It is as long as the however the door opens means using the sink is still easy. When washing up you are likely to keep the door open so having one you’re likely to hit your head on would be annoying.
@@TessaOswin The cupboard above my sink is perfectly positioned for me to put my iPad on the bottom shelf so I can watch things while I wash up :D The door opens so it’s flush to the wall, so it’s (mostly) safe from me hitting my head! Though I have just realised that if I copy this draining cupboard idea in my own kitchen, I’ll lose the iPad shelf, which would be a tragedy… maybe I’ll keep my iPad shelf, and convert the next door cupboard above the draining board into my drying cupboard 😀
Yes! Totally agree! They have it on ikea in some countries. I'm from Sweden and here we don't have it. I am just now getting a new ikea kitchen and I found it on Amazon, for 4x the price but still worth it. Originally it's meant to have that shelf bottomless, so that water can drop down in the sink. I decided to not make it that way, cause that would prevent me from having spotlights integrated underneath. I thought it was important to be able to have lights under the top shelves, especially over the sink to get light when doing dishes. There is something to put in the cupboard to collect the water dropping, so I'm hoping that will be enough to prevent the cupboard from getting water damage. How did you do it.? Did you also keep the bottom of it?
@@liahk1000 You don't need to remove the whole bottom of the cabinet. I hate the IKEA drying racks because they butchered our invention. In our 50's Finnish apartment our cubboard is half cut out from just the middle to accomodate a V-shaped first drying layer (shaped for plates ect). To mention: our cabinets are on the longer side (sideways) and thinner in depth than some newer cabinets might me. They are original vintage cabinates and are worth way more than new ones in the long run. My grandma used to have the same cabinet style and she had a long spotlight under the cabinet. It fit there just fine. I find the modern styled drying cabinet solutions to be utter garbage. Just take the whole cubboard innards down, put some wooden blocks to where you want your layers. Then make the actual rack yourself or have one made custom (very very easy make) and have it dipped in rubber. This is so the metal wire/rod won't scratch the plates while you still have a little bend. If you get the bottom layer to have a V-shape then cut out a cabinet bottom in a way that the V can still peek out about 3cm. This way you can hang cleaning brushes to the rack. Second layer is usually just straight for cups and whatnot. We have a third layer made from wood that just holds some crapand random things used for baking and painting (I use water activated paints). Spotlights can then be installed in the space left behing the V-cutout. Don't go and buy retractable versions of these racks. Never do it! If that breaks it's way harder to fix. With our version it's pretty much foolproof and fixing would be very very easy (basically just soldering it back up if it breaks in half).
I love every single thing in this kitchen design. The marble backsplash, the tight and precise wall of appliances from the sink to the dishwasher to the clothes washer. Also integrating the pillar into the design is perfect. The island is exactly what I would want in my dream kitchen, not to gush over-dramatically.
It’s a shame IKEA don’t care about their customers. They could be a really amazing company, but we had a kitchen fitted nearly 2 years ago now and they made such a terrible mess of it, drilled through a water pipe in our wall leaving us without heating in winter, then ignored emails and wouldn’t sort our complaint out. We had to pay out of our own pocket to do the plumbing even though IKEA were supposed to sort that. 2 years later it’s still not solved. We had units missing handles and they were just totally incompetent. We have continuously been trying to sort this out and IKEA are proving no help whatsoever. There’s no contact number or way to communicate with IKEA and comments arw turned off on nearly all their social media channels which suggests to me that there are many customers in a similar situation to us. As an IKEA specialist I would be really grateful if you could tell me the bast route to get this solved.
Absolutely stunning and functional, even love the way you integrated the vent hood over the induction range top .. just brilliantly done .. so often I see architects design bananas bonkers bs redos that the owner might like but will actually detract from resale value bc it’s just toooooo specific to the owner and not future potential buyers .. this is not only functional and beautiful but any other future buyer would love Love LOVE this! Just amazing all around
Yes I agree!! I'm just doing a new kitchen for the first time with no previous experience at all, and wow it takes so much time to think through everything! To get it right both from an esthetic perspective and functional! That's definitely not easy! I have so much respect for you architects who are able to find smart solutions etc! It's so helpful to have a well functional kitchen 😊
I really love the kitchen, well done!! Now, what we want is a video where you organize the drawers and cabinets with stuff like hanging the mugs or organizing the pan's lids etc... you can find cool items at ikea for all of that! Looking forward to this video...
You have done such a beautiful job on that kitchen - all clean lines, it must be such a soothing space to be in. *looks around her own chaotic kitchen and sighs*
I really love the concept of having those sort of “build in” fridge, freezer and dishwasher making it looks so neat and and tidy. Wish I could have those in my future home too
Great work. It's beautiful, very minimalistic and yet fully functional! It's well planned and designed down to the smallest details. The only thing I would add is a bit of color like a smal plant, something that adds a visual interest

Fantastic work! So many little storage tricks adding up to make a great finished product. Especially love the cutlery storage contained within the larger drawer!
I like very much the design of the extractor fan/cooker hood. All over Scandanavia and especially here in Finland, the drying rack cupboard is standard, especially in the larger cities where space saving is necessary due to properties being smaller. This is the first time I see the drainage rack outside this part of the world. 😊
This kitchen is simple and functional, just the way it's meant to be. Great video, great work, keep it up, man, I'm a Civil Engineer, and you're a big source of inspiration, thanks a lot!
Great video. Lovely kitchen! I would move the seating slightly off the wall, which would probably create the illusion of more space. But I really like how neat everything in your home looks!
Well done! I love this kitchen! It has and does everything you need it to. I also did a drainage rack on the wall in my NYC kitchen in the 80s--it is a brilliant idea!
This is a great video. Can you do one on bathroom design please? I’d love to see how you’d apply your minimalist, clean aesthetic to a smaller bathroom design need. 🤞👍
where did you get the fridge that could be integrated like that. I was watching videos of "future" houses from the 40's and integrated everything is the concept I long for.
I love this! Me and my family are in the process of getting a new house. But my parents aren't minimalists and aren't always on the idea of functionality over design.
i need the fridge freezer!!! no local stores sells that one in reasonable price in my country. normal fridge will have to have distances from wall because the machine (?) is on the back
Great design! Any chance you could share the extractor fan model you used? It fits perfectly, but not Ikea's Underverk model that I'm currently considering. Also impressed with the way you cut into the ikea cupboard housing the undfloor heating manifold. I'm trying to do the same without compromising the structural integrity of the carcass. Thank goodness for the rails they're hung from!

Awesome Daniel! This just showed up in my feed. Totally something I would subscribe to. Fabulous kitchen layout. And although I am the other end of the spectrum (maximalist) I appreciate a perfectly and well thought out kitchen! My only question is why not extend worktop on the 'island' out to have bar seating? Would it impede the walking space to outside?
Thanks Bethany! I'm glad you liked it. I really wanted the countertop to align with the structure of the existing house, which meant that it wasn't easy to detail an overhang for bar seating. I definitely thought about it though! :)
Really great ideas! And good editing, very nice to watch. I also like how honest you were about it, haha! The fridge part made me laugh. A kitchen is going to be used if you cook, so...:)

It’s so sad that their white cooktop isn’t available in North America.
