  • "And how far can you get on the motorway" is one of the most frequently asked questions about electric cars. This is also one of the most asked questions in the comments section of our Tesla Model 3 test videos.
So we took the Tesla Model 3 (Long Range) on the German Autobahn for a test drive. We drove it once with a target speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and then the same distance with 120 km/h (74 mph) again. The two speeds chosen are in our experience the range in which most Tesla owners in Germany would travel on long distance trips.
The 150 km/h mark the limit for the Tesla autopilot - most Tesla drivers do not want to miss the comfort gain of the autopilot any more.
The 120 km/h is for drivers who want to drive with as few supercharger stops as possible. Interestingly, at 120 km/h you are not the slowest car on the road - an astonishing number of cars in Germany drive below 120 km/h.
We have determined the following results:
    150 km/h (93 mph):
    - Consumption: 229 Wh/km
    - Range: 315 km (196 mi)
    120 km/h (74 mph):
    - Consumption: 164 Wh/km
    - Range: 450 km (280 mi)
