I like it too. It can sound like the SD-1 but it also has more options to vary the tone. It is one of those pedals that seems to get overlooked by many people.
So Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Demo and Playing. I have been checking out both these pedals and still cannot decide, Doh. I guess I better get both, lol. All the best. Cheers
As I mentioned in the shorter clip: I would love the Boss SD-1... IF it didnt take away so much low end when engaged and/or IF I just used it for solo boosting. But because I use it for rhythm playing as a sound enhancer, I can't have that low end disappear. The MXR takes care of that with that extra knob. So it's the winner for what I need. But the SD-1 still sounds good!
excellent comparison - but one assumption- that tone at noon is equal on both pedals - to my ear boss had more treble at the same setting - if you could adjust more treble on mxr it would be a clear win- as it stands mxr sounds fuller but also duller ?
Thanks for your comment. Yes, that is correct, both tones at 12 o'clock are not exactly the same. I don't try to match the controls on both pedals so they sound the same (even when they are very close like these). I just compare how both pedals sound with the controls set the same and let the listener hear that. Essentially the MXR M77 is a BOSS SD-1 with more tone shaping options.
Those pedals both use asymmetrical clipping diods which enhances even harmonics content in a signal & gives sound that warm tube like feel. SD-1 is cheaper but MXR has a bit more tone shaping tools
That's a great summary of the pedals. I think the MXR Modified O.D doesn't get the attention it deserves (particularly if you like the SD-1 sound). The extra tone shaping and 'BUMP' option gives a modern update to a classic pedal.
I would say the Custom Badass has more tone shaping options than the SD-1 while the overdrive sound is essentially the same for both. Then again you might feel the need to have a very yellow overdrive pedal 🙂
The Mxr sounds great to my ears

nice demo. this is how you do the comparison between pedals

Thanks for your kind comments. Get both just like me, they are great pedals 🙂

SD-1 is great! It's my fave here.
The SD-1 has been in production for over 40 years and it still sounds great 🙂
Excellent video-comparison. Thanks (I just suscribed)
Thank you very much 🙂

Perfect -appreciate your honest commentary .
I like the sound of MXR
It is a very good pedal. The SD-1 sound but with more options

and thats a great summary, never had an SD-1, but just got the MXR: seems quite versatile!@@octoplod
@@kimmolingonheimo I'm sure you will get some great tones from the MXR pedal 🙂
I love the MXR & should be far more talked about. It's what the SD-1w should have been!
Yes, it is surprising which pedals get overlooked while others are highly praised. The MXR Modified O.D deserves more love!
To me is very clear: BOSS rocks.
the same until the bump switch. mxr was more saturated sounding... don't think i'd need both. just the boss for me.
Yep, they are basically the same except that the MXR has the 'bump' and some extra tone shaping
I have a bassass OD. I guess there is no reason to get a super OD.

Sound the same.
Las perillas de Tono estaban malas...?
