It looks like a nice "backpack" size crawler. I'm also into mountain biking, so it looks like a good size truck to take riding. There's a few nice rocky gullies at the local bike park, so I may need to get a Capra of this scale. It looks a bit more outdoors friendly than the SCX24. Personally I'd love to see a both a Wraith and Honcho of this same size, and with the same portal axles.
This is the ideal scale (~1/14-1/16) for a portable RC. I'm sure you'll come around! Just ask the WPL crowd. Now that Axial makes this truck we have so many new parts to use for custom builds! I'm liking my UTB18 so far and am planning to put a WPL C34 body on it.
Hi Josh Thanks for sharing this CAPRA with us. I didn't get into the 1/24 scale trucks. After watching the REVIEW videos of this truck. I really like the size style and now after watching this. I am impressed with its performance and like you said with added improvements I think I'm going to be VERY HAPPY. With the grey fox capra I have pre ordered with all hop Ups I will need. Thanks and take care 🇬🇧🇺🇲🕊️✌🏼🤙🏼
I tried to get into the 1/24 stuff. It was ok, very easy to take with me anywhere. But, they rarely got used. I've had my utb18 for about 6 months now, and use it all the time. I drive it more than my 1/10 rigs now. After a few simple upgrades like tires and ESC, it's just as capable. And it's way easier to take along with me. Great review.
I’m going to wait and see what the aftermarket scene looks like for this. I already want a 10th scale Capra for bashing, but this may be a lot more fun to turn into a little speed demon.
Going to skip this one, the price point being the deal breaker. High fun factor, high potential factor, but the price point just makes me shake my head no. ITs time for all of us as consumers to start sending a message to companies, always passing on increased costs for manufacturing to the customer gets a bit old when you keep hearing about record profits year after year.
Little buggy is pretty rad! At the 9:54 mark, that was a badass transition🔥💪💯! Diggin the small Capra..rear steer is a must..🤔..yep, gonna need that one for sure😂🤙
I was going to get one before seeing this video but was thinking at the first of 2023. Now I’m think I should just go ahead and order it today see as it’s my birthday next week. Upgrades here we come!
Totally agree bro. 199.99 woulda been perfect and sold me on it. Flex is good but I can’t justify spending another 250.00 just for upgrades, motor, weights, links, etc. for that scale. That being said, stock rtr is great lil rig. Great review as always!
after the live show couple days ago I finally when with the Axial 1/18. Two for Christmas. But I opening my crawler next week. Nice change from all our scale trucks big and small. I am ready for pure performance.
I think it looks like a lot of fun. It seems like , a few upgrades and a little bit of weight added, will really make it a blast to drive and see what kind of lines it can really handle! Look forward to see what you do with it.
Got our mini capras in Saturday. Glad pulled from trx4m. They're cute but still to small now that I seen one in person. Mini capras a perfect size in my opinion
it's hard for me to get interested in this size. If I'm going to use it outside, the 1/10 scale is just better in all ways. If I'm going to use it inside or in a very compact outside area, it's way too big. This truck seems to be aimed directly at the first-time hobby grade crawler buyer that doesn't want to spend 1/10 scale crawler money. As you said, RC prices, like absolutely everything else, are going way up, so this allows Axial to provide a sub $300 option for all of the parents who got sticker shock when they went to the hobby store to get the 1/10 scale RC Crawler that their kid had on his Christmas list.
I like it, tons of potential there! I still think $250 is too much but when you consider it's really closer to 1/12 scale -1/14 scale, then easier to swallow. I'm wondering if Axial originally was going to release this as a bigger scale but saw the writing on the wall and badged it as 1/18 instead? Everything people are complaining about though, can be fixed. I mean, how many people do you see, still running a stock 1/10 Capra? Like I said, tons of potential. My only gripe with the scale is, it's so close in size to the 1/10 Capra that people may not see the point of going to a slightly smaller truck and it's really not practical for running indoors. Time will tell! 👍
Some curious routes for upgrading out there. To escape gravity, ideally, weight needs removing or redistributing. 1.9 wheels won't help throttle modulation or CofG. Looking forward to seeing some well considered improvements. Great running video!
I like it. Just small enough to fit nicely in a pannier bag on my adventure bike and go find a off the beaten track place to go drive it. I been looking for something like that for years.
It's called the UTB it's one letter away from a UTV. It's the perfect size for being a side by side or like minded vehicle I purchased a yeti Jr and that was smaller. I think it's deff like 1/16th or 14th scale. I think this will be a better vehicle just for the scale enthusiast who are looking for a can am or trail vehicle of that nature.
It sure is an oddball, but that also kinda makes it attractive. I haven't gotten my fill of 1/10 yet but after a couple more I'll certainly consider this.
I’ve had mine for about three months. I’ve changed it a lot. Running a Furturic, alloy/brass everything, 1.9’s, blah blah blah. I love it. It’s size makes it really fun albeit challenging on a 1/10 scale size course. I do plan on switching over to rear steer. Love the channel. Compared to RC Girl your ugly. But I’ll deal with it. Lol
Thanks for another great video Josh. I’m glad you reviewed the UTB18 in it’s stock form. I’m on the fence but I do like the size and I’m interested in what your plans are for this vehicle. I do think it’s too tall and I want to see how you’ll make it hunker down. Appreciate the content🤘🏻
I had the 1/18 scale Yeti and didn't like it at all. It felt cheap, like something you would get at Radio Shack 30 years ago. If this is anything like that, I'll pass.
I would have been a buyer at 200, but 250 is a bit more than I'd pay, there are so many options in the 1/18 to 1/12 scale area in the 150 to 200 price range for me to spend more than that. I will keep an eye open for a used one in a few months when ppl have buyers remorse tho
I ordered mine with most of the upgrades and gonna attempt 4ws, for the price I wish it was 4ws already.. I wanted a smaller size rc for certain situations and the scx24 I have is just too small and I hate working on it so 18th seems like I will like it far better...
It’s amazing how much difference in size the Capra is compared to the M 2 completely different RC’s which makes it nice because you can get both for $400. It settles nicely but your right it looks way better lower. Shot limiters or shorter shocks maybe. Definitely gunna have to work on getting it lower. This is the first time I’ve seen it right next to the 1:10 scale version & ya it’s BIG! But this Fox version has got me so my 1:10 Scale Capra is getting a little Buddy.
What would you upgrade? Does it have a potential to be a trail basher and still do some decent crawling? What kind of electronics are even out there for this scale?
I love my converted 4ws 10th scale Capra, it's a beast. Like the new 18th scale capra, but the price is a tad steep. £225 is the cheapest I've seen it for so fat in the UK. Great video, how much were all the standard upgrades? John
Price point is what is scaring me away from this. It’s at same price point as buying a SCX10 builders kit or Element kit. It looks very toy grade and I think Axial hopes that they cash in on the money suck these could be (like the SCX24’s). I agree that if the price point was $199.. I’d consider one
Go down the rabbit hole!!! You know you should build a mini class crawler!!! Use the axles and gearbox, get a mini chassis and just build a comp car again!!!! You know you want to! ;)
awesome show, awesome crawler. 1/18 is more fun outside than 1/24. dont shoot me, i'm happy about 1/18 bc it turns local boulders into mountains. still cant afford it these days ,'(
Looks interesting really like the full size servo. Also got a set of the Wheels of Furtune you did. Sadly they're all there so you can't move of the board lol
Calling that a 1/18th scale was a huge mistake in terms of marketing IMO. Anyone looking at it online is going to compare that price point to the TRX4M and nope right out of what, by all appearances and reviews I've seen to date, is a fantastic little rig.
If it'd been closer to 24th scale, and the appropriate price tag along the lines of the scx24, I'd be interested. As it sits, it's not even on the radar for me. Not quite big enough for outdoors and too big for indoors.
I agree - most 1:1 rock buggies have a much smaller cage/body on stock width axles, whereas the Capra has huge oversize axles - it's more like a 1:8th scale bouncer.
It’s too big to be small. At that size and ridiculous price, I’d buy the regular Capra. I’d really have liked to have seen it about the same size as the TRX4m and around the $180 range at most. I am glad, however, that it is not 1/24th scale. I like Axial products but I think they missed the mark on this one.
Great video I run all 1/10 scale Crawlers have 2 Capras too 1/10- but I like to try one of these in 1/18 I see they have the Dark green one for $219 and this orange one for $249 whats the difference between the two -Thankyou
I had a 1/10 Capra and sold after about a year because I could never get completely happy with it. I wonder if the 1/18 would be the same story for me. I'm at the point of do I go back to a Capra or just dive head first and build a sporty.
As a die hard lover of the Losi MRC, this release hit me straight in the feels. The MRC is almost exactly the same size and was marketed as 1:18 scale. I'm sure Josh will chime in but I'm thinking stock tires won't be that grippy and you need heavier wheels anyways. So, I'd go go with 1.9 wheels (metal) and tires - some great options, even at 3.85 or 4.19 size. 👍

Hey Josh, not sure how to better contact you or where else to ask but what tool should I be using to attach my KMC Tanks to my Phoenix Portal axles? I have the SLW hex set and they’re too narrow for any 8mm hex nut driver I can find.
It looks like a nice "backpack" size crawler. I'm also into mountain biking, so it looks like a good size truck to take riding. There's a few nice rocky gullies at the local bike park, so I may need to get a Capra of this scale. It looks a bit more outdoors friendly than the SCX24.

I fought the want for one, but ended up going for it. Glad I did, one of the most fun rigs I’ve ever owned! It’s def worth the price tag.

Ups I will need. Thanks and take care 🇬🇧🇺🇲🕊️✌🏼🤙🏼
I was at walmart today and it got me thinking, the baby capra is the perfect scale for a new bright body, to have a semi scale rig
This little thing looks perfect for indoor crawling during the winter.
Barometer adjusted, like button engaged.
I tried to get into the 1/24 stuff. It was ok, very easy to take with me anywhere. But, they rarely got used. I've had my utb18 for about 6 months now, and use it all the time. I think your right might be more fun than the 24th scale stuff. little bit easier on the eyes and fingers too. Now I have to order one . GREAT!!

That orange and grey Fox version looks sweet! 🤘🏻

Sounds like you are just complaining too much, don't buy it maybe? 😂😂
I got one for my daughter and I love messing with it, it’s a fun transition from my 1:10 and my daughter loves it too!
I ran a few packs through mine yesterday and love it so far. I was skeptical until I saw videos on it from West Desert Wheeler and RC_Driver
I like it, tons of potential there! I still think $250 is too much but when you consider it's really closer to 1/12 scale -1/14 scale, then easier to swallow. You will be able to buy the full front axle set already complete later without servo for $45. It's on the towerhobbies site
Some curious routes for upgrading out there. To escape gravity, ideally, weight needs removing or redistributing. 1.9 wheels won't help throttle modulation or CofG. Looking forward to seeing some well considered improvements. Great running video!
A good base to grow the 1.9 mini comp scene.
I wasn't sure when I first saw these but after watching a few videos and having the original capra...I might just have to pick this one up
Back pack size , where the 1Oth is too much and the 24th is too small for unprepped trail / obstacles....I dig it.
I'm definitely gonna own a couple for me and the wife. The capra is a awesome platform and I see this one being just as good. Great review josh 👍
It sure is an oddball, but that also kinda makes it attractive. I haven't gotten my fill of 1/10 yet but after a couple more I'll certainly consider this.
Ride height is easily adjustable using internal shock spacers. I like it.
How will this fit the 1/14th scale Tamiya trucks? I want a functional scale car/crawler for my trailer.
I’ve had mine for about three months. I’ve changed it a lot. Running a Furturic, alloy/brass everything, 1.9’s, blah blah blah.
I love it. It’s size makes it really fun albeit challenging on a 1/10 scale size course.

Love the channel. Compared to RC Girl your ugly. But I’ll deal with it. Lol
Ordered mine today just starting out with crawlers.

Great video but I'm not sure about this one 👍
Josh, i think you found your next monthly mayhem challenge. Let’s see it go 60+mph. Lol
I ordered mine with most of the upgrades and gonna attempt 4ws, for the price I wish it was 4ws already.. I wanted a smaller size rc for certain situations and the scx24 I have is just too small and I hate working on it so 18th seems like I will like it far better...
Love the "LEGO man hand" feature on the hood!🤣 I do like the size of it and it looks like a cool little rig!
It’s amazing how much difference in size the Capra is compared to the M 2 completely different RC’s which makes it nice because you can get both for $400. I have a Tamiya Wild Willy body that has been collecting dust waiting for a platform like this. This may be on my Christmas list....
I’m curious to see if the shock mounts can be raised to lower the chassis down a bit.
Price point is what is scaring me away from this. It’s at same price point as buying a SCX10 builders kit or Element kit. Go down the rabbit hole!!!
You know you should build a mini class crawler!!!
Use the axles and gearbox, get a mini chassis and just build a comp car again!!!!
You know you want to! ;)
Great review I would love to see it next to the discontinued ecx temper 2 1/18. I am assuming this model was designed to replace the temper 2
I like the look of it. Will wait to see more about it.
Man looks pretty capable out of the box 📦 was wondering why no foam but looks like it works on the rocks
awesome show, awesome crawler.
I wish it was cheaper, but at the same time I’ve spent double that on upgrading a single scx24. So maybe it’s not that bad!
Nice! This thing looks and crawls great.Good driving and I may need to add this to my collection after watching this video.
Im interested, but it may be just a size I don't want to fool with.
Calling that a 1/18th scale was a huge mistake in terms of marketing IMO. Anyone looking at it online is going to compare that price point to the TRX4M and nope right out of what, by all appearances and reviews I've seen to date, is a fantastic little rig.

I smell a new project coming! 👍
Yes
It seems to me like they brought it in at $250 right before Christmas on purpose. I bet we'll see discounts before and price drops afterwards
Either way scale is just a subjective number that doesn't matter much anyhow.
The advantage of trucks this size is the ability to use parts from "full size" 1:10 crawlers. My UTB is going straight to 1.9s for tire options alone. From a quick squish and turn check, a 4 inch tire should fit with minimal if any rub. Some lighter shock oil and maybe find some lighter springs should help the stance. Otherwise its a nice compact rig that is much more capable than the 1:24 stuff.
this two features are the "Buy" argument: full size steering servo and 1.55" wheels with 12 mm hex
Can’t afford the VP 3 gear and dig for my 1/10 Capra. What are your thoughts on the VP ring and pinion underdrive in the rear instead to improve the gearing?
I have the UTB18 and with son good mods it's a real good rockbouncer.
Altot of people make the mistake by calling this a crawler and expecting that it will bee a crawler.
This is not a crawler but a rockbouncer.
And we all know the difference abouth a crawler and a bouncer.
Great video, thank you. It looks like I would have a ton of fun with it, but for $250 I am not interested.
love to get one, but the price is an issue for something that small... add a little and i could get a VP Phoenix hehe
I mean.... I get it. I think this scale which is really 12th or 14th hahaha is going to become bigger then 24th scale.
In the semce of you can go more places with this.
Do I need one.... no.
Is cool... yeah... its not terrible.
But all in all, great video.
Mine arrives on Friday!!
Looks like a close match to one of those 1/12 twin hammers knockoffs
You should compare it to the temper gen 2
I’ve got one on order in Aus, keen to get hold of it and see what you do with yours mate!
Do you think we’d be better going straight to 1.9 wheels and tyres, or get some beadlocks and some foams and give those stock tyres a run til they wear out?
I'm sure Josh will chime in but I'm thinking stock tires won't be that grippy and you need heavier wheels anyways. So, I'd go go with 1.9 wheels (metal) and tires - some great options, even at 3.85 or 4.19 size. 👍
Could you move the spacers from the bottom of the shock shaft to inside to lower the ride height but keep the same travel?
for me it's too much of an oddball. I'd rather have 10th scale capra for trails and outdoor crawling. For a smaller crawler I want to use it indoors and this size is way too big to get a decent size course built (unless you have a warehouse). 24th scale or 10th scale for me personally.
I like it. But converted it’s $350 Canadian. If it goes on sale it would be worth it.
$350 seems like a good deal. Converted to ARS it’s $39,837!
Time for a new 50.00 a week project 😊
I talked made shit about this because “iTs ToO bIg” but my girlfriend bought me one and I have to say I really enjoy it. Right out of the box with zero mods it’s a pretty capable rig. I really enjoy it just wish it was 4ws
Where do you find these cool places to test?
$250 is still too much for that rig. Not thinking it will fit in my stable of rc vehicles. I was excited for it until the price was announced. I'll just stick with my 1/10 scale trucks for a while. Thank you very much for the video.
Josh,
Do you think the axles are any good for a WRCCA Mini Crawler?
As it stands only the links are to long ;)
Cheers
Daniel
Exactly what I was thinking! Options for mini builds are pretty limited, or require modification, and these might just be the ticket? 👍
The 24 scale crawlers may have their hiccups but there's no better feeling than building a competitive chassis.
I'm waiting on mine to arrive from Amain. My home's rock garden should be a fun and challenging course for it compared to my 1/10 scale trucks.
12:07 i thought my cat was screaming but i think it was yours!

Hey Josh, not sure how to better contact you or where else to ask but what tool should I be using to attach my KMC Tanks to my Phoenix Portal axles? I have the SLW hex set and they’re too narrow for any 8mm hex nut driver I can find.
Is vanquish going to make any parts for the 1/18 Capra?
Josh I would like know do you feel that the transmission is over geared like the 10th scale?
Seems pretty capable!
Looks like a monster truck setting behind the mini bronco
Looks like Folsom Lake. I sometimes wonder if you ever run into Rich Duperbash filming out there for some unexpected collab 😂
dang man, I'm just into that crawl spot. Where are you guys in this video?
Folsom Lake here in Sacramento.
@@HarleyDesignsInc awesome. I’m in San Diego. Might have to jump in the Gladiator and bring some crawlers up there. Thanks man. Great footage.
Is that Folsom Lake?
It would help if manufacturers all did a legit scaling. That is a 1:10 scale all day. Just like the Axial Yeti Jr.
