique.
Top tip: carry a Classic in conjunction with your Alox model for tweezers and small scissors. It weighs next to nothing (21g or 3/4 oz) and disappears in a coin pocket. Farmer + Classic is my EDC.
Yeah I think it was lost when my parents moved out of their house while I was in college, along with a classic and a tinker. The good thing is I've replaced it with a couple hundred other ones, LOL and I've given my dad several to sew I returned balance to the universe 🤣
I’m going to forgive you for this... eventually. JK! There are plenty of SAK’s with neither of those features to choose from. Thanks for watching! Cheers!
The corkscrew is great for undoing knots. I’ve used a micro engraver to add a ruler to the back of my nail file. Personally it’s the bottle opener I would pass on.
I recently undid a very small and tight knot on one of my shoestrings with one of my swiss army knives' corkscrews. Mostly though my Camping corkscrew is on my kitchen table for opening wine bottles. 3:27 3:27
BREAKING NEWS: "MOD DEP” is an abbreviation for the modèle depose (French), which basically means patent pending.
I have the smallest one from Easter
While MacGyver did use the Executive in some episodes, the Tinker was his most used SAK.
Tinker or Tinker small though?
@@Thirsty_Fox Small tinker

Awesome collection Dan! Love the 84mm with scissors, truly Swiss Army knives heaven as you say! Cheers!
Hahaha, thanks for watching, my friend! Cheers!
I've been all about the Executive for the last 30+ years. Love the citrus peeler! Before that the 'Classic'. Scissors are a must for EDC.
My current set:
- 58mm: SwissLite (on the keys, newer version with white LED, so actually usable as a keyhole flashlight), Rambler, Escort and Classic SD;

Hi Dan could you do a video on the most basic EDC Swiss army knifes. Thanks kyle like the recruit walker bantam waiter
Very cool collection. Do you happen to have a line on where to get a Climber small or Alumnus (sportsman with scissors)?
My OCD twitches every time I see the emblem upside down... 😬
Look at the packaging on the left. You'll get it. I hope...

Where do you get the pocket clips from that attach to the split ring ?
My personalized one didn't come with a corkscrew screwdriver
The Nail Clip 580 from Wenger, is 65 mm. Just saying.
84mm All the Way Dan 👍👍. There Perfect in the Pocket and in the Hand 😎👍
Really useful thanks.
Can u suggest any substitute for the Compact as I m unable to find the Compact???
Great video.
Thomas Chainey thanks for watching!!! Cheers!
is it just me or is this the first "my favorite SAKs" video I've seen that didn't include the Compact lol
Where do I find that Lego?! Gotta have one! Thanks from sunny, 70 degree South Carolina!
I love the 85 mm models I carry a s101
They are quite charming. I carry a Evo 10 sometimes. Cheers!
Awesome selection of Swiss army knives I have the Handy man now Thanks for sharing ATB
Thanks for watching my friend! The handyman has all you need and nothing you don't! Cheers!
I have the handyman too
Which I prefer
for edc
I have also a Hercules but I would recommend the workchamp
for backpacking
Very good video. Like!
Thank you for stopping by, my friend! Cheers!
I'm with you all the way on the 84mm. I can't say why but I just love 'em!
Haha! That's awesome. Thanks for watching, Richard!
You make great videos! And habe an awesome collection! 😱
Thanks for the support Anita!!! Cheers!
@@swissarmydan9354 your welcome. You have the best content about SAK's on UA-cam! 👍🏼👍🏼
Hello Nice collection but UA-cam Forget the 130 MM size Like the ranger grip 79
I edc leatherman rebat With victorinox compact 😍
For the a la carte i would like a compact and a yeoman one hand opening in 111mm😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love that 111mm. but got to say that for me 91mm. is the perfect measure for a EDC SAK. Great vid buddy, cheers!!!
I must admit, sometimes that extra 7mm comes in handy. Thanks for continued support, my friend! Cheers!!!
If there was an 84mm Compact, I’d never go anywhere without it. For now though, 91mm Compact it is. I just wish it had something, anything other than the corkscrew! 😆
Dan do you have a stay glow climber in your collection
You bet I do! It's a fav. Thanks for watching! Cheers!!
Its Kanton luzern ! 😊👍. Nice vídeo!!!
Thank you for the clarification and thanks for watching! Cheers!
What good is a knife if you don’t carry and use it? I have no safe queens I do have duplicates of some of my favorite models but that so if I misplace one or if a baggage handler get sticky fingers I have one on hand.😎
111mm in my backpack
91mm in my pocket
58mm on my keychain
9mm on my side 😎
My dad's got a Wenger Angler (4 layer). Are they worth anything nowadays?
How about the Victorinox Sportrachet
Do you happen to have the SAK rescue tool? It's a. Awesome thing. Would love a review from you.
Thanks for watching! Always wanted one, especially just to keep in das Auto, but haven’t scored one yet
I'm All about the Lego SAK 😎👍
I also like the slide lock! I wish they were still available! Great video Dan👍😃👍
Thanks for stopping by, my friend! Cheers!
Do you have any of the 108 mm safari range?
Had a trooper but traded it, I'll have to get a 108mm gak. Thanks for watching!
Cheers!!
One size fits all.
Sounds like the backspring is broken on that one
I have been looking for a older Picnicker because I'm collecting the McGuyver knives.McGuyver is a great show,my Wife and I watch the old shows all the time and we are not even 50.lolWow,synthetic corks,I though self check outs was too much.lol
That mod is great!
Thanks Matt, it’s definitely a favorite of mine. Thank you for watching, cheers!
Many countries ban locking blade. It is illegal, if you carry and the cop find you processing it.
Am I wrong but isn't that Artisan a Salesman..?
You're absolutely right, I put the edit in the details. It's funny, I have a video solely dedicated to the salesman and still made the mistake. Thanks for watching! !
Hey I learned most of my SAK knowledge from you Dan, thanks for making the videos
And I should have read the edits..
@@Rangefindergeneral No worries!!!
Like you're review. First ttime viewer. Wenger had a great knife called an Evo, with a locking main blade lever...I have only two of them...same magic...can you do a review on this knife ? I think it's very unique.
Ahhh yea. love it
The first time, the very first day I carried an Alox instead I got a splinter, lesson learned!
Top tip: carry a Classic in conjunction with your Alox model for tweezers and small scissors. It weighs next to nothing (21g or 3/4 oz) and disappears in a coin pocket. Farmer + Classic is my EDC.
You can even just carry the tweezers in a wallet or phone case. They'll tuck in just about anywhere.
Thats my favorite locking blade
Just somthing about that handle shape to
I guess I'm first. A very Interesting review. Thanks Dan. 😎👍
Thanks for being first, Rick!!! I know there are more than a couple mistakes in this one, just trying to keep things interesting. :) Cheers!!!
Good video. What suspension clips are those?
The cheap ones on eBay! :) thanks for watching!

you didnt show the lego looking one :(
He did, at 8:07...
Hi which one is legal in New York??
Not an expert but from what I understand, any folding SAK would be fine. Spring assist and fixed blades over 4" are illegal to carry. Tfw! Cheers!!
Swiss Army Dan thanks
An Adventurer ‘ that your dad gave you that you don’t have any more’? What happened? Did you lose it? 😥
Yeah I think it was lost when my parents moved out of their house while I was in college, along with a classic and a tinker. The good thing is I've replaced it with a couple hundred other ones, LOL and I've given my dad several to sew I returned balance to the universe 🤣
cool
You missed the 65 mm SAKs. Good video though
I really don't understand the need for a nail file or cork screw. Seriously time to get rid of those features and replace with something useful.
