@@thisp666 Yeah a shame after 2003 injury she lost her speed. Think she had a left knee operation. @@thisp666 Serena and Venus sustained injures in 2003 which created an opening for other players specifically in 2004 and 2006 where neither sister won a GS. Both still went on to win more GS, but people knew to exploit Venus' 2nd serve and move Serena around the court. In later years, Serena's weight became more of an issue. @@got2bjosh Completely agree, Venus and Serena injury open the door for other players to win grand slams 2004-2006. Venus and Serena was never the same after 2003. Venus serve wasn't as powerful and Serena was less explosive
Even though she lost in the final I think the 2001 us open was a bit of a turning point for Serena as she had been a little disappointing in the slams since her 99 win. But here she beat Henin, Davenport, and Hingis, couldn’t ask for a much tougher draw. She lost to Venus but I think it set the tone for 2002 when she began dominating.

Matches like these shows how players like Henin and other top players had to improved their game in order to challenge the William sisters. Henin did not play badly in this match. She lost to both of the William sisters in back to back Grand slam matches in 2001 losing the each matches 0-6 in the set.
