  • This video shows me assembling the Incra RT Combo-4 router table/stand/wheel kit, and includes how to add a switch for turning your router on and off. Note: Information in the video on electricity and wiring a switch pertains specifically to the USA and perhaps to other areas that use the same electrical system (120 volts, 60 Hz).

Thanks for posting. Bought a similar package from Incra; your video was very helpful. Looks like it's been almost two years since you originally posted. Still have the same router table? How has the whole system held up? Still happy with it? Cheers.

Hi Devin. Yes, still have it and still love it. it's been a very reliable setup. Did you see my video on the micro-adjuster I made for it? (ua-cam.com/video/pGLWn6EG-Fk/v-deo.html)

Yes, I still have it and I'm extremely pleased with the entire setup--not problems to date (April 2020).

Please delete the electrical installation portion of this video. Your presentation is unsafe and incorrect on so many levels. Your switch is not motor rated, and a ground connection IS required. Your metal framed router table remains ungrounded, and unprotected from short circuit from the extension cord you have permanently attached. I realize you are not wiring a new house, and DIY’ers are always improvising, but the guidance you are providing is harmful to others. The issues I have addressed, not to mention others I have not highlighted, are not my opinions. They are requirements of the National Electrical Code. It provides guidelines for all electrical equipment and installations to protect the safety of others.

You make good points. The switch should be motor rated so the contacts can handle the start-up load of a motor. Anyone following my instructions should use the type of switch (usually a push-button type) normally sold for shop equipment, and ground everything properly. Thanks.

That switch is designed for lights, not power tools. It is a safety hazard for things like tablesaws and router tables because it is very easy to accidentally turn on by just bumping it. Don't be a cheapskate and buy a switch designed for power tools. They don't cost much and fingers don't grow back.

That switch is designed to open an electrical circuit and works for anything within it's amp rating. Of course, probably 99.99% of it's use is for lighting circuits. Safety is always a concern--my router is never plugged in while stored and I'm the only person ever in my shop. I took all this into consideration and don't feel I need a proper power tool safety switch. We each have to make our own choices concerning safety and what we feel comfortable with. My router has never accidentally turned on and I have all my fingers. Thanks for your comment.
