Wide Open Bluefin Tuna Fishing (What Dreams are Made of)

- Got the special opportunity to go chase some bluefin tuna in Bodega Bay, CA with my friends @DDFishingCo It was a beautiful morning in the Pacific Ocean. We had no idea when we were heading out what kind of day would be in store for us 30 miles from land. Once we started getting close to the waters we wanted to fish we saw massive amounts of birds diving in the distance with boils of tuna below. The hearts started pounding and it didnt take long for what might possibly be the best Norcal bluefin tuna fishing day ever on a private boat.

So impressive to bring them in that fast! Dream fishing day
Yeah those guys pound it for sure! Yeah rare opportunity you get it that good. Thanks for watching
It was awesome fishing with you Chris. We can smell a Bluefin on your boat soon !
Trip I will remember forever, that's both my trips with you guys now. Amazing fisherman you both are, super nice guys, and good company. Thanks so much for inviting me on the tuna slayer! We are going to have to bloody up my boat one of these days!
Saw this before but had to watch again,a great video! 🎣😎
Well done guys. Hate to change things up but in the SD area we put the madmacs back 150-200 yds and troll 15-20mph. A lot less reeling and with team work landed 165-200lbrs in 10-15 min.
Let me say this. Tuna fishing is not meant for the weak and out of shape angler. You will tire out long before the fish will. I don't say this out of malice, more from personal experience.
Wow, what a great memory you made! I’d pay a grand to be on that boat for a day chasing Bluefin!! Good luck guys, fair seas, tight lines!
I hear ya, unfortunately you never know what your going to get when you go out. Hit the lottery on that day! Thanks for watching
@@ChrisPfish2 no doubt. The only time I’ve chased tuna was an overnight charter out of Newport Beach; 68 mi out, loaded with albacore!! Just once, I’d like to be on a boat catching bigger tuna. Thanks!
That’s an awesome day, they were really biting for you guys. As a suggestion you might want to consider investing in a tuna spike, it’s safer than a knife and longer as well so it’s probably more effective. Taking those trebles out of a big bluefin while the fish is alive is a risky proposition lol. Great vid!
Thanks for watching and the suggestion!
I like the way the guys handle the fish great way to bleed them
3 men to pull in an average size bluefin. Come to New Zealand our women will show you how to pull them in
Haha, and it took 3 of them to wind it in
Hahaha it is San fransisco if you know what I mean😂
Cool story. New Zealand still sucks
I subscribed for “more videos like this one”, expecting 5 bluefin in the next vid
oh boy, let me get on it lol.
Congratulations Chris great team to be fishing with good job on your fish that is what the dreams are made of congratulations again
👍🔥🎣💯
Catch you next time!
Thanks bro! Yeah trip of a lifetime for sure. its like going out and hitting the fishing lottery. Thanks for watching
Congrats, Chris. Sure was a dream day. I was out on my boat as well that day but we only caught one. About the same size. Way to go, really happy for you. We both caught our first BFT on the same day, probably only a few miles apart from each other… crazy… cannot wait for the next opening to go out again!
congrats! yeah what a day it was.
Epic doesn't even begin to describe. Fish , dreams are made of. 👍🐟🥀
yeah special day for sure!
Are you guys in noaa Regs? Recreational size limits 2 per day per boat 28”-43” 43”-73” 1 per day per boat 73” over commercial allocated within monthly quota or am I reading noaa regs wrong for bluefin tuna?
IVE NEVER CAUGHT A BLUE FIN BUT I HAVE CAUGHT A BIG EYE IT WAS ABOUT 85 86 LBS BOY WAS IT EVER FUN AND TIREING
Awesome Chris! Good job on the catch. I’m up next, I sure hope my day with the D&D crew will be as good as yours! 🤞🙌🏻
You lucky sob. I'm screaming gaffet gaffet gaffet . I wanted to grab a gaff. I would not want to loose one. Thanks for taking us there with you🤠J>-W-> That's my kind of fun My Adrenaline was pumping
Great day..great video..great fish..Where the heck were you fishing, with only an hour or so run back into Bodega?..on another note, I can do without the intro music
Almost stopped watching because of the music
Bleed the fish and Gill, gut, and I rod the entire spinal column with a stiff 400+ lb leader to kill all the nerves. Fish will start shaking and going off as you do it. Check out how the Japanese fisherman take care of thier tuna when they catch it!! I live in Hawaii and was commercial fishing for 30+ years . Fished all the islands and the northwest Hawaiian islands all the way up to midway! I lived on the big island and started full time commercial fishing on my custom built Force 30 from the mid 70's on. The Japanese marine biologists came over from Japan and I used to take them on my regular 4-5 day and night fishing trips to the most remote areas around the island , and because we catch so much big ahi, they wanted to teach us how to properly take care of our big ahi"s. The Japanese are the best and most knowledgeable fisherman, especially for big ahi and how to take care of them and try to prevent "burn", since the migrating schools of big ahi, primarily yellowfin ,come through the Hawaiian islands every spring/ summer, to spawn. They get really active when spawning, and they heat up, especially when you hook one and it fights so hard, releasing lactic acid i to the flesh, so we have problems with burnt ahi, if you don't take proper care of them. Of course we want the best quality for sashim and sushi!!! I catch a lot of big eye tuna also, and they are preferred to yellowfin, and bluefin tuna is the very best but we don't have them in Hawaii. Looked like you guys found a nice big area with bluefin feeding on the surface and having the porpoise around too is always a good thing as they work with the tuna to find and feed on the bait piles. Looked like fun for you guys!
Aloha from beautiful Hawaii
D.L.
Those were some fine big tunies. It looked like you had the body bad pretty full. Stuff happens, gear breaks, and equipment and technique can fail, but overall that was a great trip. 😊
I like everything about your videos except your music choices.
good thing this one only has one song. Thanks for watching
That's robbing someone music, not fishing music
Rock died 20 years ago when Stevie Ray and the Delta blues festival moved out of Freedom Village.
Horrible song you cool though cris
Yeah, the music sucks 👎👎👎
Whales, dolphin, blue fin, and seals @14:30-15:00 - unbelievable video!
We have an abundance of Tuna at this time in history because our ecosystem is very robust, and boosted, from plant life up through the entire food chain by the higher levels of CO2 in our atmosphere. Simple.
That's some big boy fishing right there. How do they taste compared to Albacore?
BFT is way better and I like albacore a lot. Its just crazy good. Thanks for watching
Really cool all that marine life showing in background 👏
OMG You are so lucky you didn't get a hook in your hand. You will some day if you don't hit them with a Bat or Brain stick them before taking hooked out..
I like the music
What an awesome trip! I'm definitely jealous. Thats soo much tuna. What do you guys do with it all? I love me some sashimi but can't imagine you can eat that much tuna?
I have a freezer in my garage. So lots went in there. Same day I put pieces in air tight freezer bags. I ate a lot for the first 5 days while it was fresh as well. Gave friends and family some. But yeah majority of it will get eaten over the next year. For thanksgiving I will be bringing a big bowl of poke lol. Thanks for watching
Nice going guys, great days fishing. Not trying to put a downer on your day,1 fish each is plenty maybe?
Where are you fishing OUTTA ?? How do I reach these guys with Boat ⛵ ⛵⛵
5 or 6 feet? Inches maybe. You guys should throw poppers and plugs when they’re next to the boat.
I can't believe how fast you troll. Coming from salmon fishing
I don't like you on a gaff Chris....... But signs are promising, they say ...aim for the eye and hit him in the head
Clicker good to notidy you of hookup but loud n unnecessary when reeling in n aggravating noise ha!😂
Killer video and trip. Again thank you for your videos god bless you a safe journey❤🎉
Thanks for watching, happy you enjoy the videos!
Chris next time wear knee pads! We wont make fun of you! 😂
lol
you could feed a small country. Great video. Thanks
Absolutely fantastic! It’s just so amazing to watch all of you do an amazing job catching those tunas. Great job Chris!👏
Thanks for watching. Yeah crazy good day of fishing. still cant believe it.
@@ChrisPfish2 You’re welcome. It’s always fun to watch your videos.
Watching from Australia. Love those nomad lures your running. We also run them but troll alot slower than you guys around 6-7knots and only lures 50- 200ft back max catching fish from 20lb-350lb
wow thats great. It is strange running them so far back but it seems to work. everyone always catches on the back one when you see or ask. On my boat after this video was filmed I hooked 7 fish. All seven came on the farther back line. Thanks for watching!!
what an amazing day. congratulations to you all for being there.
Pls send me one of your fishing gear,I like it I am your fan here in the Philippines, thank you
Good job guys you killing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That’s amazing what you guys just said years ago like 2030 years ago I think my friends and I went on a charter boat back then it was $200 a person. It was a big boat like 100 footer and we take off at three or four in the morning, eight hours to get there eight hours back we only able to fish like six hours or five hours we had to sleep in a little bunkbeds. It looks me something that the Navy would have and we had to go out there and you couldn’t sleep with the diesel motor, making the noise, but we went out there and we cut tuna but some of themwere that big but mine but they were smaller but still big cut up for us that was nice
Soon as that 3rd tuna was gaffed upside-down it didn't move in the water wonder if they all do that
Nice fish you won't get one of the Virginia north Carolina or northern bluefin tuna in that quick
FABULOUS day on the water Bud!!! Sure makes a bloody mess of the boat!!! 😄
yeah it does! Thanks for watching
This was a trip that dreams are made of WOW well done all around !
When I watch videos of folks catching tuna of any breeds these days I it always makes me wonder if those fish are just juveniles considering tuna can and do grow to enoumous sizes and the worrying thing is obviously if people are catching baby tuna then I wonder just how long it'll be before they go extinct because of the greed of some folks who only see the monies that can be earned.
What are your views on my message, if you have any that is ?
Pacific bluefin are smaller than atlantic. So if your seeing 600 pound bluefin and then think the 130 pounders we are catching are babies I think is wrong. Pacific get to 250-300 pounds. Atlantic get 1000lb+. In SD the party boats get lots of 30-40 pound bft. Those are the small ones in these waters. No money motivation in the fishing in this video. We are not commercial fisherman. Thanks for watching
Wow Chris that was nuts. Catch of a lifetime.
Dam good job guys where do you guy launch out of this world s crazy
Wow Chris, first it's a massive Big Eye trip and now it's multiple toad Bluefins. You will never be the same after this season, relish it. Just FYI, it's rather crazy to try to stick one of those bigger bluefins by yourself. Odds are very against you when the tuna are that size and you don't have two gaffs in the fish in about 1 second. That one you gaffed near the eye brown-backed completely out of the water. I don't think anybody could have held that one with a single gaff in it. I give you all two thumbs up for not losing one! Chris Insley
I appreciate that thanks. Yeah its pretty crazy gaffing those. Watching the reply, more so on the first one I need to be more aggressive and dig the hook deeper I think. Love gaining the experience. I do know one thing, the salmon runs will feel a lot shorter now. Thanks for watching
Buy a black magic, that's not fishing
Blue white yo ho jig chrome bottom 4 oz the deal is speed gotta rip it
The best illustration of taking care of the meat! Great job. Good to know they’re still eating the madmacs
Thanks for watching! Yeah amazing day on the water, yeah they were chomping them!
You guys kicked some ass!!! When you are gaffing you are holding the head to far out of the water a bit too much. Just hit the fish in the head guide the fish to the side of the boat and hold against the side of the boat with the head facing at an upward angle if the have burst of speed they can't go anywhere against the boat with their head up. Watch the gaff hook on the side of the boat, then for this size fish just like you guys are doing wait for the second gaff and pull the fish on the boat. Make sure you watch the lure as the fish comes on those hooks are dangerous on a thrashing tuna. When the fish comes on cover their eye, preferably with a wet towel, covering their eye stops them from thrashing on the boat.
great tips! Thanks for watching
permission to attend👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Seems like tie a stringer on the fish and let him bleed outside the boat?
thats a helluva day but you skinned your knee? really? haha
First bluefin and no hearts popped out?
This intro song is unbelievably horrible
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸👊🏻
Love the videos man keep going going
That’s an interesting way of bleeding a fish, I was taught cutting through the gills, you do that with all species or just the tuna?
i cut the gills on the fish I have caught. That was my first tuna trip. I think thats how they do it on charter boats in socal.
Wonderful video (congratulations! 😊) and wonderful fishing trip!!!😍
May I know which was the trolling speed?
... oh ... and may I know which lures di you use? 😊
(I would like to try the same technique here in Italy 😊)
Many many thanks 🙏🏾😊
With today's gear.....it hurts the wallet when you don't catch one and you only get two. I've had my fill, on Penn Internationals through the 80s El nino's and Ensenada Runs through Campos Camp. Not worth it $300/400+ a tuna if you catch one. I used to catch all I want at a third of that. GOOD LUCK guys. I hope you catch 6 it will make the ride home more palatable. Another thing find the Porpoises, find the Tuna....a lost art. Not just birds.
Ttemendous catch.
What is the brand and size of the lure you did catch twk or all of those tuna with ?
nomad mad macks 200. thanks for watching
cool video. i just subscribed and wondering, do u do catch and cook or smoke on your videos? i sure do like to see that!
Thanks for watching and subscribing. Yes I do have a some videos like that. Check out "Epic Day of Fishing Right Next to the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE"
Awesome footage. If you use a spinning setup with a small stick-bait, you will get tight when they are busting on the surface. I know the prevailing wisdom on the west coast is that the fish are picky/finicky, but the lack of hookups is due to the wrong gear/lures. After throwing a popper a few times, you should switch out to a sinking lure, such as a Protail. To imitate a small bait like an anchovy, a smaller profile is more likely to get you bit. Also, to ensure a fast switch out time with lures, I would tie a Palomar knot to a barrel swivel and then attach a split ring. Therefore, if you aren't getting bit on the popper, you can quickly switch out to a stick-bait. You guys are so lucky to be chasing BFT in the 100-250lb range. Enjoy it. Tight lines.
Peace, and Love ❤ Your video's your music choices. Keep making great video's. Thanks
Hey Chris little tip, boat needs a good bat 3 swings in the right spot ,shaking is over . Spiking is good but you don’t always have the space to spike. Grew up fishing Kauai always bat first thing no more shaking. Then do your bleeding.
Are you living in Paradise? 🙂
Don’t you guys have a blind tied to the real to the boat so if it slips out of your hands, you don’t lose your your whole set up. You could just pull it in you know like a 5 foot line or something to me. It seems like you guys would do that the boats do that
How fast are you trolling for those?
Holy balls there hauling but
I've seen guy in Hawaii channel. He lets fish cool some on Deck before putting it on ice. Saves on ice and doesn't shock fish meat making it tougher ?? Nice Fish..
Crazy boils! Exciting stuff! Great video, you guys killed it 👍🎣👏
All that marine life out there is cool, whales n dolphins n that big tuna surfaced right by boat, awesome! In the middle of another world! What a cool place we live in👏🎣 Great video👍🎣
We take 40 minutes that was on a penn squidders and 30 lb test 40-1.5 hrs get spooled get back this running 80-120 Fish Great job Twin 90 hp on a 24’ boat out to Catalina back in a day
Like the way you guys bleed n gut right away n get em iced👏 Looks like the best way to preserve what you worked for 👍Way I'm gonna do it when i get my shot n i got to learn in my recliner 😊 Thanks 👏🎣😎☮️
My favorite UA-camrs hooked up again!! I love the local support.
Brother Chris,do these guys book trips to the public?? Love to book! Hey if not these bros, any good boats you recommend?

Greetings from a hobby from Indonesia
Thanks for checking out the video!
Hi, at what speed are you? Trolling
11-15 mph. ideally 12-13. thanks for watching
Hey Chris I will be in bodega on june 7-9. Will you be fishing in dillion Beach in june?
I am not sure. Hopefully salmon is open those days and I am doing that.
@ChrisPfish2 hopefully it's open during that weekend for salmon. We are celebrating our birthday and he will be bringing his north river to catch geoduck, Dungeness crab, muscles, striper, halibut.
Good Fish. very good
AWESOME JOB BROTHER!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on those beautiful Bluefin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Gabe!
Blood in the sea😢
Dream day for sure awesome job Chris! You’ve got to let the gaff do the work for you tuna right when they are circling like that you just let the weight of the gaff come down on their head & bring it towards the boat much different from halibut
Hey Chris do you guys clip in your reels to the gunnels or just troll without
the reels were not clipped to anything. thanks for watching
THIS VIDEO IS SO LIFE LIKE I CAUGHT MYSELF JERKING THE ROD IN MY HANDS AND I DIDNT EVEN HAVE A ROD TO JERK ON .
