Just bought some of your di resin bulk bag. I was just wondering if i need to flush it before using the portion of the water that goes in my tank. And if so for how many gallons. Thank you guys so much.
Ball canning company makes a funnel with a larger size hole which is perfect for use with the canisters. All grocery stores and big box stores that carry Ball will have them.., and they are very inexpensive. Keep up the great work.
Just had to redo a di canister due to it not being 100% filled and packed solid. Kept getting tds after my di when I started up my rodi. Easy mistake to make.
Hey guys I have a question for you, in mine RDO when should I change the membranes or the filter, my meter right now is at 0.43 but my LFS owner can't answer that question since he replaced all his way before that numbers that I have, ("he said that") Thank You in advance, you guys teach me a LOT
The best way to refilling the resin cartridge? Us a canning funnel. Perfect fit for the standard width cartridges and keeps the threads clean. Gotta love canning season!
Can you guys make a video of what is the first thing to do if your coral is not looking good. Even when everything is stable in the tank and after multiple dips.
Okay, so I was thinking about the same question here. I did reach out to BRS and this was the response I received; New resin installation does not require flushing. The only filters that flushing is recommended is for sediment, carbon block and membrane filters.
Is having a water supply ball valve before or after the unit more ideal? I have it before the unit at the moment and I noticed that my resin goes half dry which the blue on top is turning into a light blue not it’s original dark blue and it looks to be only about halfway used up
I have 3 DI resin canisters, first is all brown now and showing 1 TDS rest are not changing color yet when should I change 1st canister? Note. I am getting 0 TDS product still.
If they're all standard mixed bed resin, we would suggest changing out that first depleted cartridge. Move cartridge 2 and 3 into spot 1 and 2 so that you're always following a first in, first out rotation.
anyone knows if BRS products are sold somewhere in switzerland? It would cost too much to import it but i would really like to get my hands on some of these products
Hey Guys I have a question, How do you treat brown algae diatoms? I noticed it for the first time today, is it good is it bad? Should I get rid of it & how??? Please help
That's such a tough question to answer because every water supply is different. Some users with high CO2 concentrations in their water may get less than 100 gallon gallons from a cartridge. Others will low amounts of contaminants may get several hundred gallons out of one cartridge.
Great job. Awesome to see you at the RAP orlando show. I want to make a suggestion. I'd love to know more about mixed bed only resin stages VS specialty mixes to be placed ahead of your existing DI resin final cartridge, to increase the life of your downstream DI cartridge. I run a specialty ahead of two stages of normal di resin and suspect i get much more life. But i don't know what there made of and i have never ran a side by side comparison. Should be an easy test. Side by side see which one hits 1 TDS first. maybe even a savings over the life info as well. I make alot of RODI. its a good place to save money for most hobbiest i think if these specialty carriages target what consumes most of our users DI for less over all cost. a specific unnamed competitor claims some of the following from such custom blended cartridges - 4 times the removal efficiency of conventional Mixed-Bed and Hi-Silica cartridges - Designed to be used in front of a Mixed-Bed or Silica Buster DI cartridge - Removes most ionized impurities - Removes ammonia that is left by water sources that contain chloramines.
I use any old magazine as my funnel rather than an actual funnel when pouring the di resin into the di container... those little di resin balls can make a mess if u spill them😅. I like the idea with the brush tho👍
Just an FYI, check your local Walmart for a "Canning Funnel." They are specifically made for filling canning jars for jams and jellies. They fit these refillable canisters perfectly with about a 2" diameter hole.

Would you suggest running a single 20" canister of di or dual 10''?
I replaced measuring cup with beer bottle works absolutely perfect with the BRS Rodi system.
haha love that
I thought I was the only one! I always got those laying around. It's a tight fit but works perfect.
For packing the resin, I used a Thayers Facial Toner bottle 8.5 oz with the red cap.
Have you already done a video on when to know if I should change my ro membrane.

Good Job, the person that complained (about you moving your hands) let the man be himself. Keep up the information videos.

@BRS, a canning funnel (PERFECT). Flawless Victory
Do you sell replacement foam for the cartridges? Mine are funky lol
I use a Mason jar canning funnel to fill my di resin. Works awesome.

Yep, canning funnel

After changing them do i run it gor awhile

Nice vid, when we going to get an update on the 52 week feeding tank?

If your goal is to shut the RO system completely "off" then a ball valve before the system is what I'd recommend.
What is the shelf life of the color changing resin (inside vacuum sealed bags)??

Dumb question, but I suppose DI Resin is safe to touch with bare hands. I had spilled some of the resin on the counter, is it toxic?

I think for me it was the excessive lighting 10hrs or more for 2 days caused that. I forgot to turn off my lights
Simple but very useful video many thanks.
A canning funnel works great for this process
my di resin has turned brown but my tds is still 0. Should I change the resin? I'm a student , so I don't have a lot of budget.
If you are feeling adventurous you could always try recharging it... (David Sanders, _How to Recharge DI resin_)
I would run a phosphate test on the water... if that is zero and your tds is zero, I'd consider that clean water
A canning funnel looks like it would work great for this purpose.
How many gallons of water do you think you get out of these canisters

very thorough video!
Is it possible to pack it too tight?
We've not seen that be an issue 🙂
His was great info indeed saving this to my favourites playlist 🤗🤗
What's the sponge for??
DI resin will shrink ever so slightly as it is exhausted, so the sponge helps keep the DI resin in place

Didn't you guys already post a video on this like a million years ago? Oh well, watching it anyway!
Haha, yeah, production values have definitely gone up in recent years. Definitely don't miss the old monotone straight faced videos.

Excellent information
Very good job!
Anyone with more plumbing knowledge know if it’s ok if a few of the beads go down the sink? I try to be careful but inevitably a few do.
According to the MSDS, there is no issue with a few beads going down the drain.
hey randy that was more than 3 easy step 😁. kidding aside great video tho, thx keep 'em coming! so whats the next product? hehe
Yes
excellent!, welcome!

You forgot the final step:
Spend about 4 hours cleaning up the DI beads from your workbench.
😂
DI will not remove chloramine, only the ammonia biproduct from the carbon breaking it down.
can you show us how to breathe as well?
Anyone find 3:06 oddly satisfying?
no.
Brett Abbott lol
Neat!
I got so sick of doing this I just pay a little more to get a pre-packed cartridge.
I already miss Ryan :(
I didn't say he was bad, I Just LOVE RYAN!!!
SO hard.
who else came here from The King of DIY?
A canning funnel is what you're looking for... designed for putting food in jars. You should sell them. We'll talk about my commission check later. ;)
