I've seen all the films on this list. And while they all shocked me, The Mist was the most shocking to me because, years before the film was made, I had read the short story. After leaving the store, their fate was ambiguous. They weren't shot and killed before the military showed up to save the day. They instead just continued to drive on. We never learn if they survive or not, though we do learn that David's wife died, having been killed and stuffed with spider-esque eggs. But we never learn if the mist is all over the world, or if they reach a safe haven before running out of gas. The story literally just ends with them driving off through the mist. So, to watch the film and see David kill them all, including his son, before the military showed up was not only a drastic change from the strory, but also unbelievably shocking and depressing.
My daughter, who was rather young at the time, literally blurted out"I bet he feels stupid" Having read the original story, which didn't end this way at all, it was quite the shock.
If you listen closely to the main theme (You're Just What I've Been Looking For a.k.a. Angela's Theme), it subtly reveals that Angela is not who she seems. Listening to the song first time (not viewing the film) it seems like someone who is just hurt (ex-boyfriend etc.) Listening to it again, and the lines about "the pain you have to hide" take on a whole new meaning.
The real twist in _Get Out_ occurs when the protagonist ventures into his girlfriend's closet and discovers her scrapbook. Jordan Peele's direction of the scene is an evident homage to Hitchcock.
Nah I think everybody saw that coming that to me wasn’t a good twist but finding out a bunch of white people were taking over black peoples body’s now that’s a twist
@@homeaccount5943Care to explain why? I mean I understand that some of of the stuff in his movies doesn’t really make sense. Like how does billions of people live in those hallways? Yeah, Cabin in the Woods is just really stupid, especially the ending. The *only* good thing, was the whole monsters in cages making them look like SCPs
@@ldiod4374 Except that it explained why Angela was unhinged. Imagine if your sister died in a horrific accident and your aunt forced you to live as her, just because she "always wanted a little girl," and she "already has a son?"
What? So "Black Christmas" did it first! And here I thought "When a Stranger Calls" was so original with its "The call is coming from inside the house" bit!
The plot twist in Invisible Man isn't just the fact that it was revealed to be Adrian's brother the night she overpowered the suit. It is just one of several smaller twists but it's definitely not the grand twist. It is heavily implied that it was still Adrian terrorizing her up until he set his brother up to be killed thus painting himself as a helpless victim being held captive in his brothers basement. But come on guys. He literally TALKED to her multiple times. Do you actually believe she wouldn't be able distinguish her abusers voice after living in fear of it for years? That shit was engraved in her mind. I believe the twist(s) are supposed to be that Adrian had succeeded (or so he thought) in the grandest gesture of gaslighting he'd ever subjected her to. But it didn't work, because she was all too familiar with the pattern. Oh and how she wasn't attempting to get his confession on tape when she came over for dinner, she just needed to get close enough to him to kill him herself while in his suit to end the cycle and making him ACTUALLY commit "suicide"
That ending was probably the best part about the film mostly how she figured out Adrian being the cunning manipulative scumbag that he was even if arrested would along with a corrupt lawyer figure out a way to get off scot free and continue to make her life a living nightmare so she decided to use the third cloaking suit and assassinate him making it look like a suicide that way she would truly be free from his reign of terror.
@@GiDD504 uh... What? Even if Adrian did install voice modifiers, and she is meant to believe that it was the brother in the suit the whole time while Adrian was chained up in his basement, why would he talk to her in Adrian's voice? Doesn't really follow the theme of the entire movie which is gaslighting imo.
it was most likely Adrian, if your remember the ending, he said "surprise" as a nod back to the text she got from the invisible man, that's when she learns the truth and sneaks away to put on the suit to kill him, I think he used his brother as a pawn.
when Samara started coming out of the TV in The Ring I remember literally standing up and yelling "HOLY SHIT!" (thankfully I was at home alone on the couch.)
The problem I have with the invisible man is when the girl gets slapped wouldn't she know it wasnt the lady try getting hit with a glove of cameras and tell me that feels like a human hand
I remember before The Ring came out, some friends and I were at San Diego ComiCon. There was a large barrel filled with unlabeled VHS tapes and a sign that said, " Free! Take One! " I stuck one in my backpack and we didn't remember about it until a couple of weeks later. We popped it in and the most disturbing images began to play. We were horrified and shocked. One of my friends started to cry and kept saying, " Why would someone do this?! What does it mean?!" Months later, when the trailer came out, we then understood. It was a great marketing plan!
It's actually a modernized version of Henry James "The Turn of the Screw" published in 1898. Shyamalan's plot is a mirror reflection of the original plot of the book, and it has been subject of several movies big or small over the years.
Identity and Cabin in the woods are my favorite Horror/Thriller movie of all time. The first time I saw cabin in the woods I was with my sisters and my first time watching Identity I just fell in love withe the whole concept!
I feel like “get out “ is getting all the hype when it’s basically copying the premise. Just changing the villains from black people to white people. Not really original.
Orphan is a seriously good horror film. The writing, story, twists, deaths are solid and the acting is top class even from the kids. Infact Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther is possibly the best performace i've ever seen from a child actor and worthy of an Oscar.
I know it's only a movie. However, when I think about how much dedication, skill, and determination it would have taken him to lay completely still for hours (days maybe??) on end, with no one suspecting the corpse isn't a corpse at all? Wow. Plus the fact that he wouldn't be able to react like a normal human to any screaming (i.e. flinching, being startled, etc.) dismemberment, or that if they moved to touch the "corpse" he'd have to really really play dead. Still blows my mind.
Leo B fair enough man you’re entitled to your opinion I’m not trying to argue with you. I agree it’s not up there for best horror film ever like some people seem to think but I still thought it was a really well made film and was really effective in making me feel uncomfortable
Atleast Esther (from Orphan), wasn't a ghost. She was actually a middle aged woman who suffered from a medical condition that stopped her from growing physically. And also a serial killer.

1. A real life Orphan movie played out for an unsuspecting couple in the states. 2. Is there any better casting out there when Matthew Liard was cast as Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movies? 3. April Fools Day was the best plot twist out there because not only did no one expect it, but no one was actually killed. Then they all partied at the end. Loved it. 4. The Others had to be one of those more clever movies when it comes to plot twists. I NEVER expected the mom and the kids to be the ghosts. Great writing! 5. Get out was super original. Loved that one too. Especially how he used the cotton in the chair that he was strapped to, to put in his ears so he wouldn't hear the woman tap the side of the tea cup to hypnotize him. Then he escaped.
I LOVE the sixth sense. It's such a sweet movie! Everyone was like "it's going to freak you out" so i was genuinely and pleasantly surprised when I had to get a box of tissues because it was such a beautiful story.

Orphan is even underrated in this list. It’s at number 20 and it easy deserves number 1. One of the best movies ever!!! From story to acting to every single thing. It’s that good!!! My recommendation!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You need to watch Carnival of Souls. It’s actually a great film. One of those great gothic movies that you watch on Halloween with all the other old movies that actually focus on plot and not jump scares. I love watching those types of films. Watch TCM. They show great classics.
Also love the Mist for who from The Walking Dead cast are in it. And Frances Sternhagen as Mrs. Reppler. I'd like to grow up to be as much of a kick-ass as she is.
God the Mist is still one of the most gut wrenching endings to me so far. The sheer pain of deciding to painlessly end your loved ones to prevent them from suffering a far worse, and painful fate, only for the military to show up seconds later would be devastating. Especially how young the kid, and the lady was, they still had so much time to live through. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he’d ended up taking his own life from the overwhelming grief. Sixth Sense ending was also kinda depressing, being took away from the love of your life would suck. Then seeing them walk around, but not being able to talk to them, or comfort them either. Honestly still think the name itself of The Cabin in the Woods is a ruse, plot twist in itself. You’d think it’d be a slasher with a title like that, not some chaotic, nightmare, horror fest lol. God I’m so glad Friday the 13th is on this list. Definitely wouldn’t expect on older lady going on a bloodlust rampage lol. Surprised Jason’s jump scare and him being (somewhat) still alive isn’t on it either. Plot armor/movie troupe of no one fighting back drives me nuts though. And the fact she knows how to use all these various equipment is weird too. Whole damn saw franchise is filled with plot twists if you ask me.😂 So much so it’s hard to keep up with at this point. Scream’s twist was definitely surprising to me. Kinda makes sense now that I think about it. The fact how one man was able to get around so damn quickly is weird.

I wouldn't say that the plot twist in Final Destination 5 was one of the 20 best horror twists of all time, but i gotta admit that it was surprising
As much flak as watchmojo gets, they’re content is perfect when you just want to chill and listen to something. They’re no beating them in that department
I love mrs voorhees. She seemed really sweet and caring mother who lost her child. Not to mention, i love that sweater... she had GREATE fashion senses
I remember seeing the 1st Saw in theaters and when the "dead" guy got up from that floor, said "Game Over" then shut the door, the whole theater fell silent. We were all just internally screaming WTF 😅
And I am surprised Sinister isn't on here. Definitely had a good plot twist I didn't see coming. A very good horror movie to watch also.
The cabin in the woods is really underrated.
Yeah even the others
Yeah, Cabin in the Woods is just really stupid, especially the ending.
The *only* good thing, was the whole monsters in cages making them look like SCPs
Yes
the ending of the movie ruined it for me
Cabin in the woods had no plt twist... the eldar got explained in the BEGINNING
The fact that the twist from Sleepaway Camp about Angela isn't even an honorable mention proves how criminally underrated that movie is
Man they did a disservice to sleepaway camp where Angela is actually a boy.
YES!! I was coming in with hope that it would at least be mentioned here.
Dudeeee sammmeee
Same as well
It doesn’t really affect the story though.
@@ldiod4374 Except that it explained why Angela was unhinged. Imagine if your sister died in a horrific accident and your aunt forced you to live as her, just because she "always wanted a little girl," and she "already has a son?"
I'm just gonna say if you said "April fools" to me after all that. I would end up being the murder.
Cool profile pic
Hah! Hah! I would be mighty ticked off and go on a rant!😂😂😂😂
You believe that a guy that invented an invisible suit doesn’t have the ability to change his voice? Really?
@@GiDD504 uh... What? Even if Adrian did install voice modifiers, and she is meant to believe that it was the brother in the suit the whole time while Adrian was chained up in his basement, why would he talk to her in Adrian's voice? Doesn't really follow the theme of the entire movie which is gaslighting imo.
it was most likely Adrian, if your remember the ending, he said "surprise" as a nod back to the text she got from the invisible man, that's when she learns the truth and sneaks away to put on the suit to kill him, I think he used his brother as a pawn.
@@mffanatic7318 that's what my comment says lol
when Samara started coming out of the TV in The Ring I remember literally standing up and yelling "HOLY SHIT!" (thankfully I was at home alone on the couch.)
Wow that moment was pretty mind blowing! Great shock moment.
Lol she’s my favorite horror villian ever!
Hey what happened to Sleepaway Camp? Angela being a boy the whole time was an incredibly huge classic horror twist!
Pretty politically incorrect now though.
The political correctness point and it’s been mentioned a lot in recent years. It is a shocker though.
The image of him standing there naked and hairy is forever burned into my mind and I wish I could wash it away. 🤢
Him sitting there growling like a pit bull at the end of the movie was one of the creepiest things I have ever seen.
Can't that's political incorrect
I just realized boyle and peralta’s dad’s both played in “get out”
The ending of The Mist still screws with my head.
I'm a simple person
I see Orphan, I click
My favorite horror movie with a twist is Sleepaway Camp. That final shot is iconic.
I can't believe that one didn't make the list.
Thank you! Someone did say it!
In Invisible Man, the way the girl gets pushed back shows that there were 2 invisible people there!
so Adrian was also there!
Take One! "
I stuck one in my backpack and we didn't remember about it until a couple of weeks later. We popped it in and the most disturbing images began to play. We were horrified and shocked. One of my friends started to cry and kept saying, " Why would someone do this?! What does it mean?!"
Months later, when the trailer came out, we then understood. It was a great marketing plan!
DANG! Lucky you! I was only11 back then still focused on grade school. I would’ve loved to have been apart of the Ring reign back then!
"The Perfection" had a pretty fkd up plot twist but still left me shocked.
"Orphan" was beautiful horror movies
"High tension"
"The skeleton key"
The Sixth Sense
Orphan
High Tension
*"The Skeleton Key"* is well underrated. *"April Fools' Day"* had that idea locked years before David Fincher's *"The Game."*
Great movies!!
There wouldn't have been Wes Craven's "Scream" without "April Fools' Day.
LOVED SKELETON KEY. !!
Genuinely surprised Sleepaway Camp wasn’t on here
Ikr? Talk about a plot twist to end all plot twists.
But how does her being a guy change the story
@@FateZeroth The flashback helps to explain why Angela/Peter was so unhinged.
@3days It changes everyone's view of the story. The ending was just so jarring you wouldn't even expect it.
Thanks for the answers !
The Descent is so underrated. That ending shook me.
the orphan will always be one of the best horror movies to me like its genuinely so good and the plot is amazing
"The Others" takes place after WWI, not WWII.
Plus, it came out 2 years after the Sixth sense. The whole “they’re dead all along” plot twist was hardly a surprise.
It's actually a modernized version of Henry James "The Turn of the Screw" published in 1898. Shyamalan's plot is a mirror reflection of the original plot of the book, and it has been subject of several movies big or small over the years.
If you look it up on IMDb, it says that the story takes place after World War II.
Jacob's Ladder, when Tim Robbins character found out he actually died from a gunshot on his first tour of Name. And never made it home.
It’s a great movie! He was battling a lot of demons but I think it had a happy ending. Finally at peace
Still a great twist, though
It wasn't a gunshot wound, he was bayoneted in the guts. That's what killed him.
Identity and Cabin in the woods are my favorite Horror/Thriller movie of all time. The first time I saw cabin in the woods I was with my sisters and my first time watching Identity I just fell in love withe the whole concept!
Psycho's ending even marked Anthony Perkins's career so deeply that he had a hard time finding other roles.
The Skeleton Key should be waaay up in the list
That was a great twist. Creepy when you realise how long these spirits have been jumping bodies for at least a century.
I feel like “get out “ is getting all the hype when it’s basically copying the premise. Just changing the villains from black people to white people. Not really original.
@@gondaleo That's what I thought. The Skeleton Key came up with the ideia first
I am disturbed by the amount of times Peter Sarsgaard was on here
One of the best actors of our time.
Orphan is a seriously good horror film.
The writing, story, twists, deaths are solid and the acting is top class even from the kids.
Infact Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther is possibly the best performace i've ever seen from a child actor and worthy of an Oscar.
jigsaw lying the whole time in the movie pretending as a corpse is one high level of sickness!!!
The first Saw movie end twist is still one of my favs lol.
Get Out was a fantastic film and literally have me the creeps
so unnerving throughout
@@ferguscrockett2735 so overrated and unorginal throughout
Leo B fair enough man you’re entitled to your opinion I’m not trying to argue with you. I agree it’s not up there for best horror film ever like some people seem to think but I still thought it was a really well made film and was really effective in making me feel uncomfortable
Fergus Crockett it’s ok man always remember critics and assholes are the same so it’s a waste of time to argue.
So, most of the plot twists are: The main character is a ghost all along.
kinda Scooby Doo, huh?
Atleast Esther (from Orphan), wasn't a ghost. She was actually a middle aged woman who suffered from a medical condition that stopped her from growing physically. And also a serial killer.
The others
@@erikasantillan941 This almost the same, but instead 'The main character is a ghost all along" it's The main character is a middle-aged woman all along.
The biggest twist is that the horse's name was Friday
Can't disagree with #1. However, in terms of individual scenes, the plot twist reveal scene in Saw has to be the most epic.
Especially with that music behind it... amazing. For both Psycho and Saw, lol.
I was waiting for the others! Nice you have it
Nothing will ever make my gut wrench more than the ending of the Mist
The Others is such an underrated movie, I feel that nobody mentions it when talking about horror movies. Watched it with my school when I was 13 and nobody could believed what happened with the servant
Me jaw dropped when Oi saw that twist. It was very good movie
We instantly looked at each other at the end & said "We gotta watch that again!"
I love "The Others". The story line, the acting, the costumes. Nicole Kidman was so believable. Very underrated movie.
@@rebeccaaustin3065 Nicole Kidman will always be one of my favorite Hollywood actress since Practical Magic.
The begger women is Lucy barker
Sweeney Todd: the Demon barber of fleet street
That is al I will say
All
epic rainbows That is my favourite movie of all time, but I never understood that ‘twist.’ The beggar woman had Lucy’s face.
ooooooohhhhhh i forgot about that movie/musical when the homeless women was sweeney/benjamins wife and was mentally sick from the poison i would have also killed the lady, i forgot here name tho.
it was extremely predictable, i knew it was her the second they mentioned her
OH YEA!!! I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THATTT
Orphan had the best plot twist & underrated actors who did an extremely amazing job playing the characters precisely but the movie was also underrated. I also think Psycho had a good plot twist as well.. 🔪🩸
The mist has not only a great shocking end, also a great T.J. performance. His desperation is stunning.
You missed Angela Baker was a boy from Sleepaway Camp
Suprised Ricky never found out
So right
I’m so surprised that it wasn’t on this list
Tim Dischert I’m still shocked to this day of that twist
To me the number one was where Bruce Willis was a ghost the entire time
Us had a great twist, but Get Out is the better movie
hey guys hope your having a good day, to check more facts like this, fell free to visit my channel, it will really help me.thanks
I kind of predicted the twist in Us from the start of the film. Get out was a much more unexpected twist for me
Totally agree. . Get out was much better
FACT FILE so far I checked you page and pretty cool stuff I subbed.
Facts
Orphan is an all the shocker ✨💖 Still loving it until now
I LOVE the sixth sense. It's such a sweet movie! Everyone was like "it's going to freak you out" so i was genuinely and pleasantly surprised when I had to get a box of tissues because it was such a beautiful story.
Was so glad identity was on here. I absolutely love that plot twist
One of my favorites
Identity is one of my favorite movies!! What an awesome twist!!!
Agreed!! And John Cusack is an absolute gem
Yea it made a good twist on a classic story.
Lena is basically a live action Baby Doll. You know, from Batman: The Animated Series.
Agree.
I agree as well.
Baby doll was a cool villian. Why she never stuck, idk
Agreed.
The kids' grandparents in The Visit is a great twist. The Others and the Sixth Sense too.
The angel heart one is perfect for me.
I read the book before watching the movie and it was so brolliantly built up that i didnt even think of the possibility and its so twisted and sad i love it
How on earth does Jacob's ladder not make this list?? One of the best reveals ever
True
When counting down the picks for your list, maybe just mention the movie and then expound on what the twist is after? I know that you mention a spoiler alert beforehand but we don't actually know which movies are part of the list without watching your video. If we find out that a movie we haven't watched is on the list and see the twist right away, rip gg.
Came here to say the same. Im at #19 and probaby wont finish the video cause im worried i might see something i dont want to see just yet
I agree i was gonna watch number 19 soon but now i know the twist
Except if we want to see the film then how are we supposed to know?
I agree! I'm bummed that they spoiled Invisible Man for me. I wish I would've gotten chance to skip that part before they expanded on it :(
@@magnusm4 What do you mean? They would still be able to talk about the twist, we'll just get a heads up before they spoil anything we might want to watch in the future
The price of these movies is shocking enough.
Jacob's Ladder deserves AT LEAST an honorable mention here. That's gotta be one of the most criminally underrated horror films of all time.
7:05, US' twist was insane. LOVED that movie, Jordan Peele is a directing genius
Orphan is highly underrated
Orphan is even underrated in this list. It’s at number 20 and it easy deserves number 1. One of the best movies ever!!! From story to acting to every single thing. It’s that good!!! My recommendation!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
i flipped out when I found out the twist lol
When the ladies drove off into that river their faces had me dying one of them even blinked 🤣🤣🤣 19:15
You need to watch Carnival of Souls. It’s actually a great film. One of those great gothic movies that you watch on Halloween with all the other old movies that actually focus on plot and not jump scares. I love watching those types of films. Watch TCM. They show great classics.
I never get tired of The Skeleton Key. Us and Get Out are also two of my favorites. Angel Heart and The Sixth Sense are two of my old picks.
WAIT what about Dead Silence mary shaw was that one dudes mom and she played the dad like a puppet. That was pretty deep.🐞🐾
Orphan's in the thumbnail, I'm liking this already. And I've never heard of some of these, so this is really neat.
The Mist - Army rolls seconds later of..
I was just about to say this. The ending was shocking as hell.
Also love the Mist for who from The Walking Dead cast are in it. And Frances Sternhagen as Mrs. Reppler. I'd like to grow up to be as much of a kick-ass as she is.
My favorite plotwist is "Orphan" and "The Visit" "Us"
Orphan is easily one of my favourite movies of all time, so hyped for Orphan2
