I am from Chicago. Live in St. Louis. Miss Chicago pizza, they recently opened a Nancy’s pizza-Thin Chicago and deep dish. Thin was the closest to what I grew up on-Capris pizza in the south side.
I'm also from Chicago and live in St. Louis and I miss south side tavern style so much. Imo's or other STL style pizzas just aren't the same, although some other foods are arguable comparable here. Even at Sauce on the Side, when I built my own calzone, I asked for sausage, green pepper, onion and mushroom and the person taking the order was like, "Wait what? Are you sure?" lol. That's just a Chicago staple combination.
Deep dish is for tourists. Thin crust is what my mom would let us order every Sunday from a place down the street (Waldo Cooney's by 51st and Western) It wasn't the best, very greasy, but it's nostalgic
I don’t like thin crust it is awful it is tasteless and has no crunch But deep dish pizza is full of flavor and has the perfect crunch just like the great city of Chicago
Luis, I'm gearing up for a move to Chicago this summer and you've singlehandedly made me fall in love with the city before I ever set my own eyes on it. Love pizza and love what you're doing on this channel. Looking forward to whatever comes next!
Hi Luis, Thanks for the great video! I’m originally from Chicago, and everyone I knew always loved thin crust pizza the best. My experience too, was that deep dish pizza was eaten only once in awhile, on special occasions.
TY! I've been trying to make it to a Tuesday at Bungalow by Middle Brow for that espresso laced pizza......sounds like heaven to a coffee and pizza lover ;) It's so nice to get a preview. And, the interior of the place looks more like a pizza boutique. I love the artistry and creativity of Chicagoans for sure! On that other topic, I agree deep dish is more for tourists than locals.....but, for me, when i have a day where I'm super tired but also super starving because I let too much time (or all day) go by without eating anything.......that means I need food immediately, right? And, that's what I like deep dish for.....I just buy one already made SLICE (not a whole pie or anything)......and that's it!! I'm full. The speed and efficiency and money savings is exactly what you need some days - yeah? But, of course, I see alot of people visit me and try to ingest more than one slice and I feel like that might be where any negative comments come from.....you gotta stop before you're full with that deep dish because it's alot!!! The "city of big shoulders" doesn't play games with pizza, lol.
The tavern pizza along with Italian Beef is what I miss the most about not living in Chicago anymore. It's so hard to find a really good pizza here in Miami.
Aloha Luis! Hawaii girl here and I really enjoy your videos about Chicago! Learning alot n making a list of all the places I wanna eat at! I’ll be running the Chicago marathon in Oct..I’d appreciate any recommendations on great pasta restaurants? I gotta carbo load! Mahalo!🌺🌴🌞🏃🏻♀️
@Luis Gusto The F&S in Logan Square by my house closed a few years ago, it was a sad day. Federales Chicago will be at that location next summer. But I still get F&S pizza at their last location in Northbrook. Yup, they still open bro, that thin crust is 🔥. Look it up.
Milwaukee style pizza is similar than Chicago thin crust, my wife and I love the every thing but anchovy pizza, I don’t like anchovies on pizza, though I tolerate them on Caesar salads.
Try a sausage, pepperoni, red onion, bacon, hot giardiniera Pizza, well DONE. My friend owned a pizzeria until last year, he got out before the age of 50( lucky him after 28 owning and working for his uncle( whose family owned tons of pizzerias in Italian restaurants throughout Chicago) for another 12 years. You will not be disappointed
Looks like those brews from Mars were hittin’! 😂 Thanks for showcasing the lesser known spots that have great tavern style. I live in NJ (just outside NYC) now and the pizza here is great but I really miss that Chicago thin.
I plan on going to Chicago in April. Maybe you and Narisa can give us a personal tour to some of those pizza joints that serve the tavern pizza. That’s MY favorite style pizza.
Agree, Chicago tavern-style is the best. Have had pizza everywhere, including Rome. Still love thin-crust from Calo's on Clark the best, Can't remember last time I had deep-dish.
Well done opening w/Candlelite! Been going since I was a little kid and I’m now in my early 40’s and take our kids there. Even had some of their early bday parties there and they got their names on the marquis. :)
I’m from Chicago love thin crust pizza deep dish has too much dough, watching this is making me hungry 😂
Same here 💪🏽

Luis as a fellow Chicagoan I like thin crust pizza better than deep dish pizza ! Thanks for making this video !

Never had deep dish. And I was born in Chicago...so.Let me know how it compares to flat pizza?

🍕🍕🍕🍕🧀🫑🌶🍖☮️✌️🏙🌆🌇🌃 I got to try tavern style pizza 🍕. I have tried deep dish pizza 🍕 in Chicago.
Joey F. When did you come to Chicago?
Yes yes yes! I tell pizza that chicago style pizza is way better than NY style. Definitely not talking the deep dish
Father and Son Pizza is my jam.
hate to be the one to break it to ya, but they closed almost 4 years ago 😑

i’ve had it, it’s not the same
@@LuisGustoComedy I know, I just don't want to let go of my childhood pizza.
Bro, I went yesterday to the F&S in Northbrook, it's not the same. 😥
Milwaukee style pizza is similar than Chicago thin crust, my wife and I love the every thing but anchovy pizza, I don’t like anchovies on pizza, though I tolerate them on Caesar salads.
cheese popcorn is a very chicago thing
thin crust is the true chicago pizza. we rarely eat deep dish on a regular
Oh my thin crust, I do giardinara and sausage.
Giardiniera on pizza is so underrated.
Try a sausage, pepperoni, red onion, bacon, hot giardiniera Pizza, well DONE.

That Italian sausage thin pizza crust pizza would have gone over the top with mushrooms and anchovy! Yum! Yea Side Street!
Buy a pizza pan with holes and use olive oil on the pan and cook at 450 degrees. cook on the lowest rack in the oven for crispy pizza
Well done opening w/Candlelite! Been going since I was a little kid and I’m now in my early 40’s and take our kids there. Even had some of their early bday parties there and they got their names on the marquis. :)
Middle Brow is one of my favorite places. Haven't been there for Tavern Tuesday, but the pizza they normally have is amazing.
Wow. Found out I’m only 10 min from Candlelite and never been there. Can’t wait to try it!! Thanks!
Love your channel bro. You and your girl are adorable and the Chicago-centric content is top tier.
Dope videos bro. It's the best replacement for all the food docs I used to watch on TV back in the day. Keep it up 🤙
Starting to think y'all's favorite food is pizza 😊😂
Middlebrow is the greatest. Great beer and wines too!!!
St. Louis also cuts its thin-crust pizza into squares!
Most of the Midwest does except the chains.
