Get the foil pans that fit in the grease trap. Also I’ve cook on mine for 6 months and have never had grease on my deck, don’t know how you did that and as far as you’re cloths get an apron. I’ll never go back to a grill again! Oh and put the grease foil pan in the freezer so it sets up then throw in trash right before trash pick up.
Jim's Wholiest of Coleus Oh and if your pushing the grease back to the drain too fast it will fly over the grease cup, push the grease back to the drain slowly and you should have no problems, hope this helps.
I've had gas grills for years and always found the clean up miserable. They don't just burn up the grease and it dissappears, the inside of grills get nasty and they can be a nightmare to clean at the end of season. I love the griddle for the exact opposite reason! I find it tons easier to clean and way more useful. I like burgers, dogs, and steak also but try frying your eggs or pancakes and a grill! Or caramelizeing peppers and onions! On the griddle I can do it all.
All great points. Its definitely more versatile.....But I personally don't like the greasy smell and splatter as opposed to the smell of chargrilling. Appreciate your watching the video and the comment.
You can cook so much more on it than a traditional grill...But it's a greasy way of cooking outdoors and when your done cooking....your clothes smell...even wearing an apron. Its the one negative that I cant help but bring up.
Jon Thornton ... I can’t lie when I take my wife out for dinner we say... we should have cooked.. that griddle gets the job done... with a wood pellet grill... possibilities are endless
Thanks. I've been on the fence on buying one of these. There's been something holding me back on buying one and the things you mentioned are things that make my decision easier. Seem like they're good but much more work and much more time.
Thank you....I get a fair share of negative comments about the "Negatives" ....that I complain too much....yaddda yaddda....but I was trying to give a PRACTICAL REALISTIC REVIEW bringing up observations such as grease splatter on decks, clothing and the general greasiness of this style of Outdoor Cooking as compared to the Traditional Grill which nearly Everyone has experienced.... but few have with one of these . Appreciate your supportive comment!!
Thanks for the review. I am at exactly your point. I am ready to replace grill and i am thinking maybe griddle. I also think 28 would be big enough for my wife and I. I only have a 16 inch grill now and it is just a little small. Would love to cook more outside and get the smell out of the house.
Nice video of your experience, thanks. To minimize oil I like to put a little down and spread it out with a paper towel, a thin coat is all you really need.
Good point. Some Griddlers are really heavy on the oil..... I only use a bit more on inherently dry non fatty foods such a chicken breasts.....but 80/20 burgers, bacon or Sausage have plenty in reserve!!! The Griddle makes AWESOME Everything compared to the Traditional grills.... There's a reason why Restaurants, Bar & Grills, Luncheonettes use Griddles!!!
Very Good!! Thank you. I get many comments and a fair amount of criticism that I " Complain" too much....which is because they don't take the time to really watch my video. Again the major difference between the Blackstone Griddle and a Traditional grill is the "greasy" nature of cooking with oil and having the food sit and cook in the oil and or it's own natural fat as opposed to it falling down the grill and burning off.
The great thing about the 28" Griddle is its compact , runs on standard propane so a side by side Griddle/ Weber grill patio makes for an awesome outdoor cooking area!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus there is grill attachment that you can add to this griddle. It replaces the steel and goes right on top if you want the oil to run down. I wouldn't want all that oil falling over the burners and making the unit gross and attracting animals but it is an option! I just ordered my griddle. I wonder how it would do with aluminum foil on top to keep the mess down.
There are ways to minimize the splatter but istill by nature of the griddle fatty foods like Bacon and Burgers Splatter. Those who state otherwise arent being truthful.....
Really appreciate the review. I was in-between getting another weber and this and didn't realize how much grease splatters off and how much is left over after every grill. The wife who cooks on it will not like that at all and I was planning on putting it on my deck which obviously won't work. Thank you!
Thank you. My wife and I saw a Nexgrill at Home Depot, and we're excited about it. We want to do stir fry, and it appears to be perfect. Thank you for the caution. We'll probably not have a lot of grease with Asian noodles, but it's good to know about.
After having it a year the " Grease " & Splatter issue is relative to what you are cooking..... Fatty Burgers, Bacon etc of course will be much worse than Stir frying Veggies or Chicken with minimal amounts of added oil. Appreciate the comment!!!
i have a hundred dollar gift certificate for home depot, just waiting for the next grill to go on sale. may end up with the blackstone before that ever happens. lol the only thing stopping me is i ca not eat the things i used too.
Was thinking about getting this size. Friend has a camp chef grridle. It's nice since you can change the top and turn it into gas grill. Burgers are legit off a griddle. Thanks for review.
I'm fairly new to the Griddle scene...but thanks to UA-cam reviews saw both the Camp Chef and Blackstone's in different sizes. This 28" is perfect for my family ( My wife & I and my teenager son.) My review may seem negative...but if you really look at it objectively It wasn't. It just clarified a part of the GRIDDLE that mostly all other reviews overlooked. The grease splatter....the grease smell....The grease disposal....the inherent greasiness of the food as opposed to a regular GAS GRILL. AFTER having the Blackstone 28" for a month now that still holds true but I think it's a far better way to cook. The Burgers taste better and Breakfast sandwiches come out awesomely!! I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT!!
Good to see an honest video on what a griddle is all about. I have not seen any other review giving the facts on a griddle. I BBQ with charwood and it really adds flavor I probably won't get on a griddle. The other point was that this is greasy cooking. I have not heard anyone else talk about that either. There is a place for both. Probably get a griddle in the future. They look like fun to cook on. Great video.
They are definitely a Much more Versatile Outdoor cooking medium....But If you're the type who loves the smell of the Traditional Charbroiling of the Grill...this is NOT for you. But It is inexpensive enough to buy both.
I just got one an love it so far I will not be cooking inside again I still got a grill but I cooked bacon patatos an eggs in under 20 minutes. from start up to clean up. buy one you will love it
Use avocado oil if you want a healthier oil. It withstands high heat as well. I'm an advanced cook and here's how I see it; a griddle and a grill are two completely different ways of cooking and will give completely different results. You will have more surface contact on a griddle, and you also have the capability of building a fond (like in a pan) and deglazing that with water or other liquid to develop more intense flavors. We have a Weber but I want a griddle too because my friend has one and I've cooked on it several times with fantastic results. (the fajitas were amazing...) It's like cooking in a giant cast iron pan, and you can crank out all kinds of stuff that you couldn't in a gas grill,....which means I will use it more often and have less to clean up had I cooked those foods in my kitchen. (no pots and pans or stove to clean) - I find that I get smelly when cooking on the Weber too. -My friend has never had grease on the deck. She has the 36 inch Blackstone and it may have a better grease pan setup.
Sounds great!! Thank you for your comment. Again most people dont fully watch most videos including mine and especially if they are predisposed in their beliefs may automatically be critical of what the Title or first few minutes offer..... this the RIDICILOUS attacks I get about what the point I was making....which is quite simple.....regardless of the use of healthier oils which is an excellent point...... My motivation here is that 99% of the reviews are about the performance or actual cooking of food rather than what my point was having been exposed to and cooked with traditional grills and this being my first Griddle experience (I never worked the Fast Food Griddle circuit) .... They are a GREASY cooking medium than traditional grill cooking...because the food sits in it's own grease. VERY SIMPLE CONCEPT that those with Ridiculous alteria motives refuse to agree with. As for your friend who doesnt get grease or oil splatter on his deck....I'm sorry but unless He has a mat or his 36" Griddle is a high end model with 360° wind protection (unlike my low 28" ) Grease splatters up and OUTWARDLY and eventually down around the perimeter of the Griddle. So if its decking....over time it Will accumulate grease. I appreciate your comments.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus I will probably get a mat as well. We have flagstone and I sure don't want to take the chance of grease splattering. Thank you for your honest review.
Another issue which you almost covered is that you need to clean while it's a little warm shortly after cooking.. but the problem (for me atleast) is most of the time after cooking and serving and eating.. im not always in the mood for cleaning it.. with a regular bbq grill you can just clean it next time you cook or next year lol. But with griddle, it has to be cleaned and prep after you cook.. (or after you're done eating) not very romantic . Also many don't come with covers or hoods. So flying bugs can land on the surface and stick to your greasy sticky food. We bought a table top 22 blakstone griddle, because it is the only version available localy..and was on sale $130. The 22 table top might be too big to carry it around for camping unless you own an RV.. for people doing camping with their daily vehicle, a 17 might be better for transport. But the best is probably the one reviewed in this video.. im still not sure which one is best between griddle and gas grill. Maybe i should look for stainless griddle that can be placed inside regular grill.. could be an alternative.
Cleanup immediately after cooking is QUICKEST...But not mandatory. There are tons of times I have company....I cook & eat...then afterwards I relight...reheat and cleanup.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus I feel in love with it from watching Bruce Mitchell from Swamp People on his Facebook page he's always cooking on his Blackstone's products and he has some awesome recipes.. it is so painful looking at the box because it's still winter here in New England
@@bigwill1183 Very Much Winter in New England!! But Spring is right around the corner!! Cooking Bacon ....or Sausage Egg & Cheese Sammy's... just like the Deli!!!
Appreciate it. It's NOTHING like a traditional Grill.... And a Traditional Grill is NOTHING like a Blackstone. If you are an avid outdoor BBQ person....this Blackstone 4 burner at $190 is cheap enough to keep alongside a Traditional Grill.
Do you miss the smokey flavor from grill after switching to griddle or as far as flavor you can't tell much difference that it was cooked on a griddle instead of a grill?
Great Question!!! Some people use the additional hickory wood in Traditional Grills which adds more smokey flavor.... There definitely isnt either the smokey flavor nor the "Charbroiled" flavor from the direct flame so yes a bit....although the char- burning of the food on Traditional grills is considered a carcinogen....I'm wondering if the increased fat grease intake from griddle use or added to most items (except from Veggies or fish)balances or equals that. Do I miss the smokey flavor....a bit. This upcoming season I will know much better as I havent used it a whole lot as it is like 6° outside!! But by Summers end 2019 I would probably have a better more Honest answer to that.
I keep my blackstone in the garage and just open the door to cook. My rear grease pan with foil cup catches 100% of the grease. There's not a single drop under it. I cook on it like 5 times a week. The only drops that I do encounter come off of my utensils when I hang them or stick them to the front magnet on mine.
Sounds good!! I'm getting many replies and responses about the grease getting on my deck..... This does have the rear grease cup which works great....what I was commenting on is the grease splatter which showers down from the burgers , Sausage , Kielbasa , bacon etc as it cooks. I have a dark colored Timbrex Patio and I noticed that after a few weeks there was splattered grease stains on the deck around the Blackstone. So those who have said they dont ...I'd like to see that!!! Overall it cooks well and your almost limitless on what you can cook on it!!!
Been looking at a Blackstone griddle for a little while now. You brought up some good points and appreciate it! Nice little video you did there with your experience. Still want one! LOL 😆. Gonna go check out the rest of your channel! Nice job! 👍
Its definitely a Great Outdoor Cooking experience!! Much more versatile than a traditional Grill. I'm very happy with it....and if you like super fast Burgers or grilled chicken this is amazingly Fast!!
I set up my new 28” Griddle and then I took a sledgehammer to my gas grill and fired bricks at it until it was destroyed. I had to send a message to my griddle that I was all in and fully committed. Griddle 4 ever!!!
They are pretty good!! I made marinades griddles chicken the other day that made the Space Station slow down for a whiff..... Seared each side like 6 minutes .....
I have used it quite a bit more since I shot this video and have posted a 1 year review video as well... Although I still dislike the greasy nature of the Griddle....I've since gotten the foil liners ....and aside from Bacon or other fatty types of meats...I've learned to griddle better...utilizing the stainless dome.....and using minimum oils.... Overall it's an Awesome griddle....Burgers and Chicken Breast sear and are much juicier and delicious over a Traditional grill which dries the crap out of chicken Breasts. Thanks for your comment.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus really good tip. i recently made burgers first time, used a grill, they were very dry. thinking of buying small cast iron griddle piece that you can put on top of a regular grill. i have a cast iron pan, that might have the same effect, although one side of the cast iron griddle has ridges in it. either way, i'll figure something out and i'll watch your other video too.
ive been using a flat plate bbq for over 20 years and have never washed the plate with water unless its really dirty in witch case i light the bbq get it really hot then pour water on most of witch will turn to steam and release the burned on parts then wipe with news paper and re oil to prevent rust on a day to day basis i use a stainless paint scraper for turning the meat as well as cleaning the plate if you let it cool down before you scrape the plate down the fat will harden and you can scrape it into some old news paper and put it straight in the bin
Wow, this was a amazing review. I was just about to buy one but I wasn’t sure. Everyone know that a griddle is awesome, but it needs a certain type of individual to keep up the maintenance on it. I just wanna fire up the grill, cook and go. I don’t wanna deal with grease, clean ups, blah blah blaaaa. Yes I know I can get healthier oils, grease mats and all the other crap. But, I don’t want to… just like charcoals.. I don’t wanna deals with it. I wanna fire up the grill and go. Thanks!
That's all I wanted to do in this review. There are alot of Awesome things about it but again most reviews are FOCUSED solely on those ...like those ridiculous TV commercials of the loving Husband...neatly coiffed....not a bead of sweat or dishevelment as He Cooks for Himself and his family plus 12 or so other guests. It's BS... my review is the REALITY and I'm glad I could help you make a decision. One good thing if you are on the fence is the cost...they are still much cheaper than an equal sized Weber or Vermont Castings.
Yes It Sears meat BETTER THAN a traditional Grill. I just posted an update. Dont let the fact that it has only 2 burners fool you.....that 28" rolled steel top gets PLENTY HOT to Sear anything you put on it!!! The larger Blackstone with 4 burners doesnt necessarily translate into a Hotter griddle....its to adequately and evenly heat the 36" rather than the two burners required for the 28!!
My gas grill has grease collection, most do. I have to clean my gas grill otherwise it will smell also. This dude just doesn't want to clean or not make a mess. Lol
I’m thinking about replacing my small charcoal grill with one of these. So how do burgers taste, any smoked like flavor, or is it no different than cooking inside on the stove?
These cook burgers and Chicken Breasts with a fast juicy sear.... The taste is completely different than your "BBQ Grill" especially if you have been using Charcoal..... I liken the flavor to more like your local Greasy spoon Luncheonette. Of course you can cook soooooo much more on these but as I mentioned....it is a greasy splattering cooking experience.....REGARDLESS of what some die hard griddlers may claim.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thanks for the quick response, that makes sense on the taste, I think I may just go with a bigger charcoal grill called the akorn kamado for $299 on Amazon.
Your welcome....I'm looking forward to using it again this Spring -Fall. Appreciate the comment. Some may think the cleanup or grease disposal is no big deal...or may not realize that cooking steak, burgers and other fatty foods means the food is sitting in this grease while cooking....and causes the splattering....So I mentioned it because most other reviews focus on the cooking or recipes. Thanks!!!
Yes....It naturally splatters . Although it is true that correct temperature does control the amount of Splatter....but Over time....especially if your cooking a full grill of bacon and burgers or steaks....there is grease that spits up and over the griddle down onto the deck. It may not seem like a big deal...and to some perhaps it's a non issue...but I brought it up for those who may not be aware...and have expensive composite timbrex or otherwise decks.
Think of this GRIDDLE as a large flat square cast iron skillet...but outdoors and without the depth. It's a greasy messy way to cook compared to traditional Grill
Hi La Raza.... The Jury is still out on that big question.... but the griddle is definitely more versatile and easy to use....no unhealthy char flare ups too.
@@robfamilia662 I think WE Think alike!! I try to provide REAL Practical reviews....I bought this late in the season last year so I haven't used it tremendously ....but Enough to form my basic review....The good thing as far as the " Greasey" nature of this cooking medium is you can adjust the use of added grease and physical eliminate excess surface grease by use of drainage.... prior to say putting a burger on a bun place it momentarily on a wire rack then on the bun.... But making breakfast.... on this griddle ....has never been more fun!
You realize using a pan or nearly anything other than a grill results in having the fat (or grease as you love to call it) around the food? It's strange that bothers y'all so much.
Yes I realize this....and my intent on making the video was not to sniveling or complain...but rather post a review video about the actual performance of the Griddle, the splatter and inherent greasiness of it.....whether by nature of keeping it seasoned or just cooking. Even those who are "Health conscious eaters or cooks" will have to use some sort of oil to properly cook on this..... There is a significant reaction and performance difference between this Griddle and say cooking in your average Teflon coated 12" skillet on a standard Stovetop. I just brought this out to those who like myself may not realize these things I pointed out regardless of whether they may seem " OBVIOUS"...but the video wasnt for my mental health or anything like that Lol
Hey D. Thanks for the comment. First off I have never been nor am I still a person who uses the Griddle more than a few times a month....but that's because of my lifestyle and work schedule. Now my initial few videos received alot of great comments but also I caught alot of HEAT being called a complainer about the grease..... but I stand FIRM in my review that as AWESOME this Griddle is..and the answer to your question is Hell Yeah..... I would.... but it is INHERENTLY A GREASY way to cook.....And I'm talking steaks, burgers, bacon etc..... Can you cook healthy YES.... This is where the AWESOME comes In.... You can Griddle things on it that you really cant on a Standard Grated grill..... Mixed loose veggies and fish. I'm actually filming a video review today!!!
What do you do with all that grease/water concoction? Can you put it in a compost? I think anytime you cook you smell like it-probably could have a fan on you.
Thats good to know. I was seriously considering getting one of these to replace my everyday gas grill thats getting rotted out but I'm not sure I can deal with all that splatter.
Its definitely a greasier cooking medium compared to the standard grated grill...however the rear grease cup and the aluminum grease cups I purchased just drop in and make grease disposal so much easier makes the experience of owning it better. There are ways to minimize the grease... overall Its a great alternative to conventional Gas Grills
Great opinion. I’m a retailer and looking to add the black stone line. I can hear all the complaints in my sleep already. “You guys ruined my deck, blah blah blah” you are spot on, that it’s education, that has to be shared, so others don’t make the mistake. Great, and honest!
Thanks...I appreciate that. Most reviews focus on the Performance of it....Its a great versatile Cooking option.... But Even as you become skilled at temperature and its effect on excess Splatter...its still a Greasy way to cook.
Great Question!!! No it has the two medium sized rear wheels on one end and standard flat legs on the other. So to level it one must do it the old fashioned way!!! Lol
Valid question. Look they are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Breed of Outdoor Cooking. This Blackstone is super versatile....can griddle anything and search Steaks & chicken....but NO GRILL MARKS!!! No Char flavor which I personally miss.
Yes it’s a different animal and the spatter and grease can be managed. The major difference is the end result of the food. Way different texture then open flame.
Yes. Of course....And I do manage grease splatter by using as little extra oils, butters and of course the correct temperature..... The vast majority understand the point of my reviews. It is a different animal
Although There are ways to minimize the grease splatter....by correct use of oil and proper temperature 🌡....it is inherently a greasy cooking medium compared to the Traditional Grill. I catch alot of negative critical "Heat" from viewers who DENY that grease is an issue.... Im glad you were able to make a decision.
It's all I could ask for....An Honest Real objective review .....But I've gotten a fair share of Backlash from the Die Hard Griddle or BBQ community....that either I complain too much or somehow being naive about the Grease......like I'm taking food out of their kids mouths.... Half of them didnt even watch my video. Glad I helped your friend make a decision.
Yes....All true....but it's purpose is the same....cooking outdoors. My purpose was to bring to the viewer points that they would or may not have thought of and certainly arent told by 99% of the other videos... some of what I consider are negatives....like the grease and the disposal, the splatter, the grease splattering on the deck below if you keep it there.... etc. So what may seem obvious to you...isnt at all what I meant to relay here.
Practically I think you’re right but I think this guy is right to compare them as outdoor cooking items (especially since they’re similarly priced) and it made for a useful video
Appreciate your input. I am using this video to decide whether to buy a griddle or grill. It like I can't afford to buy an apple and orange, and need to choose. Peace!
Excellent video. I don't know why other videos don't talk about the health side of it. Me and my wife are health conscious about the foods we eat and just could not live with this as a regular option for us. Cooking on a blackstone, or other similar products, is not healthy. It was like eating fast food every day from McDonalds. Everything needs oil or other substitute and literally cooks in it's own fat. Calories and fat galore is the name of the game with these flat top cooking surfaces. We went back to a gas grill and just replace one of our grill grates with a cast iron griddle when we feel like doing breakfast or whatever. Ideally, it would be nice to have both units if money and space were not an issue, but if you could only have 1 unit I would absolutely go with a gas grill. These are fun units but are nowhere near as glamorous as some videos and people make them out to be.
BINGO!! Thanks Mike....This is EXACTLY what I wanted people to see.....Inlike on TV where The Backyard BBQ for 25 is made to look like a snap...no mess ...All smiles...the Guy at the grill all perfectly Coiffed, dry & clean ...then as you mentioned the inherent grease and cleanup... Im not saying the grill doesn't perform...Just wanted a offer a practical & different viewpoint . Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!!
Please elaborate on how it's like eating fast food everyday? That's ridiculous. The quality of your food is dependent on the food you choose to eat, not whether you cook it on a grill or flatop. Do you not cook anything on a pan either because that's exactly the same as a flatop grill. If you think cooking every meal on a grill makes your hamburgers healthy because it slightly reduces the fat content you aren't as health conscious as you think.
@@JXN1999 Bullshit. You're being dishonest if you claim a flattop grill is healthier, or even as healthy, than a gas grill with grates. We could cook the exact same meal on each unit and I guarantee the flattop grill would be the highest calorie and fat content of the 2. Love what you love, I couldn't care less. But if you had any idea how to eat healthy you wouldn't have replied with that BS in the first place.
@@jonthornton4083 That's what I was thinking.....You mentioned being from the South.....I really don't know what your point was....aside from your from the south and that I dont need to smell my food???
Exactly what i was thinking; probably makes you smell like your working on McDonalds. Also probably have to clean right after you cook rather than wait until next time
If you are cooking a full griddle....burgers, Sausage, Dogs...Steaks....grilling onions or Bacon....plan on a complete change of clothing afterwards even while wearing a full apron. You will be a walking grease pit....even with proper temp and reduced splattering. It's the nature of the beast as opposed to a standard BBQ Grill with grates. As for cleanup....As you use it more & more the better you get in quick cleaning. It's not absolutely necessary to immediately clean it....if you're with guests, hungry, or want to eat right away...you can either leave it on low then raise the heat up and clean it...OR....Shut it down then when your ready to clean....heat it back up...then go to town cleaning. Look It's definitely a messy smelly outdoor cooking medium but it's soooo versatile....and makes delicious smashburgers, Grilled Chicken , Sausage & 🥞 Pancakes....!!
I have had my Blackstone two years now. I use it often. I purchased a gas infrared grill before I got the Blackstone. Used the gas grill about 4 times and gave it to my daughter. I would not have another gas grill at my house if you gave it to me. When I want to smoke meat, I fire up the ultimate Big Green Egg. The Blackstone is tops for flat top cooking. Cleaning this grill is nothing if you know what you are doing.
All True!! I think the amount of griddle space and the nature of it makes the cooking Possibilities endless.....Eggs, Steakums, Cheesesteaks, Tuna, chipped Veggies!! Etc. My complaint about the grease & cleanup has nothing to do with my ability to clean it up.....Yes cleanup is a piece of cake....my point in this video is to Point out that with this Griddle....there is the grease to deal with as opposed to a grill which burns it off. My point was that 99% of the videos skirt the issue of the sloppy grease, the fact that while on camera it shows squeezing off the water bottle and scraping away and pushing it all on the grease rail or through the back .....but not the REALITY of after month of use...the inherent buildup of grease. Whether or not it's a "BIG DEAL " Is completely subjective to the person who owns the griddle..... Hence the difference between the BLACKSTONE GRIDDLE and the Non grease disposal of a Traditional grill.
@@mesta9997 My Blackstone is the older one with the trough in the front that moves the grease to the catch pan on the right side. I have cooked about everything I can think of on this griddle and some times excess grease moves down the trough to the catch. That is fine. The way I keep my griddle clean is not secret. As soon as the food is finished and in the house, I get out my scraper while the griddle is still hot and scrape it down. I move all the grease and debris to the left side of my griddle and with the scraper against the side of the griddle and lift it off. After as much as I can get off th griddle I take paper towel folding a couple of times and with the scraper clean the entire griddle. There will be enough grease left on the griddle to keep it from rusting until the next time. It is that easy.
With a charcoal grill you have to deal with the charcoal and cleaning of the ashes. With gas grills you still have to deal with the drippings that drip down. Also with grills you have to deal with flare ups which results in charring which is not healthy for you. And you will smell like bbq smoke vs oily smell. As for cleanup you still have to clean the grill grates of a grill. The only difference really is splatter or how you like your food to taste either grilled or griddled. There are some things meant for a grill and some things meant for a griddle.
True....All of your points are true and valid. One thing I found with the Griddle is if it's too hot the splatter is even worse....for obvious reasons especially if cooking Bacon or fatty meats.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Yeah but you can't cook bacon on a grill. I have the small single burner unit and I usually place some old cardboard on the ground when I cook something that splatters. I love it because I can cook a lot more at a time vs using a frying pan and I don't have splatters all over my stove, counters and kitchen floors and the smell in the house. I still gotta have my bbq grill though. Sometimes I just take the griddle top and place it on one side of my bbq grill and use it that way to save me some set up time or have a combo grill and griddle set up. Apples and oranges.
This is the first negative thing I’ve heard about the Blackstone. Cleaning up the grease is not that big of a deal nor is it hard. I recommend one. Forget ur old school grills
Thanks for the input. Some may see it as a Negative.....I was pointing it out as opposed to a traditional grill that you do have the grease disposal.....especially if you're cooking slabs of bacon , Sausage or fatty meats regularly. Some people may not realize that.
Thanks for the honest input. It is a negative. I cook on the grill for convenience. I need a new one and was considering a griddle. I just don't have the luxury of time when it comes to clean up and mess. It answers my very concern. @@Jimswholiestofcoleus
Why do you keep calling it a grill, is it not a griddle ? Your whole video except one time you call it a grill, did your grill or your griddle make that mess on your deck ? Thanks
Hi JSG II.... I believe I made the distinction between the Blackstone being a "GRIDDLE " and the traditional grated Gas or Charcoal setup being a GRILL that We grew up with... or at least I at 60 yrs old have. I may have jumbled the two inadvertently during the course of the video lol..... And as far as the "grease Splatter" .... My Traditional Grill NEVER splattered because the steaks , sausage or burgers weren't sitting in their own grease like the " "GRIDDLE" but instead the drippings dropped down onto the briquettes, got burned up ( flares) and or dropped into the grease cup..... True excessive Hi Heat or incorrect Temperature on the " Blackstone Griddle" will increase splatter...but a GRIDDLE full of bacon, sausage and burgers on top of a nice Timbrex or wood Deck over time will WITHOUT A DOUBT stain .
Exactly ! Amen
I appreciate your honest review. I’ve been considering a black stone grill, and hadnt thought about the splatter, cleaning, etc. thank you.
You can cook so much more on it than a traditional grill...But it's a greasy way of cooking outdoors and when your done cooking....your clothes smell...even wearing an apron. Its the one negative that I cant help but bring up.
I’ve got a traeger.. getting the black stone tomorrow... and will officially be crowned king of the neighborhood... I’m getting emotional 😂
Only until someone shows up with a RecTec smoker and a Camp Chef
J Top ... rec tec... ok they got me.... camp chef?? We will have to have a showdown 😂
J Top ... I concede.. you are correct... I’m at least the prince of my neighborhood though right??😂
U the man did that last week
Thank you for your experience!
We’re thinking about a griddle for our family and are still mulling it over haha!
Very Good!!
I'm keeping my Weber, and buying the new 28" Black Stone. I'll have the best of both worlds. Thanks for the video.
The great thing about the 28" Griddle is its compact , runs on standard propane so a side by side Griddle/ Weber grill patio makes for an awesome outdoor cooking area!!
I agree. Like I said, best of both worlds.
I wonder how it would do with aluminum foil on top to keep the mess down.
that's my plan as well. Want something to make Smashburgers on.
good video! thanks,, glad you mentioned about the grease splatter on the deck because that's where i was going to place mine,,
There are ways to minimize the splatter but istill by nature of the griddle fatty foods like Bacon and Burgers Splatter.
Thank you!
Yeah, flat tops are complete garbage
Very welcome! Glad to help
Thanks for your honest opinion! This video was very informative and helpful.
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Appreciate the comment!!!
i have a hundred dollar gift certificate for home depot, just waiting for the next grill to go on sale. may end up with the blackstone before that ever happens. lol
the only thing stopping me is i ca not eat the things i used too.
@@sharkair2839 I should add that we bought the Blackstone, and we're quite happy with it.
You can cook plenty healthy on it with minimal healthy oils!!
Excellent!! I hope your Happy with it. But I look at it this way...they are SOOOO reasonably priced cant go wrong!!
This 28" is perfect for my family ( My wife & I and my teenager son.)
My review may seem negative...but if you really look at it objectively It wasn't.
Thank You Paul!!
(no pots and pans or stove to clean)
- I find that I get smelly when cooking on the Weber too.
Very Good!! A mat will definitely keep the splatter off your deck!!
There are tons of times I have company....I cook & eat...then afterwards I relight...reheat and cleanup.
the cleanup does take some getting used to but it's worth it.keep your grill though for baked potatoes and bbq chicken.
How do you have to clean up?
I've got the 36 inch Blackstone. No complains ! Love it!
AWESOME!!!

Fantastic review dude. Exactly the inside info I didn’t know I need.
Thank you very informative 👍

It actually isnt time consuming....just make sure your using water , the scraper and the griddle should be hot.

Yes. I hit it with water and anything left on top burns away....as I push it off to the rear trap. These as you know get better as u use them
Wow, this was a amazing review. I was just about to buy one but I wasn’t sure. Everyone know that a griddle is awesome, but it needs a certain type of individual to keep up the maintenance on it.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus what do you think of the Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle?
Does this 2 burner get plenty hot for good sear on meats? Also what’s your update how’s it doing? Menards has this
Yes It Sears meat BETTER THAN a traditional Grill.
Lol
AGREED!! If it were up to me I'd eat out !!
Thank you for this review. It's great to hear the other point of view re the cleanup involved.
Thanks!!!
how did you get grease all over your deck if there is the drip pan for the grease? Does the grease really splatter all over?
Yes....It naturally splatters . Although it is true that correct temperature does control the amount of Splatter....but Over time....especially if your cooking a full grill of bacon and burgers or steaks....there is grease that spits up and over the griddle down onto the deck. It may not seem like a big deal...and to some perhaps it's a non issue...but I brought it up for those who may not be aware...and have expensive composite timbrex or otherwise decks.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus okay thanks for the advice!
I would prefer griddle to a grill provided i can find one with a cover. And how are griddles for slow cooking like bone in chicken?
Think of this GRIDDLE as a large flat square cast iron skillet...but outdoors and without the depth. It's a greasy messy way to cook compared to traditional Grill
So far, which one do you prefer, a grill or griddle ?

tremendously ....but Enough to form my basic review....The good thing as far as the " Greasey" nature of this cooking medium is you can adjust the use of added grease and physical eliminate excess surface grease by use of drainage.... prior to say putting a burger on a bun place it momentarily on a wire rack then on the bun....
But making breakfast.... on this griddle ....has never been more fun!
great review. there is a reason restaurants that use griddles are called greasy spoons.
Oh Yeah!!! Lol

@@Jimswholiestofcoleus thanks for your time and coe back i'll check you out

Can you put it in a compost?
I think anytime you cook you smell like it-probably could have a fan on you.
This has a grease tray in the back which have disposal aluminum liners...after the grease cools..it solidifies and I toss in a plastic bag in trash
Also, they make hamburger lids that are a must for steaming anything. Or melting anything
Yep...The Stainless steel Dome!!! A must for quickie cheese melts...& awesome cheesesteaks!!! Also reduces the splatter!!
Great video
Thanks Mike
Does it have an adjustment to level it?
Great Question!!! No it has the two medium sized rear wheels on one end and standard flat legs on the other. So to level it one must do it the old fashioned way!!! Lol
Does any miss the grill marks tho, that’s what I’m worried about
Valid question.
You definitely unsold me on one of these. To heck with all that grease clean up.

Not to State the obvious but its a Griddle not a Grill they are totally different like comparing apples to oranges ....
Practically I think you’re right but I think this guy is right to compare them as outdoor cooking items (especially since they’re similarly priced) and it made for a useful video
not to state the obvious but really?
Appreciate your input. I am using this video to decide whether to buy a griddle or grill. It like I can't afford to buy an apple and orange, and need to choose. Peace!
Uniflame do one, any good?
You could
Excellent video.
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus yeah but if you clean it right, there shouldn’t be any grease buildup
hhhhhhhhhowwww. If you add 'if you know what you're doing,' why not elaborate! Teach us secrets only yiou know! 🤯
Griddle over traditional grill every time!

So in other words it's an giant outdoor frying pan.....
Yes It is.
@@peaceprayer595 Your Welcome.
Appreciate your watching...hope I clarified & answered your questions
Snowflakes trying to reinvent a charcoal grill, just go inside and bake some cupcakes, get this George Foreman grill outta here.
