I know for Japan and some other cultures that white symbolizes death. I’m assuming red means passion or life. They guide him to become stronger and give him rest in the hot springs.
I think killing shimura is more in character because he knows what the consequences would be I think his mother is in his flute too. That’s why the weather changes when played
@@meinctutweh4103 Killing Shimura makes no sense, Jin isn't a samurai anymore so not honored bound to kill Shimura nor does he want to, his whole transformation is abandoning honor in order to save lives; and with Shimura remaining as Jito it's actually far more likely that Jin will still have relative safety on Tsushima just gotta stay in the shadows and out of the Jito's way. Had Shimura been dead and the Shogun named someone new, the new Jito will definitely be out in force to come after Jin in order to establish himself.
Also, the moment when Yuna asks Jin if he's ok after stabbing the first Mongol in the back at the beginning of the game, Jin's facial expression goes beautifully from a sense of self-loathing and shock to a poker face out of necessity and the fact that as Samurai, he should at least conceal his emotions.
@@meinctutweh4103 the game works in the samurai movie logic where honor is way more of a thing than it was irl If you just did what the shogun told you to do you were considered honorable irl, in movies and by extension in the game there's more of a actual code and way of life about it
With how fast he went through all the missions, it made me realize just how much side content is in this game. It all fits so naturally, and most of it is actually fun! Honestly in this game, it feels more like you take a break from side content to do some main story missions, rather then the other way around.
Some of the side stories are so powerful… a family who failed to flee, a father guilty over ratting out his own son, samurai failing to reach the top of the mountain for a legendary myth. - it’s amazing
It is really heartbreaking how game journalists and awards do injustice to such masterpiece. This games touches my heart to such extend that I cannot explain.
I liked how both Jin and Shimura both throw away their respective saya (sheath) before the fight. They convey their intent to fight to the death, as they won't need to put away their swords later. There's a lot of respect for the other's abilities, but also the recognition that life is fleeting, uncertain... as we're reminded many times throughout the game. Wonderful game, that one.
"Star Wars: A New Wipe!" "Star Wars: The Wipe Strikes Back!"' "Star Wars: Return of the Wipe!" Funny when you remember the transition wipes in those films were taken from Kurosawa's films.
Lucas was shameless (in a good way) with his influences, Kurosawa and most Japanese cinema. Zatoichi is one, I HIGHLY suggest looking it up. Alongside his days as a street racer, he tried to join the air force and he had so many tickets they didn't want him. The balance the Force tries to achieve and the fact that it seems to be pseudo thinking is also something you tend to see in Asian religion.

One of my favorite things that happens when we unfortunately lose our horse, is the emotion that is built inside us. Rage, hate, despair, etc. and then we hear that beautiful, masterpiece of a score. “The Way of the Ghost” together with the objective we’ve been wanting to see the entire game. “Kill the Khan”. What an absolutely remarkable game. Incredible job Sucker Punch.
What I REALLY love about this game is how the final battle with the Khan isn't treated like how boss battles are usually treated. In fact, in this case, the game made it seem like JIN is the final boss
14:06 the PS5 version is breathtaking man! I've played the PS4 version and I thought the game was beautiful then. The PS5 version took that beauty and elevated it to a MILLION! I love this game so much that I got the platinum trophy for the PS4 version and the PS5 version! The Iki island DLC is also a great addition.
What people are forgetting to mention about this game is how the gameplay evolved with the story. At the beginning you only have your sword and fighting skills. When you're still a Samurai. When you've unlocked all the tools and tricks of the assassin/rogue/stalker, you've gotten to the point in the story where you're more the Ghost. Most games have a fairly arbitrary reason for why your character becomes stronger and can use more abilities and tools over timed. But in GoT you have access to more abilities and tools as Jin realizes he needs to "cheat" in order to win in combat (and not have hostages executed).
Taka calls it a kaginawa not a takenawa (if you play with subtitles you can see what he calls it). Kagi meaning hook nawa meaning rope and a kaginawa was actually a grappling hook used by samurai class warriors during feudal Japan so this is actually Jin receiving the first ever kaginawa which is awesome. Technically he could've also be given the first ever katana since I think the katana was actually created as a response to the threat of the Mongol empire but that one I'm not as sure on so if anyone in the comments knows more, please correct me
The katana was made I think a hundred years or two after the second Mongol invasion. And more of came as a result of a shift by samurai to being more infantry based soldiers. The older and longer Tachi which served as the sidearm on horseback, was good there. But on foot, a shorter sword was preferred as a backup weapon.
@@kaijuslayer3334 Which is why a katana was always accompanied by either a Kodachi(a smaller katana) a Wakizashi(even shorter katana, almost a knife) or a Tanto knife
Even thought he didn't say it Jin's sword had lightning and storm visuals on it which shows that the mongols were defeated by a two storms , the storm on the waters and the Storm of Clan Sakai (he nice the blades name). I absolutely love the small details sucker punch out in, especially visual aspects that have further meaning in the story.

Keep up what you're doing, this channel is definitely a win!
I always liked the other ending instead. Not killing Shimura and fully embracing the ghost to him felt I think more climatic than killing him. It kind of reminded me to the ending of The Dark Knight where he chooses to be the villain to save his home. Killing him is tragic but leaving him alive and then knowing they can’t be the same as they once and must be enemies due to their own senses of honor feels more in line to me.
I totally agree; this game was totally glossed over. It should have won every category is was up for. I don't care what the Game Awards say; this was the Game of the Year!
one of my favorite aspect that was not mentioned, due to the fact you most likely didn't know and there's no hint to it, but if you bow to taka's and your first horse grave you get unique effect appears. and if you bow to dead people corpses (that aren't mongol) jin says something and that is something I love.
"Whatever the Khan is doing to keep the torches lit... awesome. Keep doing that Khotun." LOL, that was my favorite line. Made me laugh even in the face of Jin's dispair.
Fun fact: the volley of arrow throwers were made in ancient Korea and they are known as Hwacha (in the joseon dynasty) . Basically throwing the fact that the mongols conquered Korea and controlled their naval ships , cavalry to invade Japan .
Yeah, was surprised myself when I 1st learned that the Hwacha was a Korean invention -- & there's a cool segment of Mythbusters where they build a functional replica of a Hwacha so they can put it to the test (result: it's not super-accurate BUT it's clearly devastating if used against large infantry formations).
4:12 made me fall in love with this game INSTANTLY. The voice acting, gameplay, graphics, story, score, this has to be my new favourite game of all time.
Never heard English version before. Never understood how others were interpreting Jin as flat, but it makes sense to me now. English Jin doesn’t have the same grittiness and fire present in Japanese language Jin at all. Feels like an entirely different character.
I played the English version and it makes sense that Jin has a flat voice, but then, he starts showing emotions the more the story progresses. Japanese version just reminds me of Roronoa Zoro and I can't separate the characters (it's my fault ik) 😭
One thing about this game, ive never been more immersed into a games world like this one. I felt like i was creating a legendary tale that would be told by generations, where as time goes by it gets more mythical and wonderous. I felt the need to play the game naturally, not spamming buttons and throwing shit out, but instead taking my time and playing via intelligent swordplay and playing it like a real fight. God this game is so good, i really think we'll never get another game like this, thank you sucker punch, seriously.
What I like about this channel, especially in comparison to Gaming Sins, is that the narrator is very enthusiastic as opposed to Dartigan's deadpan humor (which is not a criticism). Well done!
21:44 I thought of it like this in my playtrough: The mongols were defeated by a storm in history, and your sword of Sakai reads "The storm of clan Sakai". JIN is the storm that defeats the mongols. I thought that was poetic.
I noticed that when the game uses wipes, you give a win about it reminding you of Star Wars. I just wanted to mentions that I think the game is actually giving an homage to the filmmaker Kurosawa, who often employed wipes and also made many movies about samurai (he was an incredibly popular filmmaker). George Lucas has also mentioned that he was heavily inspired by Kurosawa when making Star Wars so that's why it also uses wipes. Just wanted to mention this as I think it gives the game more respect and also is a cool tidbit about Star Wars. Keep up the good work!
This game has changed my life. 10/10 Samurai Batman is awesome Also I think it’s funny that a game centered around the concept of honor is made by a company named “sucker punch”
One thing I noticed is whichever ending you choose, it was a subtle hint of the which colors you would get since if you would kill shimura when he kneels on the white pedals to kill him, or spare him and have the red pedals flow around you as you walk away
for anybody wondering what the instrument is at 4:12 , it is called a biwa, used often by japanese storytellers (also used by those in mythic tales). specifically, the closest thing i can find to that exact score is the beginning of the tale Nasu no Yoichi, a story of a samurai who in battle, and in rocking water, hit a small fan held off the ship of an enemy group with a single shot.
This game was so immersive for me before, and this video taught me things I never knew existed within the game or was even implied. Thank you so much for making this video, as Ghost of Tsushima was and always will be my absolute MOST favorite and reccomended game until I die.

Yeah, this was a fantastic game, I loved most the parts where we went to shrines to pray to the shinto pantheon for assistance and getting stuff that genuinely helped, which is again the supernatural at work, we also see it with Jin's patron god Inari the god of foxes and some other stuff when we followed the foxes, I also really loved doing the Haiku's, the first thing I found was one of those Haiku's, that final Haiku "Eyes that saw my pain, A bond broken forever... This is where we part", I legit cried at that part, I couldn't bring myself to kill him, so I got the spare him ending.
Jin is the waterfall, restless, fluid, twisted by every turn. And yet, he evaporates from the endless heat of his emotions. He needs serenity, the virtue of Clan Shimura. Shimura is the mountain, serene and solid. And yet, passing time wears him down permanently. He needs rebirth, the virtue of Clan Sakai. Balance, the Mountain and Waterfall living together in harmony. If only that actually happened. Instead, because of pride and enmity, the waterfall dried up, and the mountain crumbled to the ground. A wasteland left in their wake. 😔 An island saved, but at what cost?

8:01 I know it's not much, but I absolutely ADORE how they show the difference nobility and peasants through small detail like Jin and Yuna's swords, Yuna's (a peasant) is all ragged and has a rough wrapped hilt while Jin's (a noble) is all pristine white and decorated
Listening to you talk about games and what makes them great, is what makes me want to play these games and feel these emotions for myself, thats a win.
I mixed it up a little with the combat, using my gadgets as well as my sword. Even though it's not as powerful, I chose to spare Lord Shimura because by the game's end, Jin's not a samurai anymore. He's something more...
This is one of the very few games where the gameplay had me completely hooked. While I was a few months behind buying it, once I began it was hard to put down. The progression through the game is rewarding and even wanting to get the platinum trophy was a fun challenge. Where this game (for me) let me know that I was hooked, was when I went back to beat it again under new game+. It felt even better a second time even taking a different approach to the missions and liberating Tsushima. This game will forever be my game of the year.

Infamous second son is great but god was making D.U.P not spawn anymore when you clear out the areas a bad decision. Once you finish that you cannot use concrete powers at all, there's no one to fight and nothing to do. I haven't playing GoT, but I really hope it doesn't make the same mistake

@@moonsets-on_you I feel that Jin would not because he already left the code behind to do what he believes is right. He would refuse his uncle’s death wish to spare his last remaining blood relative. I don’t hate your reasoning though.

I'm surprised he didn't in "honor died on the beach" and the conversation before your second duel with Ryuzo. "I've lost everything except you" followed by Jin losing all composure. You can feel how much they loved each other. "after everything you've done" is one of my favorite lines. And then Ryuzo's last words just begging for Jin's forgiveness.

As a real samurai he would be used to stabbing. Only in the game it’s wrong

I really love how the NPCs follow your pace, walking or sprinting.

Funny when you remember the transition wipes in those films were taken from Kurosawa's films.
Lucas was shameless (in a good way) with his influences, Kurosawa and most Japanese cinema. Zatoichi is one, I HIGHLY suggest looking it up. Alongside his days as a street racer, he tried to join the air force and he had so many tickets they didn't want him.
Broo you just blew my mind
14:06 the PS5 version is breathtaking man! I've played the PS4 version and I thought the game was beautiful then. The PS5 version took that beauty and elevated it to a MILLION! I love this game so much that I got the platinum trophy for the PS4 version and the PS5 version! The Iki island DLC is also a great addition.
I’m currently replaying the game on PS5 and I couldn’t agree more. The visuals got boosted way beyond anything I could have imagined

I doubt you'll see this but oh well. This is the first video I've ever watched of yours, but I'm ALREADY subscribing. Ghost of Tsushima is the Game of Year 2020 for me, and the way you did it justice cannot be comprehended. I'm currently making a series on Ghost of Tsushima and I try to point out awesome things in the game, but this video just puts all of that to shame.
I really like how this man completed Ghost of Tsushima without increasing his health or resolve. Really impressive stuff.
"Whatever the Khan is doing to keep the torches lit... awesome. Keep doing that Khotun." LOL, that was my favorite line. Made me laugh even in the face of Jin's dispair.
Please keep making these man I love watching these
Takas death was definitely the saddest death in gaming of 2020 R.I.P
The fact that they changed the loading screen to his headband

As someone who played it in both I have no idea how anyone can call Jin flat, just because he’s a reserved person doesn’t mean he’s boring
I played the English version and it makes sense that Jin has a flat voice, but then, he starts showing emotions the more the story progresses. Japanese version just reminds me of Roronoa Zoro and I can't separate the characters (it's my fault ik) 😭
I’v been looking for a channel like this.
And I love it.😊
Yay! Thank you!
I carried Jinn with the attitude of "If the Shogun wants my head, he can come and get it himself" towards the end.
And 6:13 had the hairs standing on my arms, such an unforgettable intro that will stick with me forever.
I get goosebumps every time 😂
This game has changed my life. 10/10 Samurai Batman is awesome
Also I think it’s funny that a game centered around the concept of honor is made by a company named “sucker punch”
I've never had as much fun playing a game for the first than I did with Ghost of Tsushima. The excellent swordplay makes you feel so badass during every combat encounter. At least for me it did.
