That happens when you have a heart/brain/soul that appreciates awesome music, performed awesomely. I had never heard/seen this piece before and had tears in my eyes within seconds. Pity it is so short.

I am not a cello player. What a boss lady.

Well, this "part" of the concerto sounds really metal because it's based on the same "structures" on which later on metal has been based, such as "pedal pointing" parts at a very high speed (on a minor scale sequence) (usually played with palm muting on electric guitar on lower strings and anyway generally using open strings to make it more fluent and "human" to play).

As a cellist, her control is amazing. This is extremely difficult for that speed and crossing to create that clear cut sound especially that high up the fingerboard. You can hear every note crisp and precise. Fantastic performer. My fingers would bleed

As a cellist, here's how can I understand how difficult this is :D -Intonation with doing chords is pain -Thumb position, we develope callouses on the side of our thumbs to play that high and causes pain -Staying in time with the orchestra and not just playing inside your own world is pain

Saw a H.S. Senior play like this on graduation. Absolutely amazing. He got a full house standing ovation and came back out for a curtain call and did a small ovation. That was years ago, and I've not forgotten.
Yeah, as a cellist, I will say the thumb was ON THE MOVE, and that itself need to be practiced when it comes to its placement or placements and not having it rest and not having it hit the strings when crossing and accidentally pluck one while whipping your hand across the string board, amazing talent, especially when having a solo, even if for only about two minutes, 🎉😮
As a violinist, I pray 🙏🏾 that she is able to continue playing at this level. God healed me of painful carpal tunnel by not playing for some months in my middle school years. Playing my violin was my mental health therapy from 5th grade through college.
I worked as a tourmanager for an orchestra and went on tour with her and besides being an amazing cellist Sol Gabetta is also a very nice person! A win-win for the classical music-world ❤️
I am also a cellist but the right hand is not what impresses here, the amazing thing is the left hand. The precision in every sound the perfect transition between all the high positions is what she does just perfect

The cello sheet music for this piece actually almost looks like piano music because it has a grand staff (both treble and bass clefs), instead of changing clefs, because it jumps around so much between high and low notes.
Sorry pianists, but no ya don't xD because intonation is not a thing on piano. Us string players strive for perfect intonation constantly (it's impossible). This lady is killing it! She is playing chords out her ass and if one finger is even a millimeter off on ANYTHING she's flubbed it.
I'm a guitarist, but I definitely understand. I have nothing but the utmost respect for these musicians. It takes an insane amount of time and dedication to master an instrument like that.
